  1. I think everyone is just a bit freaked out by his appearances over the last coupel of days. I didn't have a problem with Saturday at all, but yesterday was a bit perplexing insomuch as I thought he should have been gone after getting the 3rd out in the 7th (or was it the 8th? I don't recall).
  2. Question: Are we more concerned with appearences or no. of batters faced? For me its the later. I didn't think Marmol should have come in today, but his stay was short, and as TT mentioned, he is on pace for fewer innings this month than in prior months. On the other hand, every time he even warms up you have to consider that part of "using up" his arm.
  3. second behind The Dude, but you're close... Oh how quickly we forget Ned Yost when its convenient for us.
  4. I know this is old news, by why does Gibbons bat Rios leadoff?
  5. Burnett's injury history and bloated contract scare me. I wouldn't bid high for him (Marshall, a position player and another pitching prospect?) and would insist that Toronto assume some of the financial risk. He'd be a great fit if the price were right, however. I'd rather have CC. No guarantee that he would be re-signed, but you can use that to your advantage in negotiating with Shapiro. That said, the Tribe isn't out of this thing so I doubt he is going anywhere.
  6. This. He's been great, and if your expectations were superstar level, then you set the bar too high from the start.
  7. This. You don't have to be great against the tough part of your schedule if you beat the tar out of the rest, which the Cubs have done. EDIT: Plus, this isn't the Dusty "Excuses r' Us" Cubs. Lou won't allow them to use their schedule as a crutch.
  8. Isn't Duncan pretty bad in left? And I vaguely recall a debate over what the best fielding metric is - what was the consensus?
  9. What a mess this team is on the offensive side of the ball.
  10. Damn it, don't hurt the struggling pitcher!!!!! I can't stand Joe Morgan.
  11. Rogers floated the idea in this morning's Trib that Bedard could be made available at the deadline. Thoughts? Interest?
  12. No. I think that the convo would have to start with Pie and Hill and go from there. You might wind-up with a Pie, Hill, Ceda package at the end of the day. I am not sure what I think about that.
  13. OK, now this is getting embarassing. Vinny Del Negro is the supposed leader? When I went to bed last night it was Chuck Person, who at the least has been an assistant coach for a few years with the Kings. Del Negro has been in the Suns' front office for the last couple of years but never has sat on a bench, to the best of my knowledge.
  14. I a not sure that I agree. That team is really talented, perhaps enough to overcome a not-so-wonderful manager. They scare me far more than either the Cards or Stros.
  15. I loved Stoney growing up and learned quite a bit from him. That said, Brenly is so different that its difficult to compare the two, IMO. I really like Len and Bob in the booth, but if you put a gun to my head I'd pick Stone.
  16. Wow, you're just determined to stir up trouble with these petty little potshots, aren't you? We're not really talking "facts" here so much, but whatever. If you disagree with me on baseball opinions there's no reason to go where you're going here. You'll notice I asked about the possible high school guys and such. Which no one really bothered to answer, but okay. The "fact" is that it takes between 3-4 years to have a decent idea of how well a draft went. To savage the decision makers at this juncture is premature.
  17. At least give Wilken's draft some reasonable time before it is expected to get to the majors. Not many teams have '06 draftees in the majors. It takes the avg. Collegiate Junior 3.2 years to reach the majors and 4.6 for HS kids, I think that is a fair starting point whether you can call Wilken "the Dusty Baker of the scouting world". Why draft Meyer, when he doesn't want to sign? Please don't bother him with those facts.
  18. Tribe. I have a bunch of friends from Cleveland and my cousin is a die-hard fan. I love Sizemore. Plus, the company I work for has the most amazing box of all-time, adjacent to the Indian's dugout with only a piece of glass seperating us from the them. 84' Cub Gary Varsho and I were next to each other and I professed my love for his (limited) role on my fave Cubs team.
  19. I don't understand why people say this. Why do we come to this message board and discuss things then? Let's no one on here go any more out on a limb than "Let's wait and see" and then shut down the board. What's wrong with posting your first impressions? When the Cubs make a pick I like, I'm excited by it. When they don't, I'll complain. I was under the impression that is what sports message boards are for. He's not telling you not to post, he's telling you to hold your water and see how these guys actually perform. His opinion is every bit as valid as yours.
  20. That sucks. I love Michah. I looked up his EqA today and it was something like .333. (I know - sample size, but still) However, the pen is being overworked by our meh starters, so I get the move.
  21. that's not what he said I don't want to get into semantics, so I will just assume that your reading is the correct one.
  22. This is really too bad, and Dusty did him no favors, but it does show that Hendry understood what Mark is facing...and he still offered him a second year.
