  1. no...he needs a day off and duke is a lefty Why does he need a day off? He just had one yesterday. And Dome hits lefties just fine anyways. Bruce? It's part of Lou's roster management, which I think is good, of giving a guy one game off but two days off. He did the same with Soriano Wednesday.
  2. Cubs Soriano, LF Theriot, SS Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Soto, C Cedeno, 2B DeRosa, RF Johnson, CF Zambrano, P Pirates Sanchez, 2B McLouth, CF Bay, LF LaRoche, 1B Nady, RF Mientkiewicz, 3B Paulino, C Gomez, SS Duke, P
  3. Cubs Theriot, SS Fukudome, RF Lee, 1B Ramirez, 3B Hoffpauir, LF Soto, C Edmonds, CF DeRosa, 2B Gallagher, P Astros Bourn, CF Matsui, 2B Tejada, SS Berkman, 1B Lee, LF Blum, 3B Pence, RF Towles, C Chacon, P
  4. I don't think Theriot is worried about stats per se. As he told me, he's worried about trying to get on base more and contribute to the team winning. He seems to recognize and understand his limitations. It'll be up to the manager to know when to give Theriot the proper time off and to recognize when and if those limitations begin to cut into the player's effectiveness.
  5. Sorry for my ignorance, but are you saying something like "not you, Bruce," here? Or are you just asking his take? I think its "and you" Well I know what it means in French, I was just wondering what he meant by it It's parodying a famous line from Julius Caesar, "Et tu, Brute?", meaning "You too, Brutus?", just prior to being stabbed in the back by someone he considered a friend. I used it because Bruce mentioned Theriot was gritting his way into being good. And to try to be funny and stuff. Which apparently failed miserably, as people either didn't get the reference or thought I was serious. The original line was well played by bukie. Clever, too. My faith in stats is unshakable. But I also believe guys like Theriot, if they recognize things about their game that need improving and work to improve them, can do so and defy the projections. It's a fun discussion. People who dismiss the stats say it's a "human" game. Of course it is. And the stats measure and project what real humans do. I've talked to Ryan a lot about this stuff, starting in spring training. He recognizes that he and I need to be talking about a high OBP and OPS in September for him to have achieved what he set out to achieve. Very cool. And what do you think about him getting consistent playing time over Cedeno? At this point, I see no problem with it. IIRC, Fontenot's numbers projected pretty well, and there was little clamor for him. If the numbers indeed go down for Theriot, then Cedeno should be the one getting more time.

  7. Irony, folks. And a little bit of fun.
  8. 90% cheers. And some fans were standing and cheering.
  9. No, because Bruce is wrong. I could well be wrong. I've had to talk myself into living with it (like I have another choice). If it doesn't work, they'll just get rid of him.
  10. Thanks Bruce. How do you feel about this Edmonds move? It's a low-risk move. Worth a try although I said in my blog I'd take a pass if it were me. They're going to assign Dave Keller full time to Pie in Iowa. Let's just see what happens. Thanks. What's Keller going to focus on with Pie? I'll take a stab at this one: Hitting. Yeah....that's it! Seriously, I'd love to know what aspects they are going to work on. They want him to continue working on his weight shifting, moving forward instead of planting the front foot. They also want him to adjust better on breaking pitches. I'm not sure how they'll work on the second part, but we'll see.

  14. Theriot on base four times tonight so far. Bout time to cut him a break, isn't it? (By the way, talked to Vance before the game. He's got some nice seats, a couple rows back just off the plate.)
  15. I'm hearing he'd LOVE to come here and maybe try to stick it to the Cardinals.
  16. See, that chemistry stuff does come in handy once in awhile. But my guess is they'll take a chance on him.
  17. Yes, it's a plug for our new Daily Herald blog. But here is what I have heard: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/77

  19. Don't believe everything you read. The Cubs sent Marshall down and activated Eyre today. They haven't "talked up" Torres once to us this season.
