  1. Missed opportunity. Toews' and Keith's contracts are not nearly as bad as Seabrooks'. There's also the undeniable fact that the Hawks defense could be really bad unless some of these young guys work out.
  2. Before the one game playoff, there were teams that didn't really try to win the division because winning the wild card got them the same chance in the playoffs as anyone else. Before there was any wild card there were seasons when a 90+ win team didn't make the playoffs at all but a team with 84 wins did. That's not fair either. A one game playoff is the perfect solution to these problems. Win the one game playoff and your team advances and has a chance for the ultimate prize. Lose the one game playoff and you spare yourself the agony of losing later on. It also gives that team's fans the perfect excuse for what went wrong.
  3. The only format that could even come close to being as good as the current format would be a double elimination tournament like the college world series. That would allow more teams to participate but still have the regular season count for something since it would determine seeding. The added bonus would be a wider variety of potential match ups. The downside would be that the existing system is still better. I'd be ok with making the division series best of 7 but I understand why they don't.
  4. 45-50 145yds
  5. Yeah good luck with that. System not broken.
  6. Is Contreras running off the field or to back up third if the throw went into the outfield? He was running to the dugout. Full watch of it shows him going down the dugout stairs. That is very cool
  7. Is Contreras running off the field or to back up third if the throw went into the outfield?
  8. Because Glennon, that's why.
  9. Would they go Arrieta, Quintana, Lester then Hendricks? That's what the ESPN guys were saying during the telecast last night.
  10. Some others for consideration: David is a robot The initial notice was a physical appearance black GEOVANY SOTO (too old for consideration? Probably) Tiny Face Rizzo Thick Onion Gravy Zambrano's black guy wasn't there another hccf contribution having to do with trying to attack a rattle snake with a tree branch or something? derwood's jorts derwood saying lots of things about things he doesn't actually know about mojo's hatred of shorts and flip flops tree's nachos the idea of the nomar thread being this holy grail of nsbb merely because it was lost and we will never get to see it again I was waiting for someone to bring this up. OMC having a death fettish
  11. I should have made it college basketball since someone might at least be able to make a case, but yeah.
  12. and we have played ... same thought i had lol The Brewers and the team from St. Louis are better than the Marlins and whoever the next best team in the East is.
  13. Ever been to Nationals park before? It's the least interesting stadium ever built. Somehow you're always facing the sun no matter where you sit.
  14. If this series was played about 5 years ago, the Nats would be huge favorites based solely on their starting pitching. They'll probably be heavily favored this year. However, starting pitcher usage has changed drastically as illustrated last year by Maddon pulling the starter before facing the lineup a third time through the order. The keys to the series are how early the Cubs can get to the Nats' starters. Whoever has the better pen will win. On to things that probably don't matter but it's almost lunch time and I could go for some meatballs. The Nats haven't had much success in the post season. The pressure is squarely on them to win now before the face the end of the road for Zimmerman and the departure of Harper in FA. Not to mention Dusty trying to ruin Scherzer and Strasburg. This may be their best chance, will they rise to the occasion or collapse? Meanwhile, the Cubs will come in "knowing how to win" and with nothing to lose.
  15. This could apply to either of these: David is the malfunctioning robot. Mind blown
  16. it's not a meme if it's true Aren't all memes true?
  17. Nothing will ever top the malfunctioning robot.
  18. 1. The first game was enough but he still started game 2. Evidently the coaching staff or more likely management wants to see more to get their money's worth. I never said it was a good reason, just a reason. 2. The drop off from winning to losing, regardless of the win is still noticeable. Once Glennon loses another game it becomes easier to replace him without over inflated expectations. 4. He will have to face tough competition but why do that in his debut if you don't have to? If the season is lost, waiting 3 games isn't going to matter that much
  19. Here are the main reasons (in no particular order): 1 They're paying Glennon a lot of money. When they did that they they committed to playing him more than 3 games. 2 He's coming off a win. That makes it harder to replace him in the event that Trubisky struggles. 3 it's a short week so they'd probably want to give him more time to prepare for whomever he faces in his first start 4 They probably want him to make his debut against a team that is terrible if at all possible. Whether the Packers fall into that category or not is debatable but given the recent history of the 2 franchises it seems like it would be pretty demoralizing if Trubisky bombed in his debut against the team that the fans hate most. None of this precludes the possibility that Glennon starts then gets yanked because he stinks.
  20. I'm rooting for Glennon to accidently win a couple games but then get hurt and Trubisky gets the job and keeps it. If that's too cynical, maybe Glennon gets traded to a team desperate enough to make that move.
  21. see, my idea is already going places. it could make a killing for Cubs charities. This reminded me of the time when Reggie Jackson guest starred on The Love Boat http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0636667/fullcredits?ref_=tt_ov_st_sm At the end of the episode, a young kid gives him a batting tip that worked for him in little league.
  22. Dexter Fowler hit a "Bold 3 run homer". As opposed to a meek 3 run homer? I find the idea that Cubs are the only thing keeping the Cards from being good and winning the division delicious.
  23. There aren't any Sox fans, just Chicagoans (suburbanites, really) That hate the Cubs. Heh. Your namesake, Larry Biiitttner was on those late 70s teams. Had a negative WAR over a 13 year career because he hit .270, Billy Beane was in high school, and no one had ever heard of Bill James yet. Hence the '77, That was the first year I actually knew what was going on. It was also Larry Biittner's best year and 9 year old me was sure he would be a star and lead the Cubs to the World Series.
  24. After they beat the Dodgers, please. So before the world series and after they eliminate their first round opponent the Cubs?
  25. Maybe they were playing the Yankees or the Dodgers. Both those teams played in the NFL though not sure for how long or when it started. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_Yankees_(NFL)
