    This isn't The Riot's fault. Theriot isn't as an attractive an option next year b/c this team stinks as it is currently situated. If we had Tejada at short and a productive corner OFer (Manny, Drew, Dunn, etc.), we'd all be a lot more comfortable with Ryan at second next year. May be if Jim does his job and surrounds the "support" players with top-line MLers.... And if its choice between paying Soriano 14 mill a yr for 5 years and finding out if Theriot can play every day, which would you pick?     I completely agree with this. The reasons I am interested in him have more to do with his rep. for holding players accountable and the fact that he sat next to Torre for all those years as a player and coach. Plus I like catchers as managers in general (with some exceptions).

    I'm counting on him to be on the DL for 2007 and if he's healthy it's a bonus. Agreed. And if his ERA is under 4.00 we should praise the Baseball G-ds.

    I won't miss Dusty, I won't miss his style, and I won't miss the dozens of Dusty threads. This might be the most theraputic day I can recall in recent Chicago sports history: Bears crush Hawks cementing themselves as SB contenders, MacPhail resigns (finally), and Dusty should be gone by the time I get back from Yom Kippur services this morning. Hendry has one year to fix this thing. Hope he's planning something big.

    Yes, debated by all of us, the true experts. That's a ridiculous comment, IMO: the fact that something is being debated means that the debate is warranted? That's interesting logic. I know people who would debate you to the end that the Earth is actually flat. Point is, in terms of production relative to salary, Jones was very good this year. So are you saying that the debate is irrational or isn't warranted? Jones had the second best season of his career, yet he still had a mediocre OBP and couldn't hit LHP to save his life. Is it possible for Jones to put up an OPS 40 points better than his career average(which includes this year) again at 32 and 33? I wouldn't bet on it, and that's the point. When Jones puts up an okay season as likely the best of the contract, then it's not a very good contract at all. My point actually has little to do with Jones. You stated that the fact that people are debating Jones' contract "should tell us all we need to know", thus implying that the contract must be terrible b/c people are debating it. That's quite the faulty and conclusory statement. I personally don't like the contract now, and I didn't then. I do like his 06' production relative to the contract, and I also think if you are relyging on him to be a middle of the order guy you have much larger problems to worry about.

    Looking at that Sept split, if he had just hit a little bit this month he would have been huge. His OBP is 200 points higher than his BA, but his slugging is alarmingly low.

    I wish his OBP were higher and that he would not alternatively ground and air mail his throws. However, if we aren't relying on him to hit in the middle of the order, I could live with his production next year.

    Also keep in mind: Jackson has not been getting carries inside the 20; Neither has Lewis; And Gore may lose that responsibility this week after fumbling on the goal line. I need TDs and am not getting any from my RBs. Barber is getting goal line carries, which is why I am considering using him.

    Start three of these guys this week, asteriks next to my picks thus far: Steven Jackson (vs. Det)* Jamal Lewis (SD)* Frank Gore (KC)* Marion Barber (Tenn) Maurice Jones-Drew (Wash) Kevan Barlow (Ind) The only guy I am really considerng is Barber (playing against TN) for Lewis, who has been a disappointment so far.

    That's what I was thinking when I read that in the Trib this morning - they don't give you all the info. And who is this unnamed source that is killing Girardi? Sure sounds like Loria is sending his minions out to do his dirty work. That said, I love Joe and the notion of accountability that he brings to the table. However, I haven't seen enough of how he handles game situations to know whether he's the so-called "perfect fit". Earlier in this thread someone mentioned that he wanted to play Cabrera at 1B, Uggla in LF, Nolasco and Johnson in the minors, etc. I am not sure what's wrong with any of that. Cabrera isn't a great 3B anyway, and his body would take less of a beating at 1B. Uggla's stats make him a productive corner OFer, and again, LF is less demanding on the body. Finally, as noted by Outshined, Johnson and Nolasco were AA - not AAA - stars last year. Its not like they were both Rich Hill, dominating at the AAA level. I really didn't have any problem with any of those ideas. The real question is: If he wanted to make all of those moves, who did he propose to play at 3B, 2B, and to fill the other two rotation slots?

    I dunno if I'd rather have Neifi than Cedeno, but I would rather have a better SS or 2B than he appears to be.

    I'd rather use Moore off the bench then sign another aged and overpriced veteran to man the role. Spend that money some where else that is more important.

    This is nothing more than an opportunistic pile-on for the spineless few. Ridiculous. How many times did Strawberry lapse while with the team? Gooden? They freakin' supported Knoblach and no one's said a word about Pavano. Unbelievable.

    I just re-read the article to be sure I get the theme here - ARod is a bad guy b/c he's unequivocally the best player of his generation (makes Jeter look like Phil Rizzuto), but he's self-motivating, shy, mecurial, and considerate ofthe press? What am I missing here? The main criticism seems to be that he is insincere and a "phony". But the ringleader sure isn't a phony, is he? I mean, Giambi didn't admit to using steroids during the best years of his career or anything like that, right? D'oh! And Jeter's stats stand up against the great shortstops against whom he is constantly compared, right? Baseballreference.com says that these are the most comporable: Double d'oh! And all of these guys like Giambi, Mussina, Sheff, etc. are true Yankees; all of them conjuring memories of Luis Sojo with their league minimum salaries and WS rings.... Triple d'oh! Please shut the hell up and play ball.

    THis whole thing stinks of sour grapes. Giambi is an admitted cheater who bumbled his way through an entire season. So b/c he's one of the boys he gets a free pass in the clubhouse? Carl Pavano ad Jaret Wright have stolen money from the Yankees the last two years. Randy Johnson has been a shell of his former self. Yeah, ARod seems to be an egomaniac and a narcicist. But so was Jordan, and A Rod's probably the best hitter of his generation; Jordan with the bat. So now he's having his first "off" year (if that's how you wish to look at it), and the whole organization is closing ranks on him? Jeter and co. seem jealous to me.
