  1. I'm not arguing for the sake of it, but couldn't he play OF a day or two a week to take some of that wear and tear off? The reason I'm pushing this is that I think having a genuinely good hitter at C might be the ultimate find in the modern game. That said, I get what you guys are saying. If his bat is that exceptional the risk of injury or fatigue is high enough where it doesn't make sense to keep him at C.
  2. To me a catcher who can hit at a high level is a unique property. I guess I'd rather let him take his time (ie, two years) and get here when he's ready.
  3. Maybe the plan is to do that and then have him work on some things with technique catching-wise in the offseason. Personally, I'd just throw him in LF and let him rake his way up. Why dont we want a catcher who can rake? Isn't that much more valuable?
  4. Adding Afflalo and Melo while subtracting Boozer and Butler certainly makes us better than Indiana and probably better than Miami assuming they return everyone and improve their bench. EDIT: I'm assuming we have to part with Jimmy in order to get AA.
  5. such easy oppo power. http://i1208.photobucket.com/albums/cc379/LydziStark/Games%20Of%20Thrones/ImpressiveJon.gif
  6. Exactly. Grace used to hang with Woody at Durkins back in the day (I was there too and I'm good people).
  7. Is that some sort of new dance?
  8. Webber is a schmuck. Then again his best years did come with the run and gun, no-defense, Kings.... Who couldn't get past the Lakers. And the comparison with Pop is a joke. Everyone is sucking his ------ now, but two years ago he was eliminated by freaking Memphis in the first round. He's a great coach, but he's not someone who caters to offensive stars or is otherwise known for his offensive genius. He has had some of the best individual scorers in the game for years in Parker, Duncan (perhaps the greatest back to the basket center/forward of all-time), and Ginobli, and has made great decisions in surrounding them with talented and unselfish role players. That's not the same as being some creative offensive genius.
  9. Anything interesting to say?
  10. Zimmerman, Bonafacio and someone between 10-20 in their system would intrigue me.
  11. I know, I know - service time....but can't we just bring Alcantara up to play 2B? Barney is so very bad. I'd even be happier with Valaika at this point. He can't be worse.
  12. Nice thing about a sign and trade in the case of Melo is that you don't necessarily have to part with equal value to get the return you seek.
  13. You can't argue with what the Cubs offered him, IMO. He'd be nearly 35 when that deal ended, correct? I also understand why he'd rather see what he's worth at arbitration and then free agency.
  14. Yes, I meant the likely trade candidates. I wouldn't trade Luis either, but I dunno if the FO feels the same. I forgot about Hammel and agree he has more value. Not sure I'd agree re Arietta at this point, but that is possible as well.
  15. If they get to keep "Redskins" then a new LA franchise should be called "Wetbacks" and the Jets should petition the League to change their name to "Fighting Kikes".
  16. If you ignore Valbuena and Castro's existence, sure. Being the 4th best position player on a last place team over a two week span isn't exactly a ringing endorsement. Okay... After April 6th, he has a .915 OPS At this point he may have as much trade value as anyone outside of Shark and Valbuena. Team control until 2017, gets on base a ton, has some power, plays CF.
  17. If you ignore Valbuena and Castro's existence, sure. I did say arguably. It's not like I compared Castro to Barney. Why do people argue for the sake of arguing, BTW?
  18. That should tell us and the Gar-Pax a lot.
  19. Ruggiano has been great. Arguably the best player on the team not named Rizzo over the last two weeks.
  20. I'd listen to offers for anyone in the rotation. Arrieta appears to be injury prone. If you can dupe someone into giving up a Top 50-60 prospect for him you do it.
  21. I don't think that matters as much as who they beat in order to get to the Finals in the first place. Bulls went through that as well in some cases. They arguably faced greater challenges from / talent in the Pistons, Cavs (I almost feel bad for Price, Daugherty, Hot Rod Williams, Nance, etc.) and Knicks (one ore shooter and they probably win the championship in 94') than they did from the Lakers (Magic's last legs, Worthy and Scott were hurt, etc.), Suns (one year wonder with one all-time great in Barkley), and Sonics (pre-donuts Kemp and the Glove; collection of aged and limited role players; okay Detlef probably was better than I am giving him credit for). The Jazz (Stockton & Malone; Hornacek was vastly underrated; 'nuff said) and Blazers (they came close twice; people forget that they had the Bulls badly on the ropes in Game 6; Drexler, Porter, Kersey, Duckworth, Buck Williams, Cliff Robinson, and the underrated Robert Pack) teams they played were really, really good. I know they didn't win championships, but the only reason they didn't is because the best player / side-kick combo of all-time stood in their way.
  22. Gaborik, Mitchell and Greene are FA's My guess is that they can't afford Gaborik. I thought Richards was a FA too. Or is that the other Richards? Brad, I believe.
  23. Gaborik, Mitchell and Greene are FA's My guess is that they can't afford Gaborik.
  24. You don't like Hunter Harvey? And for me its pretty much Betts or bust with the Red Sox. I guess I am hoping for a centerpiece that is more ML ready.
