I loved the 89' team and Zim. Not as much as I did the 84' team, but watching Walton, Smith, Dunston, Gracie, Ryno, Hawk, Berryhill, McLendon, Wilkerson, Red Baron, Bilecki, and Maddux was a joy that year.
Wasn't Crawford like 26 when he started? Same with Niemi, while Huet was getting most of the time. Anyway, I have no idea who should or should not get more chances, I only interpret what the beats writers say about who is in Q's doghouse and who is in his good graces. Craw had been up and down with the team and was untested. Same with Niemi. That is fairly common where goalies are concerned. To me it feels more like he isn't going to risk losing games in the playoffs just to get Joakim Nordstrom more experience.
There seems to be a lot of "Q doesn't let the young guys play" stuff going on in this thread. I don't think that's true. Leddy, Shaw, Crawford, Versteeg, Krueger and Bollig all arrived from the minors / Europe on Q's watch and have played significant roles. Niemi as well. EDIT - I forgot Hammer and Bickell in 2010.
I've seen Conforto mocked to the Cubs in a few different places now. Does this strike the resident draft experts as a cost-saving move if that's how it goes down?
I agree the Cavs trading the no. 1 for Noah doesn't make sense. That said, its the only way I'd consider parting with him. He's a unique asset in today's NBA. I'm leaning towards this as a great scenario for the Bulls: trade the two picks to move up to 12 (Orlando) and select Gary Harris. Trade or amnesty Boozer and the 3 non-guaranteed's, acquire Carmelo. That would be a very potent team.
RealGM speculating that Cavs are interested in Noah, Love and Aldridge. Have to think that the 1st pick in the draft would be the bait. Would you do Noah for the 1st pick plus Waiters or Tristan Thompson?
What could they get for Seabrook? To start? A 2nd line center and a Top 4 d-man, IMO. There's little in the way of FA defensemen available. Seabs really, really pissed me off during the playoffs this year. He was almost always flat footed in front of the net. Its possible he was dinged up, but his refusal to use his body or stick his nose into anything resembling a pile-up was very noticeable and hurtful.
"Any expansion of Wrigley Field approved by governmental authorities shall not be a violation of this Agreement, including this section." Hammer clause. If accurate, Ricketts could have just gotten city approval and told the rooftop association to [expletive] itself. Nice of him to at least try to bargain with them first.
