Maybe they're just more obvious about it? ....yeah, they probably wouldn't know how to cover their tracks because people who live in alabama are dumb. ;) the NCAA hasn't made any allegations against Auburn. This Kenny Rogers guy has a checkered past, is a Mississippi State alumni, and the story is centered around him contacting a fellow Mississippi State alum. If Auburn were going to pay Cam to sign a LOI, would they choose to do business with a guy who is already being investigated by the NFLPA? Auburn didn't know in 2009 that Cam Newton would be this good. They didn't know in spring practice, and they really didn't know until after the third or so game of this season what kind of player Cam would become. Would they risk their program for a guy who had so many question marks?

i'd be embarrassed and very unhappy about it if AU did anything wrong. I understand the SEC hatred is thick on this board...but let's see how this unfolds.

the rumor is, thus far, that an ex-Mississippi State player was contacted by a former teammate who indicated he was representing Cam Newton's camp and it would take 180k for Cam to attend Mississippi State. It sounds like the NCAA maybe has known about this for a a little while, but Cam is still playing, so I'm not sure what to think about it. Evidently Cecil Newton handed over financial documents to support his claim that he and his son had no involvement. from a USA Today article: If the NCAA finds that someone associated with Auburn payed for him to play at AU, I'll be pissed...that's for certain.

Is UT's OL going to be significantly better next season? If so, I understand your concern...If not, then why not go ahead and get Bray accustomed to dodging defensive linemen? I also would think UT would get a bowl bid of some sort based upon the revenue your fanbase would generate.

If Iowa's O line gives Stanzi time to throw, he would definitely shred the AU secondary...it would be an exciting game to watch, imo.

Newton would wear the Iowa linebackers like a hat as he scored 5 TDs, like he does to every other team in the country. This is assuming our D-line isn't in the backfield on every play. Spoiler alert: They will be The only line he's played that is at or near our caliber is LSU. And barring a miracle run or two, that game goes the other way. And that's with their pathetic offense. The Auburn offensive line is one of the best in the country, and Newton doesn't take too many sacks when he does pass the ball. Iowa has a great team this season, but I'd be willing to bet they wouldn't shut down the Auburn O. I think Auburn rushed for like 400 yards against LSU, btw.

Yeah, Iowa matches up well against AU...they would definitely be able to score a large number of points on the AU defense. Even with Iowa having a strong D, the AU offensive line, WRs, and RBs make the Auburn O quite versatile. Newton is a very accurate whem making short and intermediate length passes...he just hasn't shown the ability to consistently throw the deep ball. How is the Iowa offensive line at pass blocking? Auburn is pretty good at getting to the QB. They're also good against the run. I think it would probably be a closely contested, relatively high scoring game.

I had given up on IU obtaining front-court talent until a post-Crean era. This is exciting.

Yeah, I already looked at those rankings this morning. I'm pretty confident that Auburn's offense wasn't the same animal at the beginning of the season that it is today. Newton has gained a lot of confidence, the offensive line has started playing to their potential, and Malzahn has seemingly been able to successfully modify game plans as he has seen what different defenses show him. I'm the first one in line to criticize Auburn's horrible secondary....their punter is a liability, and their field goal kicker's range (not accuracy) is questionable at times, although he did kick a 48 yard fg against ole miss. QB, RB, OL, TE, WR, DL, and LB are all strengths, imo. Regarding SoS, Auburn has already beaten 4 top 20 teams (per BCS rankings), and they will play for the NC if they win the remainder of their games. They are in control of whether they get to play in Glendale. Any team that has an above average throwing QB and whose defense can hold Auburn to 35 points has a very good shot at beating AU....Does that mean they are around the 15th best team in the nation moving forward? I'd rank them higher...Sagarin knows more about college football than I do though.

So if Bama wins 4 more games against ranked opponents (LSU, Mississippi State, Auburn, and whomever they would play in the SEC championship game), should they jump Boise State and play in the national championship? I'm hoping Auburn doesn't allow that to happen...but just want to see what the opinions are on this forum.

Auburn will be able to rest starters this weekend as they play their homecoming game against UT-Chattanooga. That should help them prepare for a much improved Georgia team the following weekend. They then have a bye week before playing Alabama in Tuscaloosa. Oregon gets my vote for the #1 team in the country right now....I'm excited to see how all of this unfolds.

