  1. McGregor denies any involvement: Milton McGregor's attorney tells TMZ his client has "never had any contact – direct or indirect – with Cam Newton, Cecil Newton, Cam’s father; Kenny Rogers or anyone purporting to represent Cam Newton." He also says McGregor has never compensated student athletes at Auburn or any other school.
  2. There is nothing in the article that indicates McGregor paid or offerred to pay Newton...dislike Auburn all you'd like though. yeah, I'd love to hear Redflash's take on all this...
  3. Wouldn't it be more like the middle of the end? Many would view it that way. This is the first article that mentions an Auburn booster. The McGregor guy is a white collar thug...Auburn fans should be very nervous hearing his name, the FBI, and the Newton investigation in the same breathe.
  4. If Auburn is going down in flames, this is the beginning of the end. TMZ is reporting that the FBI now wants to speak with Milton McGregor about the Cam Newton investigation. Milton could be called an Auburn booster I guess as he has contributed money to the university previously. Milton owns a dog track and Victoryland, a psuedo-casino (casinos aren't legal in Alabama) that operated as a bingo machine type establishment. He was arrested last month for trying to buy votes in the legislature for pro-gambling legislation. If the FBI were already wiretapping Milton for the gambling investigation, and they overheard something about a potential payment to Newton, I would think this information would have already been released...so this sounds like a fishing expedition. don't know...but reading his name made me cringe. http://www.tmz.com/2010/11/17/cam-newton-fbi-investigation-probe-auburn-university-booster-milton-mcgregor-sec-football-ncaa/
  5. If you think AU is going to be 'screwed', then you must believe that evidence will surface that they paid for Newton's LOI. That's the scenario in which AU would be 'screwed', and there is no credible basis for that type of allegation right now. If AU didn't pay Cam for his LOI, then the worse case scenario (based upon what we know now) is a potential eligiblity issue in which Cam would retroactively be ruled ineligible based upon his father's dealings with MSU, not AU. Frankly, there doesn't seem to be an NCAA bylaw this is going to nail Cam for even this based upon information that is known currently. I can only deal with what we know...new information down the road could throw a wrench into my positive thinking.
  6. I was expecting to see Mack Brown or Urban Meyer. I believe ISU fans are making a somewhat organized effort to vote for Rhoads, because they really, really don't want Chizik to win. yep, Auburn is on the receiving end of a lot of negative emotion on the behalf of other programs' fans presently. Here is an article that provides some information on the FBI interviews that took place yesterday. None of the interviews took place in Auburn or with Auburn personnel, btw. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/fbi_ncaa_look_at_mississippi_s.html The article does state that Cecil Newton did not accompany his son on any of his recruiting trips to AU as he did for the Mississippi State recruiting trips. I haven't seen any reputable allegations that Auburn did pay Cam for his LOI, and this statement isn't evidence that a transaction didn't take place. However, I think it's a positive sign for AU fans.
  7. he could believe the Phillies managerial spot will reopen sooner than the Cubs at this point. Charlie Manuel isn't a young man and has had quite a few different health issues.
  8. You lost me here. That's actually the point of the article. I'm not asking you to believe what anyone on any website wrote. Take a look at the NCAA bylaws and try to find one that would create an eligibility issue for Cam based upon what has surfaced thus far. AU has hired a guy who served on the NCAA infractions committee for many years, btw, to help represent them.
  9. I just read an interesting article on bleacherreport.com in which NCAA laws are evaluated. http://bleacherreport.com/articles/516586-ncaa-regulations-reading-down-to-the-letters-for-the-newton-situation-clear AU has received a lot of negative press for playing Cam against Georiga, but the situation isn't as black and white as many believe. Based upon current allegations and information that has surfaced thus far, I think it's very possible, maybe even likely, that Cam's eligibility is never retroactively revoked. Of course, if during the investigation, it is found that AU did pay Cam or his father for his LOI, then AU will be punished severely. I think it's also possible that the NCAA makes some revisions to its by-laws after this investigation.
  10. Boise State jumps TCU in latest AP poll..
  11. Unless someone can prove (or MSU coaches are willing to testify) that Cam knew about his dad's shake down of MSU, then Cam will continue to play per my understanding. If at any point it is proven that Cam knew of his father's actions, then AU will sit Cam, and AU's wins will be vacated. Regarding future sanctions, unless it's proven that Auburn was involved in a pay for play situation, then they will not be buried. I'm not defending anyone or anything. I'm pretty sure these are the facts.
  12. Your post is misleading. AU was penalized for one late hit on UG's QB during the entire game. The play that pissed Georiga off and hurt their QB wasn't even called a late hit. Fairley could have been penalized on that play I guess, but he was falling and his helmit hit the QB's knee of shin on the way down. The officials thought it was incidental contact, but it definitely would have been called a late hit in the NFL. Regarding the ejections, Georgia's offensive line tried to retalliate against Fairley on the next play taking cheap shots while Fairley was on the ground. Backup DE, Michael Goggans then took a swing in Fairley's defense and was ejected. He will miss the first half of the Bama game. I didn't see what happened on the next play, but backup DT Mike Blac evidently also threw a punch and was ejected. He will also miss the first half of the Alabama game. Both are backups, but that will hurt AU's chances at beating Bama for sure. It's all a circus, the season is sullied, and I really don't give a damn about any of it anymore.
