Maybe this should be in its own thread, but I was thinking about what Hendry said about Dempster and all the confidence he, Piniella and Rothschild have in him. I can't help thinking they are just trying to increase his trade value.
Griese would be doing nothing tonight too. Grossman has no running game to take the pressure off, and the receivers aren't getting open. Yes, he's trying to make things happen that aren't there...but that's because he has to. I'm not a big Grossman fan at this point, but lets be fair. Yes, let's be fair. All of what you wrote is correct. In addition, it is also correct that he has had time and good protection on many of his recent attempts and has air-mailed them. Haven't you noticed the floaters he has been throwing?
I agree with respect to the GM, but not the ownership. The problem isn't the amount of money the Trib is willing to spend, but rather how Hendry uses it. You don't think that there's some organizational root to the fact that we refuse to pay market value for anyone? Could be, but if the Org itself is to blame for anything its horrendous hires, not an unwillingness to spend money.
I could get on-board with dealing Barrett, but no Z or Lee. We have to have something to build around. I am also forgetting that if we deal-off all of those parts we can expect to get some stuff in return. That would be nice.
I know that you know this already, but Jim has essentially put himself in a spot where he has to acquire THREE top tier hitters and two good starters. Forget it. We'd be lucky to get one of those top tier players let alone three of them? Are you asking or telling, Mr. Burgundy?

I think the Cubs should re-sign Maddux. I dunno what Himes is waiting for. I mean, he's young and just won the Cy last season... Whoops! Sorry! De ja vu. <------------------------------
I drank expensive, downtown Chicago alcohol and the sting is still felt. Maybe you could send some of that Mad Dog my way. I am astonished. Maybe I should not be (see my earlier posts in this thread), but still I am. I thought that a guy fighting for his job would do better than this. This has sealed Hendry's fate, barring multiple miraculous moves.
I think Hendry has done a very poor job overall, particularly over the last two seasons. That said, I don't think I know the man well enough to call him an idiot.
I have thought from the begining of this that ARam would be foolish to take anything Hendry offers him. He'll make an extra 10-20 mill on the open mkt, and probably get an extra guaranteed year. He should at least leverage that against the Cubs, especially since Hendry is now fighting a public relations battle and for his job. The "original sin" here was giving him the opt-out.
Question: If you took the time and spent the money to get a good buzz on, why are you spending time here? Go out with some buddies. Meet a member of the opposite sex (or the same sex if so inclined). Start a fight. Something...
The Cubs have stood firm on their principles, and as a result have not gotten a premium free agent in Lord knows how long? 15 years? 20? Probably haven't signed a true top notch guy since Hawk. So yes, 20 yrs.
When Aram is a Dodger next week my point will be more clear. So if Aram bolts you will surmise that its b/c Hendry spent too much time trying to resign Wade Miller? No doubt you provide us all with proof of this theory. Seriously man, he has lots to do, including resigning ARam. Part of being a professional is the ability to multi-task.
