  1. How about a 30 million dollar bid with a 4/30 contract with a player option for the 5th year? works for me as well. Question is, how much is boras going to want to string out of the winner.
  2. How does a 30 million dollar bid followed by a 5 year/50 mil contract with an team out clause after 2008?
  3. I think that what Hendry needs to realize is that the difference between 5 million dollars more than the estimated bids over 4-5 years and getting Daisuke vs. lowballing it and not getting him is black and white. If i think that the Yankees are going to shell out somewhere around 25 mil, than i up it 5 mil just to be safe.
  4. 1st base is not quite as physically demanding as Shortstop & 3B (quick movements laterally are not really good for injury-prone hammys/tendons). I am sure Nomar could still handle 2B or 3B. If the Cubs retain Ramirez, there is no real need to get Nomar. how is 1b any different than 3b other than having to make throws? I think 3b would actually be less demanding since you don't have to stretch for bad throws (unless you are playing for the tigers). At 3B, the reaction time needed it much more than at 1B. And with Nomar's history of groin injuries, he could easily reinjure it with an awkward dive.
  5. I'm not sure I'd do a Matsuzaka for A-Rod trade, even if I could. Yes Yes, i know it goes against logic to take an unproven player over a bonafide star, but there are other ways to get offense outside of Rodriguez. Matsuzaka on the other hand is our best bet at immediately improving the rotation. I would do it however if we don't resign Aram
  6. Can someone explain to me why the computer's averages are so different from the BCS poll? What do you mean exactly? Why do the computers disagree with the polls so much, causing the huge difference in the poll? Or do you mean that the top team gets 25? In the computer averages, 25 is best. If you get a 25, that means you're #1 in that poll-all the way down to 1 point, which means you're number #25 in that computer poll actually. Edit: That is of course until it says the entire computer average: then you want to be #1. the first thing you said. They have Cal at #4, but in the BCS poll, theyre at 8. Also Michigan is almost unanimously the top team in the computer rankings
  7. Can someone explain to me why the computer's averages are so different from the BCS poll?
  8. Rutgers vs. Louisville should be interesting.
  9. I think that Nomar would be a great option for 2B or SS actually. Hopefully we will pursue him even if we do sign Aram back. He would be invaluable playing all over the infield, and maybe even in the oufield.
  10. Interesting if true. It would make a lot more sense as to why a team like Seattle or LA wouldn't make a bid for Matsuzaka. So then that narrows it down to what? The east coast and midwest teams? I wonder if Bora's relationship with the Cubs has helped prevent him from eliminating us. Or maybe Matsuzaka is genuinely interested in joining us. Which would be a welcome change. This is a kind of huge news if the latter is true. It would definately help with future asian imports even if we don't end up getting Dai.
  11. I would love for sammy to come back...just not on the cubs. But definately not for any of our obvious rivals.
  12. If we do end up getting Daisuke, does that mean are chances of resigning Ramirez go down?
  13. I disagree. They are very balanced, but tend to give up some big plays. They have a great turnover margin, and a potent offense. I think they could go toe to toe with the big powers.
  14. once again ill say it, these new rules absolutely blow
  15. these new rules suck
  16. Illinois Scores with 1:40 left, now within a TD.

  18. more sheffield news via buster olney blog
  19. Denver vs. Indy might be the most evenly matched game i've seen all year
  20. Oh well, at least when Cal beats USC, we will jump up higher than we would if they ranked fairly.
  21. Cal - 50 bajillion UCLA - negative 3 :( Plz go easy. This looks like a trap game that could completely ruin Cal's season though. UCLA's defense is alot better than alot of people think, so hopefully Tedford plans accodingly.
  22. Cal vs. UCLA, this should be fun :) But I'm Very pissed that USC is still in top 10 after they lost to the same mediocre Oregon St. team that we handled in their house.
  23. I really hope that Wieters falls to us. We are really lacking in positional talent (even though the whole system is lacking really). I won't complain with brackman though, I just hope he isn't another Bobby Brownlie.
  24. the discrepencies between the cubs and bears right now is remarkable
  25. this might be one of the worst year in baseball I've ever seen.
