  1. Usually, it seems like Verne is multitasking when he's commentating..
  2. Les has made a lot of game management mistakes the last few years, and I think he has lost some of the prestige, respect he commanded after LSU's last national championship. I don't think Michigan will offer him the job.
  3. anyone watch the Under Armor High School All Star game last night? Clowney is a beast.
  4. entertaining game last night....tosu put a lot of pressure on Mallett, and wow...his receivers really let him down.
  5. why not just spike it with the one second left to stop the clock? you don't really gain an advantage with the penalty. exactly. it was third down, not fourth.....all north carolina had to do was spike it.
  6. I initially heard that Maryland was willing to pay 3.5 million as well. However, the consultant that Maryland has hired to perform the coaching search has shot that rumor down. He says the pay will likely be closer to 2 million. http://weblogs.baltimoresun.com/sports/college/maryland_terps/blog/2010/12/maryland_consultant_says_report_of_35_million_package_is_qui.html
  7. agree...per the NCAA's statement, the bylaws will likely be modified in the near future.
  8. The NCAA issued a statement regarding the criticism they have received for the OSU and Cam Newton decisions: http://www.ncaa.org/wps/wcm/connect/public/ncaa/resources/latest+news/2010+news+stories/december/ncaa+statement+on+fairness+of+rules+decisions
  9. I'd almost rather AU keep Malzahn as their head coach and buy out Chizik. As others have mentioned though, Malzahn isn't a proven commodity as a head coach, CEO type. Chizik has proven he can hire quality assistants, and this an important piece of the puzzle. Chiz is also a very quality defensive mind. If Malzahn were to leave, Curtis Luper (AU's current RB coach) could potentially be promoted to OC and continue to run Malzahn's system at AU. If I had to guess, I'd say Maryland chooses Leach though.
  10. Maryland is evidently interviewing Malzahn....If Gus is offered the job, I think he has to take this one (after coaching the national championship game). Hopefully, Maryland chooses Leach.
  11. the pac 10 is ranked first in the sagarin ratings. and i love that beating teams like mississippi state, clemson and georgia are now great wins. USC and Mississippi State are 22 and 25 respectively in the Sagarin rankings....but overall, I agree with you. CBN probably sells the Pac-10 short in their analysis.
  12. sure thing. for now there is only a mountain of convincing facts you may be convinced, but it's not because of facts that prove AU was involved. FACT: Newton's dad was asking for money for his son to attend Miss St FACT: Miss St booster/donor offered $180,000 for Cam to play FACT: Cam's dad told Cam to choose Auburn instead QUESTION: What incentive did the dad see at Auburn that trumped the $180,000 he was offered at Miss St? Mississippi State didn't offer 180k. If that was a fact, the NCAA would have already imposed sanctions on them. They rejected Cecil Newton's request for 180k. I'll again mention that Cecil would have increased his exposure with each and every school he solicited. Did Cecil solicit Oklahoma? Stoops says no. Oklahoma also was a player late in Cam's recruitment. To answer your question, there are several incentives not related to money that Cam would have realized by attending AU over MSU. Auburn had a seasoned offensive line that is considered by many to be the best in the nation. They have an offensive coordinator that is considered by many to be the best in the nation. They have a corp of recievers that are more talented than the receiverse at MSU. They have 3 talented RBs. Auburn is considerably closer to Cam's hometown, Cam's family, than Starkville. Look, I understand why people believe what they believe, but get the facts straight, and don't reference facts that don't presently exist. That's all I ask. I'll remain silent on this issue henceforth as that seems to be what most of the mods wish.
  13. sure thing. for now there is only a mountain of convincing facts you may be convinced, but it's not because of facts that prove AU was involved. people are going to make fun of Auburn for this. You can either try to ignore it or play a losing game of whack-a-mole. your call. I mostly ignore it at this stage, I'm aware that most share Derwood's belief, and I absolutely understand why people believe this. However, If someone is going to reference facts that aren't there right now, then I'm going to call them out on it. Given the nature of this board, I would think that would be considered acceptable behavior. Since you are 'in the know', what specifically are we waiting on, Old Style?

  15. let me know when Auburn is formally accused of something, guys.
  16. I'm not sure. If damning evidence against AU were to surface in the next couple of months, it would impact the 2011 recruiting class. I'm pretty sure Malzahn will need two players from this 2011 class to contribute on the offensive line to have a decent offense next year. There is also an incoming QB that has committed that could potentially battle Barrett Trotter for the QB position when Cam leaves. Everyone has been saying that Malzahn's stock is as high as it will ever be right now. For it to remain high, he will need for AU to field a respectable offense next year. He can't have the 2011 recruiting class falling apart, players transferring, etc. Admittedly, there is probably some wishful thinking involved in my finding a relationship between Gus extending his contract with AU and AU's prognosis with respect to sanctions.
  17. yeah, he's holding out for a better job. If he doesn't get the head coaching offer he wants this offseason, then Auburn will be willing to give him 1.3-1.5 million/season to remain the offensive coordinator. I'd prefer Malzahn over Chizik as AU's head coach. He's staying at Auburn. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5915527&campaign=rss&source=ESPNUHeadlines yeah, i'm hearing Auburn will pay him 1.3 million a year, and he will sign an extension. If true, this would probably just delay his move to head coaching by one year. However, this doesn't sound like a move an intelligent guy would make if he thought new evidence was going to surface that would lead to Auburn being penalized in some fashion. Is he thinking Cam Newton is going to stay? I could understand it with the potential NFL lockout, but still I thought all signs pointed towards to leaving being a mid 1st round pick. I have no idea....I'd be surprised if Cam stays. Without Cam, Auburn isn't going to be a national champtionship contender next year. However, they do have some young talent that could potentially help replace the seniors that will be departing on their offensive line. Greg Robinson, the #30 overall prospect for 2011 per Rivals (one of the top offensive tackles), just committed to AU and Jacob Fahrenkrug , the top JUCO OL, may choose Auburn this week per rumblings I've heard.

  20. Gus had not signed a contract with Vandy as of late last night...it does appear this is what Gus will do though. It's difficult to turn down 3 million a year even if it is career suicide. There are only a few Vandy head coaches that were still a head coach in their next job after leaving Vandy. Auburn was prepared to make him the highest paid coordinator in the country, but that doesn't compare to what Vanderbilt has offered.
  21. I didn't anticipate Vandy offering that much cash....Even so, Malzahn may wait for an offer from a school with a better football program.
  22. Chris Fowler interviewed Cam Netwon today. He didn't ask every probing question that he could have, but it he wasn't lobbing all softballs. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=5903485
  23. Nick Fairley wins the Lombardi award. He really wasn't on anyone's radar coming into the season after being injured last year and has turned himself into a top 15 draft pick. he could potentially sneak into the top 5 if he's drafted by the Bills.
  24. This scenario makes sense to me as well.
