  1. This also means we get 30 minutes a night of Hinrich. [expletive]
  2. I've been sitting here trying to figure whether and/or why this seemingly happens more often to the modern hoops player than the ones I grew up watching in the 80's and early 90's. your theory sounds as good as any I came up with. Now I'm going to stick my head in a blender. If Rose is out for the year, I'd suggest they radically rip this thing down: trade everyone one with a pulse who isn't named Joakim or Jimmy, and hope we luck into Wiggins or Parker.
  3. So now Ilitch is ok with trading him? Doesn't make a lot of sense.
  4. I also wonder what Detroit fans are thinking here. Should DD be criticized for not having seen this coming with Fielder? He handed him a bloated contract just two years ago knowing that he had several young, very talented pitchers who would need to be taken care of, plus Miggy a year or two from now. Isn't DD lucky as hell that he found someone willing to take this contract at all?
  5. I know Castellanos is well thought of, but based solely on numbers in the minors, he looks like he doesn't have much pop. Am I missing something?
  6. Wow. That type of deal is so rare. Off-hand the most recent one would be Dodgers - Red Sox a couple of years ago. Before that, McGriff-Fernandez for Carter-Alomar?
  7. His signing was the moment I considered myself an "educated baseball fan." I remember thinking he was going to shore up our bullpen and be the missing piece, and that only truly educated baseball fans could appreciate the value of a shutdown reliever. we were so innocent back then It's funny that you put it that way. After his melt down at Shea in 2004 (I was there) and Sammy's uncerimonoius exit shortly thereafter, I became a hardened, cynical fan, divested of the wide-eyed innocence of my youth. Cubs baseball hasn't been the same for me since.
  8. I feel the same. It shows that he bases his decision on objectively derived stats rather than conventional wisdom.
  9. This game has no impact whatsoever on Ferentz or the fans' perception of him. Some think he's fine, some want him to go. His buyout is still the biggest hurdle for Iowa. Similarly, while losing to Iowa would be bad, Hoke can save his season by beating OSU. You don't gain or lose much at UM in the Iowa game. I disagree re Hoke. He isn't going to beat OSU, so he needs this game to avoid a 7-5 / 3-5 record, which - combined with the anemic offense and up and down defense - will put his head squarely on the block. 8-4 / 4-4 isn't much better, but it probably will be perceived that way.
  10. Ferentz vs. Hoke in the "Loser Has One More Year Before Alumni Start Calling For His Head" Bowl.
  11. Wait... really? On the road, our D is running on fumes (something like eight injuries assuming Shea doesn't play), and and playing an offense that came up huge in their last outing..
  12. It's not good and the schedule is tough. That said, I think the offense gives them a reasonable chance to get 10 wins and sneak in. Plus I am not convinced that Detroit won't fall apart. Other than the Vikings to close they don't have any games I would give them for sure.
  13. Exactly. The reason they actually have a shot at the playoffs and maybe beating someone is that their offense is in the top 1/4 of the league. Does anyone have a tandem at WR like they do outside of maybe Denver? Forte and Bennett may not be all-pros, but they are solid second teamers. The O-Line has been excellent. [expletive], if Tillman and Briggs come back they can probably play with anyone in the NFC except perhaps Seattle.
  14. But can they claim Will Fuhrer as a former starting QB? Yeah, I didn't think so.
  15. Came for Jets/Bills analysis, that's disgusting Not if the ANALysis is performed by Michelle Tafoya. Stolen from Mr Plinkett?
  16. This! I was totally bummed about losing Laddy and 'Steeg. At least we got one of them back. We have a bitchin' third line right now, and he more than makes up for losing Handzus. Now we need a third pairing D-man (Brookbank is awful), maybe a checking/physical center, and we are good to go. Neither of those things should be terribly hard to acquire come January.
  17. No Peanut and no pass rush means we will be lucky to win 2 more games.
  18. If we are trading Starlin there had better be some damn near ML ready talent coming back.
  19. They can't divorce themselves from Jay for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that he's a very good QB.
  20. Ireland allegedly told Martin's agent that he (Martin) should respond by punching Incognito. If that is true, the 'Phins may face serious legal exposure. My guess is that their attorneys know this which is why Philbin has been saying all the right things publicly. On the other hand, someone should tell Hartline and Tannehill to STFU.
  21. O'Hare sitings / interactions: - Ditka (AAdmirals Club) - Gary Fencik (Priority security line) - Rollie Fingers (men's room - this is a great set up for anyone who cares to roll with it) - Jesse Jackson Sr. (twice: once at security; another in terminal)
  22. I walked by Metta World Peace on Mich Ave when the Knicks were in town last week. For whatever reason I blurted out, "Hey, Ron Artest!" Shockingly I received no reply.
  23. I get what you're saying about Shark, but what about replacing him through free agency or another trade? And will we really miss Barney? I don't think this trade necessarily makes us that much worse.
