  1. Because the Padres and Dodgers are guaranteed to play all-world baseball against the Cubs after quietly laying down and letting the Cardinals have their way with them. Remember, they got swept by the crap on a stick that is the Padres in July, wouldn't shock me a bit if the Padres managed to all of sudden quit struggling vs the Cubs.
  2. I guarentee you, Cardinals pixie dust or not, Lohse, Wellemeyer, Franklin, Pineiro, ie anyone not named Carpenter or Wainwright will implode in the playoffs. Holliday and Lugo both OPSing 1.200 or whatever, this is baseball, and sooner or later regression to the mean will play a role wouldn't suprise me a bit if they went stone cold in the palyoffs. Same applies to the Rockies, Marquis? Yeah, he'll get destroyed in the playoffs.
  3. What is it about the Cubs and crappy hitting catchers? Why can't they get them out?
  4. Kent played 269 games in the minors at second base and started 1,986 games in the majors there. UZR has him as a -8 UZR/150 defender there. Fox has never played a professional inning at second base. It's not something you can pick up over an offseason when you've never played there in your life. OK so it was a completely far-fetched, unrealistic idea but, there are some things I believe I know about the 2010 Cubs: 1. Unless they're released nobody' going to trade for Miles or Fontenot 2. Nobody' going to trade for Soriano - he's here for 2010 like it or not
  5. Why not see what Fox can do at 2B? I don't have the defensive numbers in front of me but, if Jeff Kent could play 2B there's no reason Fox couldn't do at least as well. Fox at 2B gets Fontenot out of the lineup and back on the bench - where he could excel once again. The rest of the lineup is going to remain the same. I believe we'll see improvements from Fukudome and Bradley add a healthy Ramirez and Soto along with Lee being Lee and the Cubs will improve significantly. With the above in hand maybe Soriano could be moved to the 7 spot, besides left out, where can he do the least amount of damage? 7 or 8?
  6. Hey, look on the bright side, at least, Marmol didn't walk anyone last night.
  7. Embedded quote constraint got me but, wasn't it someone named Victor Diaz? An OF who, ironically, was graduate of Chicago Vocational School (CVS).
  8. If the Bears could somehow generate a consistent pass rush many of the concerns/problems with the secondary could disappear. But, as excited as I am about the very real prospect of the Bears having a competent offense, I'm not so about the DL. New coach or not, they couldn't get to the QB last year, now, they're year older and I don't see them getting to the QB.
  9. Marmol walks 24 leading to half of those 12 runs, Shark walks 3 and gives up a GS along with another BB, 1B and two run 2B to Pedro.
  10. 17 base runners and 3 runs? That's all Cubs there, Lou PO'ed at the wrong people, instead of jumping on the media, I wish he'd jump all over Soriano for his dumb-ass base running or Theriot for that matter or Marmol.
  11. The Cubs deserve some credit for hanging in despite the injuries and Lou's been pretty good through it as well. At least he hasn't been lamenting about his team being struck by one injury after another. Just one year I want to see this injury BS, to this depth, happen to the Cards, let's remove Pujols for most of the season and put starters 1-4 on the DL at some time or another. After which, well see just how "good" Ludwick, etc. are.
  12. What's the over-under on Harden BB's tonight? Watch the Phillies break out tonight, they'll take, take letting Harden fall behind in the count and then smash him.
  13. It's amazing the Rockies manage to score 11 runs on consecutive nights with a lineup of 3 legit, good hitters and pile of crap. Yet, the Cubs get 29 hits and manage only 10 runs - pathetic.
  14. I really don't believe the Wild Card is a concern because this team isn't making the playoffs period. It does to many things wrong, time and time again we've seen this team snatch a loss from the jaws of victory. It's very frustrating to watch the Cubs lose to teams that are less talented, but, unlike the Cubs, able to consistently execute baseball fundamentals. We saw it in action last Friday night, how many potential DP grounders did they screw up in the 3rd inning 2 or was it 3? Couple this with perhaps, two of the worst base runners in baseball - Theriot and Soriano (who is also the laziest player in baseball), a bullpen that can't throw strikes an extreme lack of hitting with RISP and you have a recipe for a non-playoff team.
  15. Yes, he tossed a shutout earlier this year while pitching for the Phillies' AAA affiliate, Lehigh Valley Ironpigs. I knew the answer would probably be yes, I'm just ticked the Cubs let this guy off the hook. They should have been able to score at least 4 runs off this guy, his stuff was and is nothing special. The only that may have been special is the whole being baffled by some one they haven't faced before nonsense.
  16. It's probably wildly optimistic or stupid of me but, I believe the Cubs are going shock us all and take 3 of 4 from Colorado. Of course, I was also one of the people who thought the Cubs we're going to come back and win last night. This goes against my approach to the Cubs usually I expect the worst and hope for the best. But, Justin Lehr? Seriously? Has this clown ever thrown a shutout before, even in little league?
  17. I think Harden has him confused with Rolen from five years ago.
  18. Losing to a washed up Scot Rolen and a journey man 32 pitcher - figures.
  19. This is why I'm not worried about what the Cards do, the divison hinges on the Cubs. If they offense continues to score runs or just play to their ability its going to come down to pitching and Cubs are better.
  20. Here's to him having dropped some weight and being in better shape!
  21. Hopefully, the Cubs can get this one tonight, Cards facing Santana in NY tomorrow, good chance they'll pick up a game in the loss column.
  22. How many of the Marlin' 8 runs were scored with two outs? 7? Very frustrating to watch a team score all or most of their runs with two outs of course, if the Cubs could actually throw a strike or two this probably wouldn't be happening as often. Loved the way Marmol celebrated after K'ing Hermida last night, pretty funny Hermida stared him down. Given the Marlins are a bunch of obnoxious a-holes its fitting they get some of their own antics thrown back in their faces.
  23. I was thinking about the weight issue as well hopefully, the Cubs had a personal trainer riding his ass and he dropped some weight.
  24. Que the being mesmerized by never having faced pitcher X as a starter music.
  25. I don't know if that's going to happen thus far, against decent teams on the road, the Cubs have been absolute garbage. Sure, they can beat up on the likes of the Reds, Nationals and Pirates but, except for the odd game here or there, they've gotten the crap beat out of them by Phillies, Cardinals and shortly, the Marlins. Honestly, they're going to get swept this weekend and it's not going to be close. No team plays mostly "decent teams" on the road. You talk like they've played the Phillies in a ton of games on the road this year. They played 3 games against them: 1 was a blowout in their favor, 1 was a blowout in the Cubs' favor and one was up in the air until the very end. The rest of their road numbers in the first half are skewed by the offensive drought they were in for most of May and June. That's not saying that they'll suddenly be road worldbeaters this half, but it's way too soon since they've seemingly started turning things around to just assume that the results of the first half will be repeated. I hope you right and things do change on the road.
