  1. Otah scares me b/c he was coached by Death Spiral Dave. I know that is irrational, but I can't help it.
  2. I would too, but: a) I don't think he will be there at 14, and b) I still think Angelo will trade down.
  3. I think we are going to have live with Tait at LT for one more year. You're asking a lot to turn over 3/5 of the O-Line plus get a HB, QB and safety. I also am not sure I agree that Jones is not an every down back. If anything, I like him b/c he did not carry the load in college - fresher legs and less injury history. Part of what mitigates and influences all of this is who will be available as FA's. Does anyone have that list?
  4. I agree with Red. We have more needs than I think any of us wish to admit. Trading down from 14 should be easy. People tend to fall in love with a middle-rnd guy who suits their needs. If we trade to the back-end of the 1st rnd and pick up an extra late 2nd pick, we could get three starters for next season. By my estimation we need (in no particular order) at least two new starters on the O-Line (G and T), a HB, a QB, a DT, a S, and depth at OLB. That's a ton of need. EDIT: If we trade down with the Niners and get their second rnd pick, we could be looking at: 1st Rnd: Felix Jones (RB - Ark) 2nd Rnd (Niners): One of these two guys: Gosder Cherilus OT | Boston College | Sam Baker OT | USC | 2nd Rnd (Bears): Flacco (QB - Delaware)
  5. I give credit to Hendry for staying the course and not giving MacPhail any of our top minor league players (Colvin, Veal, etc.) for Roberts. While I'd like to retain Murton, I don't mind trading him for Roberts. That said, Roberts is not worth a top organizational prospect. Hendry seems to understand that.
  6. Hendry has been at it for two months and hasn't given in, so I don't see why he would now. If the deal is Marquis, Murton and Cedeno, count me in. It would be worth it to be out of under Marquis' contract. Problem is that won't be the deal. If Veal is involved, Jim should just walk away.
  7. This deal is a knee-jerk reaction to the Gasol deal. The Suns are scared of the Lakers, and they should be. Plus, they see that the Spurs are older and the Mavs aren't as good/healthy as they have been in the past. The West is far more winnable than it has been in the past several years. The thing you have to remember about the Suns is that their best player is no spring chicken. Their window will close soon too. From that point of view, I understand why they are acquiring Shaq.
  8. I'd throw a bone (minor league contract with invite to ST) towards Colon and/or Hernandez.
  9. You can't prove that. You don't know that. Juan, Sammy, Miguel, Barry, etc. were all-natural beasts. Yada Yada Yada
  10. oh good Lord. i hope this doesn't become a popular sentiment. i might seriously go crazy if that happens. Then you had better get your prozac ready. Your bias blinds you. Does Eli owe you money? are you kidding? here's a list of QBs that played as well, or better, in the super bowl. I'll only go back a few years... Peyton Manning, 2007 Tom Brady, 2005 Tom Brady, 2004 (Brady was 32/48, 356 yards, 3 TDs, 1 INT - i'm not sure how you can say Manning was better than this) Jake Delhomme, 2004 Brad Johnson, 2003 Kurt Warner, 2000 John Elway, 1999 Brett Favre, 1998 Brett Favre, 1997 *Sigh* OK, you are going to tell me those performances were more impressive in light of the circumstances? You are aware that the Pats came into the game undefeated, right? You do know that Manning was maligned all season long and hounded by the NY media? Just admit you are a hater and move on, dude. There's no shame in that. BTW, you completely ignored the Bears' 2006 defense in comparing Manning to Grossman.
  11. oh good Lord. i hope this doesn't become a popular sentiment. i might seriously go crazy if that happens. Then you had better get your prozac ready. Your bias blinds you. Does Eli owe you money?
  12. probably, which is too bad, because he's not good. He's not? 23 TDs to 20 INTs and a QB rating in the low 70s says he's not. Granted, his numbers aren't great, but having a team that led the league in drops doesn't help. and to be fair to manning, whom i don't like at all, he looked like a completely different qb in the last 5 or 6 games. We'll see if the transformation carries over to next year (for my sake, I hope not.) A hot streak doesn't make him good. Grossman had like a 98 QB rating thru week 8 last year. I like to compare him to Grossman, because Eli's numbers this year are remarkably similar to Rex's last year. Do you think that Eli's supporting cast - including defense - is better than what Rex had with last year's Bears? The defense is not. The running game is a wash at best, IMO. The Giant's O-Line might be better in pass protection. Plaxico is better than what the Bears has at WR. It's pretty close.
  13. The play where he evaded the entire defensive line and then connected with Tyree was amazing. The best I have ever witnessed in light of the circumstances. Eli Manning probably made his bones just by getting to this game, but I think his performance deserves to be mentioned along with the greatest in SB history. He was better in this game than Brady was against the Rams in his first SB.
  14. IN Thanks for starting this.
  15. Meh. I never believed Towers would trade him anyway. I believe he is very popular in SD (paging Big Bad B....).
  16. I was thinking about this yesterday. I like him as a bat off the bench - you can mark him down for a .350 OBP and probably .450 slugging in Wrigley (Shea is not the greatest park to hit in). He can play both corner OF positions and 1B. He'd be cheap at this point - perhaps a contract like we gave Ward last season?
  17. The notion that Lou automatically favors vets over younger players is incredibly dumb. He's not Dusty, he never was Dusty, and it is unlikely that he will be Dusty. Please get over it. If you absolutely need a flogging horse to satisfy your fanboy urges, Mr. Hendry is available and deserving of greater criticism.
  18. Sounds like the trade is no sure thing in light of the cash he wants. If I were the Mets I'd give it to him. New ballpark opens in 09' (or is 2010?) and attendance (not always great at Shea) and revenue will go up accordingly; good young nucleus in Wright and Reyes means that you are never too many moves away from contention.
  19. MacPhail must be regretting taking this job right about now. What a joke that organization is.
  20. Crisp's best OBP was .345 in 05'; he put up a 117 OPS+ that season. Can anyone account for why he has regressed in this regard?
  21. I am neither an insider or the "OG" as you call it. Mr. Miles is both of those and much, much more. So, anything he says, would and should trump my information a thousand times over. I just happen to be someone, like many of you I'm sure, who knows different people in many different walks of life. You build relationships and you hear things. And we appreciate your contributions, including the intelligent, non-rumnor based trades you sometimes propose.
  22. When I saw this last night I was wondering if Terry Ryan "had a brain tumor for breakfast". The only thing I can think of is that the Yanks, Sox and whoever else were being very stubborn about the package of prospects they were offering b/c Santana has only a yr left on his deal. The Cubs could easily have matched this deal, IMO. Veal, Hart, Murton and Pie come to mind as at least an equivalent package. However, I understand that we had no chance b/c of the ownership issue. I also would prefer future payroll flexibility to giving 6-7 years and 150-odd million dollars to a pitcher on the wrong side of 30 (sort of like what we did with Alfonoso; one of those contracts is enough), even though he's probably the best picther in baseball for now. I am not going to worry about how this affects the Cubs yet - let's just win the division first. We can worry about the playoffs when we get there.
  23. MacPhail has to be covering for Angelos, but if I were the M's I'd be severely p-ed off.
