  1. Keep guessing... If I wasn't Kyle, I probably would have guessed Kyle too. The mods were on top of things and tracked it down to a previously banned member. Meph, I was going to ask him if he loved Tim Tebow. Is he gone? Meph or Tebow?
  2. If we are going to pay a great deal for pitching we might as well look at David Price. How much would you give up to get him? I doubt we have enough pitching in the system to make it work, but damn he's good (6 WAR this past season).
  3. He looks like the SE Asian Sid Fernandez. If he pitches like him I'd be interested.
  4. Would love to have the Red Baron. Throw in a bottle of scotch and its sure to be entertaining.
  5. bigger win total spread, but not a bigger w% spread. Good point though - I forgot about them. It was likely a purposeful burial inasmuch as losing that 1st round series was incredibly painful to me. It would be interesting to compile a list of teams with the biggest spreads in win totals and see whether there are any common threads between them. I have to think that someone at SABR has done it already.
  6. From the team baseballreference.com page: I can't remember a team with this big a gap between its "Pythag" and actual records.
  7. i think it's a real meatball thing to do. if cutler didn't go down, the team would have made the postseason twice with martz in charge of the play-calling. i don't understand the martz hate at all, you'd think he was jon shoop or something. Let's not pretend they were the greatest show on turf either. Clearly both Jay and Tice had issues with how Martz ran the offense. Fans can be meatball, not players. They had to work with the man every day, whereas fans are judging from afar. They clearly felt that Martz was pushing to do things that didn't work with those players, judging by the interview. Maybe they should be more diplomatic about talking about it, but Cutler is gonna say what he thinks. And I think Tice really didn't get along with Martz, judging by what's been said. A year ago I thought Martz was a victims of terrible decisions by Angelo. Now he reminds me a bit of Rumsfeld - the civilian whose strategy for the military was broadley disliked by all who had to execute it.
  8. Even after the Bulls stopped winning (98') just about any team could build a balanced team to win a title, which is why the Spurs and Pistons were as good as they were in the 00's (yes the Lakers were too, but remember that they got Kobe in a draft day trade from Charlotte). The Spurs teams of that era wouldn't get beyond the Conference Finals today.
  9. http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap2000000046612/article/brandon-marshall-entranced-by-lovie-smiths-chicago-bears I give Lovie a lot of credit for his leadership style and approach. I worry about his schemes, but I think you'd be hard pressed to find a coach who players feel better about working for. Not sure how much a difference that makes to the W-L record, but I don't see how it could have a negative effect.
  10. they simply take into account every single variable imaginable. they rate the bears slightly ahead of the niners in rush defense in terms of dvoa, which is explained everywhere you look on the site. Getting back to Urlacher, the plays he made looked more scheme -based last season (positioning) vs. being a superior athlete and closing on a slant, dropping deep quicker than the QB thought possible, or shooting a gap and stuffing a RB / sacking a QB. That said, I find those things really tough to judge because of the perspective you get on t.v.
  11. I have high hopes that Jackson can become Mike Cameron...not literally of course because that would be weird, but in terms if production.
  12. Hopefully the patience will develop. You can't count on the HBP to continue holding up his OBP like that in the future. True. I forgot about that.
  13. I really want Castillo to hit a ton over the next 8 weeks and grab the starting catcher job by the baseballs.
  14. I like the Nate Robinson signing. He had a PER of 18 last year on a pretty wrteched team. He should be the starting PG until Rose gets back (but they will probably prefer the gritty, shitty Hinrich).
  15. Park/league factors have to be taken into account when making the comparison. Yes, plus how do you just dismiss a 2 year age difference? Not to mention Villanuueva's fielding advantage. Vitters at Villinueva's age now was in AA with nearly the same OPS Villanueva is posting in A ball this year.770 v. .777. I don't think either are elite prospects. I just like Vitters hit/contact tool so much I'd rank him higher. Plus Villanueva's been hit 20 times this year that irrationally inflates his OBP/overall OPS. And one guy is good at defense while the other is bad. Exactly. If he puts up a .260/.340/.450 line you can probably live with it assuming his defense is as good as advertised.
  16. Overall, this looks like a good pull for 2 months of Dempster - starting 3B with above-average potential and a likely 4th or 5th starter / bullpen swingman, each due to arrive in about 14'.
  17. http://insider.espn.go.com/mlb/blog/_/name/law_keith/id/8216730/analyzing-trade-braves-cubs-featured-paul-maholm-reed-johnson-arodys-vizcaino Getting Vizcaino for a 35 year old 4th OF'er and back-end starter reminds me of the Larry Anderson for Jeff Bagwell trade back in the day. Friggin' steal. This is like when Wesley put iocane powder in both goblets, leading to Vizzin's demise....or something like that.
  18. For those of you who are disappointed, what did you expect to get back for Geo a this point? He's working on his second straight awful year at the plate. If Brigham turns into a solid 6th-7th-8th inning guy I'd be happy with the return.
  19. This is quickly turning into a discussion around what Dempster can/can't do! http://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc7/427504_10101775680493870_222904752_n.jpg [expletive] brilliant
  20. They could probably use another bat who can play the infield. Jeff Baker?
  21. Get his bro Chuck. That dude had ice water in his veins. If we can re-team him with Reggie Miller we'd be on to something. Seriously though, I think they are better off punting 12'-13' at this point. Dont let Rose play Before March, see if anyone will take Boozer's contract in return for expiring deals, hope for a high lottery pick (looks like some good big men will be available next season), and see whether we can nab an SG (Ellis? Martin? Evans?) in free agency.
  22. Are they planning to give Rip 35 minutes a night? Be lucky if he plays 35 games.
  23. I'm a Kirk Hinrich fan, and I don't believe he'll be as bad as his stats the last couple of years indicate (especially in a diminished role), but why not just bring back Watson? I believe the Bulls had a $3 million player option on him. Why pay Hinrich the same money when Watson has a better PER and is a better three point shooter? I have to think Watson is the better defender at this point too. This one's kind of a head scratcher. Does PER measure grit and "popularity with ignorant fan base"?
  24. Lets get back on point here: The Bulls are a safe bet to win between 52-57 games each year as presently constructed. I also think they are a safe bet to lose in the EC Semi's or EC Final each year. Is there any way around this fate?
