  1. Theriot still has the O'fer going, any takers for 0-20?
  2. There ya go! Marmol! If he consistently throws strikes nobody' going to touch him, throwing K's removes all the league has - take, take, take, pray for a BB.
  3. Given the discussions of probability, mean and regression to the mean in yesterday' Game Day thread, I'll propose a probability, p, for this event of .05 well, I'll stick by my "the law of averages is a bunch of crap" theory that truffle was so nice to archive for me, and say that the Cubs open at Wrigley at .500 or better. Cubs win tonight 5-3. Wells goes 7, gives up 3, and Marmol gets his first save of the season. Reads good to me, let's hope it's a reality by 10CT or so.

  5. I suspect you're thinking of Andy Pratt, whom the Cubs acquired with Richard Lewis for Juan Cruz and Steve Smyth. He pitched in 4 games for the Cubs in 2004 (1.2 innings) and gave up 4 earned runs (21.60 ERA) on 7 walks (strangely, no hits) with 1 strikeout. In one game at Atlanta (which I was at) he faced 2 batters, both of whom walked, and both of whom then scored off of Farnsworth, which helped turn a 2-1 lead into a 5-2 loss. That's him, thanks. I knew his last name started with a P and he was the son of a coach.
  6. Yours wasn't going to be as awesome as this one. Don't stand in the way of awesome. I was hoping to improve on my overall 9-4 game thread record. Vanilla Ice, if the Cubs lose today, it is 100% your fault. if?
  7. I don't believe so, well, not yet, a name which came to mind: Danny Jackson and the lefty they Cubs got from Atlanta, threw perhaps, 3 strikes as a Cub, got hurt and disappeared.
  8. How long will Lee and Theriot keep their O'fers going? Will they get into the 20's? I'd like to see it. Following script, Cubs get routed, demoralizing late inning loss, get routed, I see another Braves ass-kicking today - 10-2.
  9. So long [expletive] Blues.
  10. Go Detroit! They just beat the Flames 4-3.
  11. Detroit takes over the 6th spot with the victory tonight.
  12. Who couldn't see this coming from 2 light years away - the obligatory low scoring one run loss, Cubs actually look like a professional baseball team, play well yet, still manage to lose - classic.
  13. 'Bout time the Hawks hammered the Stars!
  14. The pitchers walking the world and throwing BP was pretty bad however, the most upsetting aspect of yesterday' game may have been the defense. Theriot playing a pop-up into a hit, Lee with whatever that was on the attempted F3-F1, Zambrano' throw into the stands on Prado advancing to 3B. We saw too much of that stupid [expletive] last year and here we are, seeing it on opening day.
  15. It appears to me that the Blackhawks will have some tough cap decisions to make but, in no way shape or form was this season a one-time all or nothing shot at the Cup. My mother-in-law and her father, both diehard Red Wing fans, keep insistng this is situation with the Hawks. Of course, they also insist the Red Wings recent streak of 19 playoff appearances is some kind of a professional sports record - it's not even close - Bruins 29 straight years. Happily, they'll be disappointed to learn the Hawks will be very good next season as well.
  16. Holy jump to conclusions, Batman. Look, Soriano has his obvious flaws and is overpaid, but it's ridiculous to act like he's already a non-factor this season when he's played one game against a pitcher who would eat him alive even if Soriano was even in the middle of one of his hot streaks. How long does he have to crap the bed before this becomes a reality? I may be jumping to conclusions as well but, he was terrible in spring, pathetic today. I don't think it's far-fetched to conclude he's nearly done and a liablity. Is this serious? THEY'VE PLAYED ONE GAME. Lee, Aramis and Soto sucked in spring training, too, so you better get their replacements lined up as well. He's coming back from a season that he played most of while hurt and he's played one game against a pitcher he likely has little chance against even at his best. To be a liability he'd have to go on a stretch of crappy games at least longer than his usual cold streaks. Deciding that they need to think about benching him after the first game of the season is absurd. Agreed I'm being a bit irrattional, give him a chance maybe he'll rebound, I guess, we can only hope.
  17. you know what gets old even quicker? people who have no connection to duke or the ACC or the southeast hating duke with a passion for no reason. I have no connection to the ACC, but can't I hate Duke with a passion because Coach K is scum? I was going to ask a similar question as well.
  18. And it looks like he got it without comitting a foul which is astonishing in itself.
  19. Oh, you're a [expletive] dead man. Maybe when Scheyer making one of his faces and ssr is taking a dump.

  21. There's an excellent chance that's true, he slow spot up shooter, they don't get drafted by the NBA.
  22. It really sucks when a POS like Coach K wins.
