  1. Hossa had 2 assists last night. Tampa fans are probably asking the same thing about Stamkos.
  2. He's been hitting this seasos. Granted it's the PCL which is a hitter's league but he's ~ an .840 ops. without any crazy unsustainable BABIP. The point of this move would be to promote a guy that you wouldn't mind sending back down in a couple weeks and who's development won't be side tracked by what likely amounts to a cup of coffee. If you promote Schwarber and he hits- and there's no guarantee that he will- it will be harder to justify sending him back down to learn to play catcher. The Cubs were patient with Bryant and Baez. It seems unlikely that they will try to rush Schwarber just because they need a DH for a couple weeks.
  3. The Hawks never win game 3 of a series unless they've already lost games 1 and 2. They aren't worried. Toews has been stymied so far because he has to go against Hedman. His line looked really good last night. This reminds me a lot of the Detroit series in '13. I'm not ready to anoint Tampa as the better team until they win a fourth game in this series. Cumiskey hasn't been very good. I wonder if we'll see Timmonen is game 4. I'd rather have him out there for 4 minutes than Cumsikey. TVR looked like a guy that hadn't played in months. Hopefully he adjusts to the pace of playoff hockey because the Hawks could really use him to eat some minutes without giving up the goal that winds up deciding the game.
  4. Instead of calling up Schwarber, why not promote Christian Villanueva instead? He can play third- I've never heard anything bad about his defense. He's had a pretty good season at AAA. If he flops it's not a great loss since there are other guys ahead and behind him.
  5. Stanley Cup Finals haven't been swept in a long time. Nothing unusual about the home team winning game 2 after losing game 1. If The Bishop can't go, that could have a ripple effect that takes the aggressiveness out of their skaters who will need to protect their back up that's now in net. We've seen what happens when they go in a shell. On the other hand, now the Hawks have to solve a new goalie. I felt like they had solved Bishop.
  6. Are they ready to say that Schwarber's bat is ready for MLB? That goes against what they did with Bryant and Baez. I'd be pretty surprised if they brought him up with the intention of sending him back down so soon.
  7. I think I'd want Saad's speed in CF, so I think I'd swap him and Toews. Otherwise, I like it. Toews is deceptively fast. Since he's a robot, he can probably be programmed to be in the optimal position before each play. Maybe David can confirm.
  8. I'm not sure how much blending there will be. 2 of the lines are doing really well. Switching Kane and Hossa or Versteeg with Saad isn't really the classic blender.
  9. It will be interesting to see how the coaches adjust after game 1 considering the extra day off. There's been a lot of talk about separating Kane and Toews since it "wasn't working" in game 1. While their line didn't score, they occupied the lightning's top pair. Considering the drop off afterwards, I'll take a draw between Toews and Stamkos. I feel like Sharp is due to have a big game. I think they'll wait to play TVR until game 3 where they can shelter him if need be. Cumsikey and Rundblad were serviceable in game one. No glaring need to replace one or both of them.
  10. I really enjoyed watching the world cup final in Spanish. SCHWEINSTAGER! I hate pretty much all announcers so they annoy me a lot less when I can't understand 95% of what they're saying.
  11. CF Jonathon Toews 2nd Andrew Shaw LF Patrick Sharp 1st Marian Hossa 3rd Brandon Saad RF Duncan Keith C Corey Crawford SS Patrick Kane
  12. https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/236x/5f/0a/97/5f0a979811bca196b7ada8a7b563e384.jpg
  13. I thought Sharp took BP with the Cubs a couple years ago.
  14. A sort of crazy ex colleague sent me an article, not sure where it was from, that talked about Schwarber as a catcher. In the article, they said that no one ever took the time to teach him anything about how to play the position which is why scouts concluded that he couldn't stick there. It sounds like the Cubs have completely started over, replacing his old habits that relied on athleticism with actual instruction. Schwarber is a hard worker and a fast learner is the sense I get regarding his makeup. Surely it's worth another year to see if he can stick there. Even if he winds up being Mike Piazza and outhitting his defensive troubles that makes him more valuable than turning him into Jayson Werth.
  15. Should be pretty easy for you to figure out, this isn't rocket surgery. Looks like somebody clicked on the Snorg Tees link. Tim thanks you, I'm sure.
  16. The "stole that game" narrative comes from the ridiculous "Crawford is the 2nd best goalie in any series he plays in" meme. That game went just about as I expected with the "4th" line shutting down one of their top 2, the top lines playing to a draw and the Hawks third line being the difference. I wonder what zany lineup Q will send out there on Saturday? Hockey genius though he may be, Q is always doing wildly unpredictable things early in a playoff series.
  17. I'm really interested to see the match ups tonight. I think I prefer Toews- Saad - Hossa against Stamkos and Kruger's line against the triplets. I look for Vermette's line to have a big night against whoever they match up against. Cooper will probably try to get the Triplets out there against Richards line. That may cause some real problems.
  18. What makes me nervous about this series is that Tampa is the best team to come out of the East in a long time. They have the speed to force mistakes and they have a goalie that can cause the Hawks trouble. The Hawks will have to play great to win the series.
  19. Tampa's defense, at times left enormous gaping holes for the Rangers to exploit. Once they tightened up the d, they were able to force the Rangers wide and limit their scoring chances. The Rangers weren't great at scoring goals in these playoffs but they were still able to get them in bunches in game 6. Bishop is a big goalie which means that the Hawks will have to get him moving laterally. The reason why a lot of people are picking the Hawks in 6 or 7 comes down to 3 things: 1 The Hawks use the first couple games to see what the other team is going to do. They wind up splitting these games 2 The Hawks experience in the playoffs trumps their lack of regular season success against Tampa 3 The media assumes that Crawford will have at least one bad game per series but then the Hawks talent wins out. What doesn't get talked about much is Q's ability to game plan and out coach his opponent as the series goes on.
  20. You may not be able to wear a Hawks sweater at the game depending on where you sit. Seems like the 'ning are one upping Nasville's idiotic "Kepp the red out" by not only not sell tickets but threatening to move people to different seats if they are wearing visitor's gear.
  21. What time is game 7? I was assuming it would be the standard 9:30 EST.
  22. i had a class in undergrad with a white girl who had dreads and lived in a commune and it WORKED no white men and very, very few white women should have dreads, though. What worked, the commune or the dreads?
  23. This was wrist surgery. Potentially, he's been skating for a while now. TVR is young and could easily have healed ahead of schedule. I really doubt that Q would play him at this point though. Cumiskey hadn't been playing in the NHL but he had been playing.
  24. If you're counting on the power play to be good during the playoffs, you're in trouble. The lineup changes are just bizarre. Q hardly ever makes changes after a win. I could understand wanting to add Versteeg for more offense but he's been a mess except for that period of time before his injury ie the PB&K line. Vermette must have some sort of nagging injury. I don't believe we'll see Nordstrom again. I wouldn't be shocked to see Hartman if they want to sit Bickell.
  25. Worst announcers since 2003 when what's his face was openly rooting for the [expletive] Marlins.
