  1. I read about this on Twitter last night. Sad news. Fred was one of the nicest people I met online. He was always supportive of my work, and I enjoyed his posts.
  2. Seeing as how all those quotes came from my Twitter, you should follow me there, @BruceMiles2112. They're all there. :) Hehe, I do Bruce. Can't link from my cell though. [expletive], should have mentioned they came from your feed though, my bad.......Did McLeod appear to think Vogelbach MAY eventually switch positions? On Vogelbach, they seemed pretty adamant that he is not an outfielder.
  3. The Cubs and Cougars really put on a nice event, by the way.

  5. Some time ago, I put on the blog that Alcantara was done for the year.
  6. Toons pretty much sums it up as he usually does. I haven't had a whole lot of time to look at this but the Cubs aren't worried about losing Flaherty. Talking to one person, it was pointed out that utility guys who can't play shortstop usually don't stick with big league clubs taking them in the Rule 5. I remember last year people getting all worried about the Cubs losing Marquez Smith in the Rule 5. He wasn't taken. On Rhee, the Cubs apparently don't feel he can help them immediately, so they didn't want to give him a 40-man spot. They would have liked to see him pitch more innings since the surgery, but that is what it is. Bottom line is they could lose him, but they also lost Andy Sisco and Donnie Veal. I don't remember anyone being particularly worried about losing Marquez, but I remember thinking someone would take him. As for Rhee, yeah I don't think he's ready to help immediately, but he has a high enough ceiling that I'd prefer not risk losing him. Of the 3 guys they added to the roster, the only one who might be able to help immeidately is Beliveau so I don't think that's what it was about. Lake, Szczur, and Vitters are higher up on the prospect latter, but Rhee's surely top 15 and could be higher if he build on his 2011 2nd half. And with Szczur, they were forced to add him after they re-did his contract and signed him toa new one so that he would forgo football.

  8. Bruce, have you heard anything about RHP Marcus Hatley also going to the AFL? Not yet. Also, Pin-Chieh Chen and Yao-Lin Wang have left Boise for Taiwan and the national team.
  9. From Mesa to Boise: Baez Zych Pugliese Jensen
  10. While you're here, is their any indication that anyone will be moved by the waiver deadline? In addition to Pena and Johnson, Grabow and DeWitt are both quite expendable. Will anyone want them? That's another question. There does not appear to be any deals imminent.
  11. Doubtful Brett Jackson comes up. Remember, too, the Cubs have to add Cashner to the 40-man when he comes off the DL, and they also must add LaHair, whom they've indicated will come up.
  12. Seen that photo someplace. :D
  13. Figure on Nick Struck starting for Iowa on Tuesday.
  14. Wasnt the collision in his last start? Might have been. I couldn't see the games. You might be right, though. He could have taken the mound last night with some aftereffects and then said he couldn't go any longer.
  15. Whitenack will have Tommy John surgery next Tuesday. They brought him to Chicago for an MRI and got the news last night. McNutt was involved in a collision last night. Not sure of the nature of the injury but he tried to pitch through it before coming out of the game.
  16. Strained right elbow. Cubs don't feel it's serious enough to bring him to Chicago to see the docs here.
  17. He will be promoted to Iowa and will pitch Sunday.
  18. New "Farm and Fleita" blog up at dailyherald.com: http://blogs.dailyherald.com/node/5774
  19. Nope. Fleita said today he takes the guns out of the park when Simpson pitches. Doesn't want him worrying about it.
  20. Oh, please. Been busy on my own blog at dailyherald.com, but I still read with interest the goings-on here.
  21. McNutt has indeed been on a pitch count as they ease him back into action after the blister problem. I asked about this after his previous start.
  22. Maybe it was bad wording on my part. Yes, Fleita will fill the vacancy, but he'll do so by hiring someone, not by taking the job himself. Bottom line: Oneri will not be Iowa's next manager. Sorry if I caused any confusion in the story.
  23. No, I like Will. Don't always agree with him, but I've known him for a long time and have gotten on well with him.
  24. What do you see as most likely, Bruce? I'd say Quade is the front-runner at this point, but I don't see an imminent announcement.
  25. Hate to disagree with my old friend Will, but I don't see this scenario happening.
