  1. Not sure that is fair. My namesake hit in the two hole for the majority of his career. Jeter hits or did hit in the two hole quite often, IIRC. LaRussa had Larry Walker hitting in the two hole for a couple of years. I am sure there are more that I am missing.
  2. Davey was a fun player to watch and will always be special to me b/c the Cubs traded for him at the end of the 84' season. Topps then published a special variation of his baseball card that said "Now with Cubs" on the front. I bought what felt like dozens of packs of cards before finally finding it, thus completing my collection of 84' Cubs.
  3. Including Marshall would be even worse!!!! have we been watching the same Marshall who just keeps losing velocity....he was barely breaking 80 at times last year....Marshall can go IMO I have no idea what his velocity was last year, but I'd be happy to have him as the fifth starter. Too bad the Cubs don't seem agree. If Hendry were so willing to part with Marshall et al this deal would have been done already.
  4. Thanks, Tim. This place sure has grown over the four or so years I have been a part of it.

  6. It does? How do you figure that? Yeah, I was trying to figure that one out myself. On the low-end its mediocre, on the high-end we have one of the best 3 or 4 rotations in the NL.
  7. Excellent. He just punched his ticket out of town. Who needs an innings eater? Potential suitors: Angels Rangers White Sox Braves (who says you can't go home again?)
  8. Hill and Marmol are not going anywhere. Frankly I am surprised the local press isn't lobbying for Marmol to be the closer after last season. People seem to be on the Wood Train in that respect.
  9. Piss on you.....not literally.

  11. I don't think he necessarily used 'roids. if you look at his stats - Green's career - you can see that his best yrs were during his mid to late 20's as they "should" be. As he turned 30 he began to fade. Looks about right.
  12. If they draft Otah while Williams is available I will freak. And as I mentioned earlier, I want the Johnson kid from SD. Harbaugh coached him before he took over for The Trees. Besides his obvious raw talent, he is reputed to be very heady.
  13. Whoa; calling them a bunch of jerks is going way overboard. They reacted to a tough situation emotionally rather than logically. That makes them human, not jerks. They shouldn't have skipped practice; I'm not denying that. However, they did all reportedly show up for last night's walk-through. Had they followed through on their threats then maybe stronger criticism would be warranted. However, I don't think they can be faulted for showing support for their coach, even though the way they did so was misguided. I disagree. They could have showed their support any number of ways that would have expressed their frustration but not made them look like petulant children. How about a short statement to the media? A letter? An e-mail? If they can't be trusted to control their emotions (in part, a sign of maturity), then they could have spoken through their parents/guardians. The long and the short of it is: they acted stupidly and aligned themselves with a cheater. I stand by my comments. I'm not disputing that what they did was wrong. What I am disputing is that letting their emotions get the best of them doesn't make them jerks. We're all human, and we all do stupid things at times and react emotionally rather than rationally. That doesn't make us jerks. I agree we all let our emotions get the best of us. It happens, and it does not make us any worse than anyone else. However, what they did reveals a major flaw in their characters, IMO. They essentialy threatened to abandon their teammates and the school because they did not get their way. That indisputably arrogant behavior makes them jerks, IMO.
  14. I really thought Rex was gone, but I am glad he is back. If he is horrible you can always cut him or bury him at no. 3. I would release Griese at this point. You have to make room for a prospect at QB like the kid from Delaware or the guy Harbaugh coached at U of San Diego.

  16. I guess there is a difference between fantasy value and real-life value. That is why we call it "fantasy".
  17. And what exactly are they protesting? That Dakich - a Knight disciple - got the interim gig instead of McCallum, Sampson's guy? Yeah, that is exactly what the university needs, guys: another cheater. \ It's not fair to call McCallum a cheater. The NCAA implicated 2 assistants along with Sampson (Senderhoff and Meyer). McCallum was found to be completely innocent in the whole matter. I haven't heard anything about Meyer being let go, which shows how much about PR this actually as. I made that point inartfully. My point is not that McCallum has proven to be a cheater. My point is that is that I understand why the University would rather have Dakich as the IC over a guy who has been with Sampson in both places that he cheated. If you are IU you are trying to distance yourself from Sampson.
  18. Who invited you? Derwood's sense of humor is at it again, eh?
  19. Those players, particulalry DJ White, ought to be ashamed of themselves. They have sold out their teammates and decided to have a pity party for themselves. I hope that NBA teams are watching this. What a bunch of jerks. And what exactly are they protesting? That Dakich - a Knight disciple - got the interim gig instead of McCallum, Sampson's guy? Yeah, that is exactly what the university needs, guys: another cheater. Sampson is a horrendously arrogant man whose lack of scruples has finally caught up with him. He deserves to suffer, and the fact that some of these players are lining up with him says quite a bit about their character. I also find the irony of Sampson and Knight's (presumably) ending at (relatively) the same time to be delicious.

  21. Not that I buy into this stuff, but people like to point out that the Superbowl loser doesn't make the playoffs the year after. But nobody ever points out that those teams are usually back in the playoffs the year after that. The last 3 SB losers (which is as far back as I checked) from the NFC (not including Seattle who made the playoffs the year after) that have missed the playoffs in the year after, have made the playoffs the very next season. Carolina even went to the conference championship in 05. Not sure I buy into all of that, but I get what you are saying. The way this team is structured, the O and D-Lines must be outstanding at all times. Some teams have skill players who can take pressure off their lines; we do not. Its easier to re-build lines, IMO, then it is to aquire outstanding skill players.
  22. If they fix the O-Line, this team will win 9 or 10 games. If they also get a safety and a DT they should absolutely win 10 games, perhaps 11.
  23. Thus leaving Wally open for jump shots.
  24. Nice job here by Pax. He made a mistake with Wallace and turned it into something that should help the team in general. Hughes can handle the ball and defend big guards, plus he can create his own shot. Gooden can score with his back to the basket. We need to resolve the Gordon-Deng-Hinrich-Hughes-Sefolosha-Noc logjam this offseason. I'd trade Gordon and Hinrich, but that won't happen. I think its more likely that Gordon and Hughes will be gone. Need to also decide if Tyrus is going to be allowed to get minutes. If not, might as well deal him while he has value.
  25. What did he do to get banned this time?
