Thanks for the link, Vance. The HOF game is an exhibition, and I suspect you'll see all minor-league pitchers in there. The regular position players might play one inning. Nobody's happy about it, but they got no choice.
He's not. Lou says it's a function of how he swings. Like Pie and Murton, he doesn't shift his weight. He twists himself at the plate and is not going forward. But Lou says you can't mess with it as long as he's hitting.
They're due when the umpires meet at home plate. thanks, didnt know that. i assumed it was earlier, since you always get them to us early. Teams usually post them early so players can prepare for what they're going to do. The batting-practice hitting groups also are determined by who's in and who's out. The pitchers hit first, followed by the extra men and then the regulars. If somebody is hurting and is questionable, the manager might wait until after BP to issue a lineup.
Do you mean remains a reliever or starts in the minors? I fixed it to say remain a reliever or go to the starting rotation. Good edit on your part. I was trying to do too many things. Finally made it to Dodger Stadium a few minutes ago. Thanks. I think Wilken views him more as a starter. I'll be at all 4 games this weekend. :) I like San Diego better than L.A. but I absolutely love Dodger Stadium.

we have to stumble if you don't pimp the site here first. I'll add it to my list of daily things to do, right after checking woot.com and FJM I appreciate being third on that esteemed list. I see FJM has had some fun with the Trib lately.
Well, don't just "stumble" on to our new baseball blog. Make it a point to go to it! We have a new blog at the Daily Herald, covering both the Cubs and White Sox. I try to post almost every day. I'll throw out all kinds of topics, some and some not. Today, I did a mini book review. I talked hockey with Dempster last week. We'll get into some stats stuff, too. Check 'em out. Leave comments. Go back often. See you there and right here at NSBB.
I just think he feels that the whole world thinks they never paid attention to it in the past. I know, I know, the evidence suggests they didn't, and I've told him that. Things started to change, though in a serious way during the organization meetings in the fall of '06 (wow, after Dusty was gone!), when they really started to acknowledge the importance of OBP.
Thanks for the link. I tried to be fair. Jim was a bit touchy about the whole OBP and stats thing, but at least they're moving in the right direction on it. Yes, there's a lot there that I'm sure is debatable, but that's part of the fun of following sports. Now that the Cubs are fully using their resources, that may make a big difference. Of course, it's always HOW you spend the money. As was the case with the Theriot story I did the other day, I put some tough questions to both, and they were gracious enough to answer.