  13. That theory of events doesn't explain why Cam suddenly chose Auburn over his first choice, which was MS State. If that "the money was too much to pass up" statement was true, then obviously Cam knew. I don't know, this just sounds like Cecil trying to deflect attention away from Cam and onto himself. If a Cam really did tell an MSU coach that "the money was too much to pass up", then I agree that it sounds like Cecil is just trying to shield him...however MSU coaches may not be willing to go on the record with this information even even if Cam called them saying this. (how stupid would Cam have been to actually say this to an MSU coach, btw?)
  14. ...not sure if this is reliable or not, but Cam's father admits to having conversations with ex-MSU player about potential under the table payments...? http://www.wsbtv.com/sports/25778803/detail.html The article says Cecil maintains that no money ever exchanged hands, Cam nor Cam's mother knew anything about Cecil's discussions with MSU, and no discussions involving money ever took place with Auburn University. again...no clue if this is reliable. edit - if Cecil discussed this with Rogers only and not someone officially associated with MSU, then there may not be a violation....however, if Roger's assertion is true that Cecil discussed money at the Hilton Garden Inn in Starkville in November '09 with MSU coaches, then Cam is done. I think it comes down to whether MSU coaches will confirm they had this discussion with Cecil. I think what may make this sticky is that MSU continued to recruit Cam after the supposed November '09 discussion, and they waited until January to make a report to the SEC. Per my understanding, they also didn't mention this meeting at the Hilton Garden Inn in their initial report. If they withheld information initially, they may have also committed a violation.
  15. I haven't seen that the NCAA made contact with Auburn today reported anywhere else yet...but I did just read that Cam was on the team bus to the team's hotel in Montgomery http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/auburns_cam_newton_on_team_bus.html
  16. the reason i have read is "to find out if young men are being shopped to colleges."...seems strange to me as well. I'd prefer they worry more about national security and such.
  17. ....or maybe there will still be a press conference this afternoon. there have been so many twists and turns....i have no idea.
  18. Bond and Rogers are supposed to be interviewed by the FBI next Tuesday per one of the articles I read and will turn over supporting evidence to them at that time. If they have evidence that is truly damning to Cam, then I imagine he'll be ruled ineligible soon after that.
  19. If Cam becomes ineligible prior to the NCG, then Auburn should have to vacate all of the wins for this season....so they wouldn't be playing in the NCG anyway. that said, i doubt TCU jumps AU if AU beats Georgia tomorrow.
  20. yeah, i posted a non-espn version of that article earlier. Bell is just another booster, and i guess he is the go-to guy when recruits ask MSU alumni for cash. I don't think Bell's statements would be all that damning to Cam or AU unless he has a recording of Cecil directly asking him for money. If MSU's coaches at some point confirm Cecil directly asked them about money, then maybe that would be enough though...??
  21. Seen several people talking about it on Rivals, saw it on a twitter of a writer that covers the SEC, and also had a professor friend of mine at Auburn text me saying it was all over campus right now. So nothing official yet. One of the Auburn beat writers just published an article a few minutes ago indicating Cam is still on track to start tomorrow, so I'm thinking the whole press conference thing is just another rumor. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/quarterback_cam_newton_still_o.html I believe the rumor started, because the Auburn athletic dept. issued a 'no comment' today regarding Newton's status for the game tomorrow. Some took it to mean that his status was about to change i guess.
  22. IU's record this season probably wouldn't be seen as a negative for 2012 guys...no idea if IU has a shot at Harris though.
  23. If MSU coaches are willing to, on the record, testify that Cecil Newton tried to shake them down, then I'm assuming a recording of Cecil himself speaking, concrete evidence wouldn't be needed for Cam to lose his eligibility. ....where are you hearing something about a press conference? ....haven't heard that yet.
  24. Per my understanding, the only recording may be of Kenny Rogers calling another Mississippi State alumni saying he is with Cecil Newton, and Cecil is wanting to know if the 'there is going to be a deal.' You can't really prove you're with someone and are calling on behalf of someone with a voicemail. http://www.al.com/sports/index.ssf/2010/11/kenny_rogers_says_cam_newtons.html Auburn hasn't been directly implicated in any of this. I guess the worst case scenario related to what is on the table so far is that real evidence of Cecil shaking down MSU does surface, Cam is ruled ineligible, Auburn has to vacate wins associated with the 2010 season, Barrett Trotter becomes AU's qb, and things return to 'normal' next season. I'm not even sure we'll have to cross that bridge. Cam is playing football tomorrow against Georgia. edit - i guess the FBI is interviewing Bond and Rogers next Tuesday, so I would expect that we'll know more about Cam's future eligibility soon after that.
  25. They are probably just outside the top 10. But they played in and won a ton of huge games in the Tuberville era. ESPN's rankings from a couple years ago put them 21st. 7th of current SEC teams Just looked at the list and I don't really think 16-20 compare to Auburn when it comes to recent success and recruiting buzz. I don't think Auburn measures up against Iowa, West Virginia, Va Tech, Oregon, or Boise if that's how you're going to judge it, but all of them are below Auburn. I don't see how winning 7-8 games a year the past 15 years and having "recruiting buzz"(??) makes one a Cadillac program I'm not going to do the legwork to research whether Auburn should have "Cadillac program" designation, but the source of this tangential argument was whether Auburn receiving the 4th best recruiting class is alarming enough to raise a red flag. Alone, I don't think it is. Coupled with the media reports of this past week, I can see how some people are going down that road. I'll have to disagree unless proof surfaces.
