  1. i just had an incredible dream. In it, the new interim CEO came up onto the podium at this press conference unannounced interrupting the proceedings and pulled Hendry aside. The two argued for 30 seconds ago, and Hendry left in a hissy fit. The CEO then came back to the podium to announce that "HENDRY IS GONE MOFO's, IT's ALL GEWD". He then announced that the cubs are a bunch of "little bitches that needed to hug it out". I woke up extremely excited, but then i realized "oh, wait.."
  2. The bears are looking like they could go undefeated. They are certainly the most balanced team in football.

    Murton

Thats way too high of a price to pay for a 18 million salary dump. I'd be willing to bet the Yankees/Angels would be willing to match that, or come close to it.
  4. I think we are not as bad off on pitching as some might think, but we need a dependable innings eater who can keep us in ball games for sure. With Hill looking like Zito, Zambrano being Zambrano, one of Marshall, Mateo, and Guzman being good enough to be a back of the rotation starter, and Prior possibly healthy for 07, someone like Padilla would be enough to satisfy me if we spent alot on offense.
  5. I don't know to much about Francona, but I have heard from my Red Sox fan friends that he does value OBP quite a bit, and he is pretty good and developing young talent, as well as keeping players healthy.
  6. Wieters, Price or Brackman are looking pretty great right now.

    Murton

I think the Braves would have to jump on a Murton and Marshall for Hudson and Jones type deal. They'd be cutting over 18 mil this year, and 13 mil in 08 and 09. I think that would make Hendry more willing to part with Pierre, since Andruw was a serious MVP canidate last year, and had a pretty good season this year. It would also allow us to go after another big bat like Lee to put in LF.
  8. Zambrano and Murton would get him, but I would be worried about that deal afterwards.

    Murton

As long as he's traded smartly for a real upgrade, he can do whatever he wants wherever he wants. I like the guy and he's been pretty good, but there seems to be quite a few people who are on the verge of declaring him "untradeable." I agree. . . . all depends on what we could get for him. If you were a GM what would you give for someone like Murton? I think he could be the centerpiece to a Andruw Jones and Tim Hudson deal.

    Murton

He might be the best pure hitter on the team, but his home-away splits scare the crap out of me. What is the final verdict on him, and what do you think we can expect from him next year. Should we explore trading him?
  11. a-HA! Thank god i didn't listen to most of you/
  12. I think that this is the absolute worst thing that could have happened to the Cubs to begin the offseason. What's even scarier is that even if Hendry does end up resigning him, it might not be immediately after the season, shifting his focus for a period of time on him leaving other FA's to get picked. Here's an optomistic-realistic look at how the offseason could unfold to calm my nerves: 1) Baker not resigned 2) Ramirez, and Wood resigned 3) Dempster and Ryan Malone (2B Prospect, Peoria) traded for Emil Brown 4) Pie, Marshall, and Marmol for Andruw Jones, and Tim Hudson 5) Soriano, and Zito signed Theriot Murton Lee Ramirez A. Jones J. Jones/Brown Barrett Izturis Zambrano Zito Hill Hudson Prior
  13. I like this alot. the fact that hendry might want to platoon jones even after he had a semi-career year makes me happy.
  14. that is an absolute killer loss for them. I still think they could win the pennant though because of the level of competition
  15. That lineup just makes me want to hit every single yankees fan in the face with a fish.
  16. Well, that depends. If the Bears come out and dominate like I'm predicting they will, it wont matter if gale sayers was supposed to be starting at HB. I have da bears holding seattle to 2 TD's or less and winning by 20
  17. Honestly, I wish murton could play 2B. His bat is perfect for the position, and would be one of the best in the league. At the corner OF spot though hes just above average.
  18. my favorite football joke. classic :)
  19. That and the fact that if the Cubs won the world series, the profits would be exponentially bigger than any other team in baseball.
  20. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/chi-0609100048sep10,1,1956873.column?coll=chi-sportsnew-hed Digging around I found this article from Phil Rogers about a week ago. The HS class may be better and it is certainly deeper, but as of right now the top three players in the draft have to be college guys, IMO. My top 10 would be something like: 1. Price 2. Brackman 3. Wieters 4. Harvey* 5. Main* 6. Beavan* 7. Jackson* 8. Burgess* 9. Arencibia 10. Schmidt Dont take them too seriously, but stars are HS. With the addition of any one of those 3, the cubs farm system might have a few bonafied bluechip prospects in the making in Pawelek, Veal, and our 2007 draftee. Certainly will elevate us up in the BA ranks. By the time BA ranks the Cubs 07 draftee as part of their system, if Veal is a blue chipper, he should have graduated to the big leagues. It is possible to Veal to play at bluechip status from here on out and only reach the big club in late 2009. He just turned 22 a few days ago.
  21. have the last 2 years not indicative enough for ya?

  23. to me it goes like this The earliest he could have possibly started using was mid to late 2000. That year he had a .688 the highest of his career to that point, and had a .730+ SLG after the all star break in 00'. From 2000-2004 He used on and off (unknowingly or knowingly i won't get into). After his injuries and the Balco Investigations, he was off them completely, he hasn't used since. Barry Bonds is one of the most if not the most patient hitters of all time, whether or not you think the steroids inflated his power numbers dramatically, he deserves recognition based on that fact alone. 232 walks (.609 OBP) in one season. That's insane. Before he was "using", based on how he would have fared in his roid years, he would have still made enough of an impact to be considered for the hall. I'd place him at about 450-550 HR's. i guess we will never no though.
  24. a-HA! Take that history.
  25. best answer I've heard so far.
