  1. The Cubs will call up Hill to replace Aardsma. If Marshall can get through 6 innings they will start Hill Thursday. If Marshall makes an early exit, Hill would pitch today and Rusch starts Thursday. This isn't based on inside info or anything like that but it's the most logical scenario.
  2. He was great as a rookie, then not so great his 2nd year. Then he got fat and was less great. Stopped throwing strikes. Then he got demoted to the bullpen, had a horrible outing. Got promoted back to starter, had a horrible outing. Got demoted to AAA. I was thinking as much as anyone that Williams should be garnering as much interest as mediocre pitchers were getting this offseason. The fact that nobody showed that interest and Jerome can't pitch well enough, long enough to regain that interest leads me to not expect much in return from trading him. How do we know there was no interest? Given Wood & Prior's health issues, the uncertainty surrounding Hill and Guzman, and The loss of depth due to the Pierre trade it seems like Williams would have been too valuable to trade before the season. Maybe Williams doesn't have much value now but it seems to me he has more potential to get better than Hinske does to be of much help to this team.
  3. Actually he is off to a pretty good start, especially by his standards. With tthe Twins struggling offensively, I think they might be at least a bit reluctant to deal him just yet. Not a bad idea, though I wonder if he would really be any improvement offensively over Walker. His HR totals and OPS have been worse career-wise. He wouldn't be replacing Walker, he'd be replacing Hairston or Perez. It wouldn't take much to be an improvement over those guys.
  4. The Reds are a threat until their pitching caves in. Who can say exactly when that will happen? The Nationals last year hung around the NL East race for most of the season before finally falling apart. If the Reds are still hanging around by the deadline they may decide to make a run for it. The Astros have about the same chance of winning the division as the Cubs.
  5. So there's a 40% chance that Jacques Jones won't suck?
  6. Homer "Twenty dollars? Oh, I wanted a peanut"
  7. Anyone else notice how old Girardi looks? I hardly recognized him.
  8. It's harder to boo an infielder from the bleachers. Perez is a backup middle infielder, he's supposed to suck. Booing him would be redundant.
  9. It really depends on how they feel about leadoff. If they think Cedeno can leadoff or if they can find a 2nd baseman that can leadoff then it will be Murton, Pie and Jones.
  10. AB #43. Do intentional walks count?
  11. Ryne Sandberg was also a throw in.
  12. If Pujols doesn't want people to celebrate after getting him out he should make more outs. That way it wouldn't be worth celebrating. No one celebrates after they get Neifi Perez out.
  13. I thought it was a 3-2 count when he got the hit. I wonder if Dusty or Clines told him to try going the other way. :D
  14. Did anyone else notice that The Marlins were playing Murton to pull? There was a huge hole in RCF which seemed odd with a guy throwing 97 on the mound who was working everybody away.
  15. I changed seats from my recliner to the couch at the start of the bottom of the 8th. Also, so far this season every time the Cubs lose my wife drinks out of my Cubs coffee mug and then they win the next day. I therefore take credit for the team not having a losing streak over 2 games.
  16. Of course he didn't get booed by the Twin's fans- there weren't ever enough there to actually be heard. Custer's plan " Let's split up and see if we can find any Indians." Hendry's plan "Let's get career years out of one guy and rely on two rookies to produce and our starting rotation to stay healthy."
  17. Jacques Jones = Alex Gonzalez. Good speed, defense and occassional important HR balanced against no patience, a bad overall approach to hitting and (eventually) a .245 BA.
  18. I just don't get it. The Cubs were frustrated by Corey's inability to be a more selective hitter, so naturally they go out and get a more EXPENSIVE, OLDER version of Corey. I just don't get it. I would prefer Burnitz to Jones. Jim Hendry = No Offseason Plan. Again. That's a ridiculous, baseless accusation. Did his offseason go as planned? Probably not. Did his offseason plan have alot of flexibility in case things didn't go his way? Maybe not. But to say he didn't have a plan is absurd. Custer had a plan too.
  19. Exactly. Maddux knew what they were doing. He knew they couldn't stop him on the field so they were trying the gamesmanship. I just don't think it is such a travesty like some of you do. I don't think it is bad sportsmanship, I don't think it is a "dick" thing to do, and I'm not just saying this because I'm a Cardinals fan. I think it's part of the game. I don't believe it affected Maddux at all. I'd also agree with it being part of the game. But it's a pathetic and embarassing part of the game. I would think most Cards fans would be embarassed by such childish behavior.
  20. You are correct. Instead of moving Barrett to 1st, and having Blanco catch....which would NOT be an improvement--considering Perez is the emergency catch--how about the Cubs go out and get a legit backup 1st base. (I like Mabry in the lefty pinch hitting specialist role) It's bad enough the Cubs have Walker GROSSLY playing out of position at first, do we NEED another player playing out of position. I rather see if Wil Cordero (power RH bat off the bench, perfect platoon with Mabry) could be had. Or Shea Hillenbrand, or somebody of that nature. Cordero/Mabry would be a nice righty/lefty off the bench once Lee returns. The idea is to put Barrett at 1st and Walker at 2nd so as to not wear down Barrett by having him catch every day until Lee comes back. I don't see how Walker is that much out of position at 1st. He may not know all the subtle nuances but he should have good range and hands at 1st.
  21. Maybe the Cubs should check somebodies bat next time
  22. With Lee out Barrett becomes an important part of the lineup. Barrett can't catch every single game. Should he get some starts at 1st until Lee gets back?
  23. Totally agree. It's ridiculous but let's still go ahead and give everybody extensions! Actually one coach was fired after 2004. They waved goodbye to Wavin' Wendell. With the increase in team speed, waving wendell wouldn't be nearly as bad.
  24. Gary Matthews the player was not above drawing a walk. In fact, he drew over 100 of them in 1984. I'm really not worried about him ruining Murton's approach. It does however make me very nervous when I hear that both Matthews and Clinesa are giving him hitting advice because that probably means that Baker will be giving advice too. All players are different but it seems to me that it's a lot easier having only one guy telling him what to do.