Any team with an above average passing QB, talented WRs, and a solid offensive line has a legitimate shot at beating Auburn. I'm pretty sure both Oregon and Boise State would score 50+ points on AU. edit - Masoli is going to cause some problems for AU...vegas has the line set at 7 points.

There probably isn't a defense out there that will be able to stop auburn's offense this year. However, Auburn's secondary is still a joke. Lsu just didn't have a qb who could take advantage. Looking ahead a bit, bama matches up well with au...strong defense and reasonably good throwing qb is what it will take to beat auburn...obviously au needs newton to remain healthy...dt nick fairley's health is almost as important.

ok, i thought about this, and I'm willing to admit that 'my head about to explode' reply to bukie was over the top. I haven't watched enough pac-10 football this season to comment one way or the other about them being the best conference this year.

Take my word for it...you are not impartial. The closer a conference is located to Alabama, the more highly they rate for you. Tim, your assertion that I rank football teams based upon geographic proximity to my home pisses me off a little, certainly the way you phrased it. Admittedly, the pac-10 has been better than I expected...i thought they would probably be the third or fourth best conference coming into the season.

Miles has been extremely lucky but look at the stats behind the LSU-Florida game. LSU is becoming a good team. They have one of the best defenses, if the not the best, in the country. They are a legitimate QB away from being a championship contending team. They should bench Jefferson and go with Lee for the remainder of the year....although Lee clearly isn't the answer.

so we are certain that Clemson is abysmal this year, because they've lost to three top 30 teams in consecutive weeks? They aren't good, but I don't believe Cal would blow them out....it's probably too early to tell how the conferences will stack up, and I do try to remain impartial when evaluating these type things. I still think the SEC has the most talent this year. Maybe I'm just a homer...

Cal has played a much tougher schedule, and has absolutely blown out teams in every win. If you notice, the BCS version of the formula that doesn't take margin of victory into account has Auburn ahead. Margin has much higher predictive value for the future, though. The Pac-10 is very likely the best BCS conference this year, with Oregon, Stanford, Cal, Arizona, Oregon State, UCLA and Arizona State all looking good early. Heck, even Washington has played a tough schedule and beat USC. Just the fact that it's a possibility USC is the 9th best team in the Pac-10 this year reflects on how good the conference is top to (near) bottom. Bukie, my head is about to explode. I think it's debatable whether Cal has played a more difficult schedule than Auburn thus far, and Cal has lost two games. Regarding the Pac-10 being the best BSC conference this year, I disagree and will speak to this during bowl season :wink:

What is with the Pac-10 love? 2-loss Cal 8 spots in front of Auburn?! I was going to post something about Auburn being ranked so low in the sagarin ratings, but it's just a matter of time before they lose a game. They have a championship caliber offense, but their defense is horrible. They will lose to at least one of Arkansas, LSU, or Alabama. Even if they win all three of those games which they won't because of their secondary, then they would still have beat South Carolina again in the SEC championship game.

Auburn travels to Kentucky this week. I don't believe Kentucky will be able to run the ball as well as they did last year against the AU D-line, but Hartwell could have a good day passing as Auburn's secondary is still abysmal from what I've seen. Even so, I don't see Kentucky being able to stop the Auburn offense (running or passing game), and I think Auburn wins by 10 or more points.

I'd like to see Auburn get Barrett Trotter some playing time at QB this week against UL Monroe...As much as Cam Newton gets hit, Trotter could use some more experience.

The real debate is whether an undefeated Boise St. team plays in the national championship over a 1 loss BCS conference school though, right?

Garcia did get hit in the head pretty hard in the second half, but he played a series after that hit...the commentators didn't mention any injury being the reason for Spurrier choosing Conner Shaw for those last two drives. I'm glad Shaw was on the field though. Cameron Newton is a beast and carried Auburn on his shoulders tonight. His receivers dropped too many balls tonight, Auburn's defensive secondary is inadequate, but they still get the win. Auburn's offensive line is pretty strong, and Mike Dyer and Onterio McCaleb both ran the ball well in the second half. If their receivers can catch the ball, the offense is very good.
