Vegas agrees...the early lines are anywhere from Bama -6 to Bama -7.5.

well yeah....I guess they have a chance, but things will have to align perfectly for them to keep the game close even at home. Mallet will put up some points, but Bama is super deep and talented on both sides of the ball....I just don't see it being a nail biter for the Chrimson Tide. yep just a junior. Unfortunately, 80% of Auburn's starting offensive line graduates at the end of this season, so Newton will most likely need to scramble even more next year. He has the athletic ability to be very special...just have to wait and see.

I'm interested to see Newton's stock as an NFL prospect. He's not ready to go after this year as he still has stuff to work on, but he's huge, got a great frame and fantastic athletic ability. Depending on how his arm/decision making/etc translate to the NFL, he could go really next year. I'm not sure if he'll pan out as a pro or not...his decision making hasn't been horrible, but he really hasn't been great throwing the deep ball thus far. Even with his size, he won't be able to withstand the wear and tear carrying the ball 15+ times per game in the NFL will bring, so he still has a lot to prove.

Auburn was really disappointing in the first half against Clemson...they won't be able to forget to show up in the first half against South Carolina and still win. South Carolina has an excellent running defense, but I don't see how you can really defend against Cam Newton's scrambling ability. This game will matchup probably the best two true freshman running backs in the nation in Marcus Lattimore and Mike Dyer....should be a fun game to watch.

Auburn is a 6 point favorite over a Clemson team that is ranked 26th in the coaches poll. AU's secondary is a big problem in my eyes, and they'll have to improve to beat Clemson. Cam Newton is exciting to watch...for a 6-6 250# guy, he is extremely elusive, and he will run over defenders. he has shown that he can throw the short and mid length passes with precision, but he has not yet established the deep ball. I'll be in the New Orleans French Quarter for my bachelor party this weekend, and the plan is to watch college football in the Quarter all day and then move on to various forms of debauchery.

Agree...oddsmakers make it tough for even smart money to agree all of the time. Historically, the term was used only by those in the gambling world...it's evidently becoming more mainstream. I used the term because the line was moving contrary to what most people thought would happen (70% of those on covers.com were taking Auburn -2, yet the line kept creeping the other way until it was Auburn +1). This leads me to believe that sharps thought they saw something that favored MSU in the matchup and were betting heavily opposite of the squares....or i guess wealthy MSU homers could have altered the line...

sharps have put a ton of money on mississippi state today is my guess. Craig Stevens, arguably Auburn's best LB, won't play tonight and didn't play against Arkansas State....i'm not sure why the line has moved 4 points in MSU's direction just today. Is this going to be a thing now? Years ago I never heard anybody talk about "going chalk" on their brackets, and then every Tom Dick and Harry was using the phrase. I'd never heard the term "sharps" used before this football preseason and now I'm hearing it all the time. By the way, 2nd google option is SkinHeads Against Racial Prejudice. the term "sharps" isn't a super new thing. it has been around for at least a couple of years now. Professional gamblers, wiseguys are known as "sharps". Amateurs (those who aren't privy to the savvy point of view) are known as 'squares'. Vegas seems to lay out odds in such a way that squares will naturally pick the wrong side of a bet. when things seem too obvious, something probably is amiss.

MSU is gonna get crushed. Cam Newton is going to run all over them. oh, Cam Newton, Mario Fannin, and Mike Dyer will run all over MSU, but Auburn's defense scares me....they gave up 24 first half points to Arkansas State before settling a bit and only allowing 3 second half points.

I think Mississippi State is going to surprise some people this year. Auburn is only a 2.5 point favorite, because their defense is still very questionable. It should be a high scoring game tomorrow night.

I don't really mind a manager publicly alluding to a mistake a rookie makes. The fact that we aren't in a pennant race makes benching the kid for a game to hopefully impress upon him the importance of situational awareness more palatable. if we were in the middle of a pennant race, lessons be damned, you have to play your best player at a given position every game unless they really need rest. I think two games is probably excessive, but as others have mentioned, he has played more games this year than at any point of his career and could probably benefit from the rest. Personally, I don't have any bones to pick with this move.

If new ownership hired a different GM, i would put the chances at greater than zero. As things stand, I don't think Prior would be too interested in an offer made by the Cubs....unless it was the only offer.

I'm enjoying the recent articles that paint a picture of ricketts being a proponent of sabermetrics. However, his actions contradict this. Hendry is still supposedly going to be a part of the equation. Wouldn't it be more important to have a GM who is sabermetrically inclined since the GM makes the personnel decisions?

I don't think that necessarily means that Colvin is going to be the starting 1b next season....it can't hurt to have him take grounders there. Cubs really would be negotiating from a weak position in signing a free agent or via trade if they have absolutely no one in-house who can play the position.

bad move. he should still be in AA or AAA. seriously, what kind of question in that now? knowing what we know now, i don't think you'll find too many criticizing Hendry for calling up Castro.

He passed Bear on the W column some time ago....Bowden is out of coaching....I understand he loves coaching, but he isn't really coaching anymore. he's a mascot...or that is my perception anyway.

Again. Poops himself in public again. The media found it a bit humorous at first. Then everyone just got sad when he kept talking about it. i'm pretty sure that he's kind of a figurehead at this point... the coordinators must do all the work. an 83 year old man just cannot run a major college football team. so what is the obstacle preventing him for retiring? ego? not knowing what he'll do without a job? He was a great coach I guess, but no one wants to see him pass away on the job. He's beyond the point of retiring gracefully.

Dewitt definitely needs a platoon partner at second. I was going to ask who we could get that would be an upgrade over Baker, but after looking at splits, Baker has been really good against left handers again this year. He's just had too many ABs against right handers.
