  1. This stretch of 5 games in 7 days was going to be tough even with Crawford so that somewhat alleviates the devastating nature of the timing of his injury.
  2. I don't understand why people are so anxious to fire Fox now that the season is officially not about winning games. Not winning games is the one thing John Fox excels at. What other coach could have found a way to not win against SF?
  3. Brought to you by Thick Onion Gravy. Just kidding, the Thick Onion Gravy Bowl matches the Coast Guard Academy vs. The College of Automation.
  4. What is the most intriguing bowl game on that list? Wrong answers only.
  5. "Maddonburg?!?" Why can I only give this one heart?
  6. For someone like you that loves to fly, those extra couple hours are no big deal. In all seriousness though, it's not like he's flying in the middle seat in coach on these flights.
  7. Reading what's been said over the weekend it sounds like the Padres or Mariners if not the Cubs. Either of those would be the 2nd best option from an "effects the Cubs" standpoint. Angels would be next.
  8. Love it Which of these players is the most desirable? Maitan woulda coulda shoulda been the easy answer but he showed up fat. LIVAN SOTO
  9. There's no harm in promising and giving him 300 PAs. He's a professional. As such he's not going to want to keep hitting if he can't do it well- which is the real concern, isn't it? I mean besides injury risk. I thought that scouts were suspect of his ability to hit MLB pitching. I think all that will play itself out in time. If he can hit, teams won't mind giving him the promised PAs. If he can't, he won't mind being just a pitcher.
  10. 1. Matt LaFleur 2. John DeFilippo 3. Matt Patricia 4. Matt Nagy 5. Pete Carmichael Jr. So, basically.....hire a Matt. I'm skeptical of Carmichael. I've read he doesn't really have the personality to be an NFL HC. And I hate the thought of Pace trying to mimic the Saints to a tee. They are an OK franchise to model themselves after, but it's going to be hard to duplicate that success without Payton/Brees. And it's hard to say how much success is due to Carmichael. I wish he had some history of success without Payton and/or Brees. Not interested in guys like Jim Bob Cooter or Jim Schwartz. Would have hope with McDaniels, Gruden, or Harbaugh, but wouldn't be all that excited, despite them being big names. The latter 2 aren't likely anyway. Frank Reich is interesting, but is 55 and part of his appeal is if DeFilippo comes with, even if only for a year or two. Shurmur is interesting, but 52. Rather stay under 48 or so. The Matt Daddy probably fills that criteria. If not, there's also the Daddy Matt.
  11. I'm not sure it's crushing. It might have been had Hossa not gone on LTIR. There are worse D men making the same same as Seabrook. With reduced minutes he hasn't looked that bad if you weren't comparing him to what he used to be.
  12. Bears have never won as favorites during the Fox era (or is it covered?, either way it's pathetic). SF is terrible. Something's gotta give. Tie game ends 3-3.
  13. H-A double N- E M-A-N spells Hanneman, Hanneman Why does he have that superfluous N at the end of his name?
  14. False. They use ham as a weapon to fight for freedom wherever there's trouble.
  15. Hot take: Alabama will maintain their number 1 ranking only if they can get past Mercer.
  16. The malfunctioning robot is the best thing ever posted here.
  17. All of the old Cubs.com people, remember that guy that faked his death by pretending to be his own brother going online to say goodbye after he had drowned in a boating accident? Then he showed up a couple months later to say it was research for a paper he was writing for a psychology class. Good times. this happened on a baseball message board i used to visit as well, appropriately named baseball.com. the dude was dating another poster on the site and roped her into it to post that he died in a car accident. it was bizarre. and then he came clean a few days later and everyone just kind of forgot it even happened. People on Cubs.com were angry and 2 other people that were sort of involved stopped posting because of this. Of course, back in 2001 people expected better behavior from people on the innerwebs. That seems so stupid in retrospect.
  18. Shorter list: Hollywood creeps or Hollywood not creeps?
  19. I made the month and day of our anniversary the key code to unlock our house and my wife said "How am I supposed to remember that?"

  21. Cubs spurn Jeckel, Hire his alter ego promote, but this one works well enough How about this then: Cubs choose Hyde over Foreman
  22. Hahahah! Man, you gotta press this. Yeah that was probably the worst thing he could have possibly said unless it's followed by a 20 minute diatribe about the misguided adventures of said Bum.
  23. are you delusional or what No? Are we really conceding this guy because the team can’t offer him a whopping $3.5 million or whatever? Sorry - a couple million bucks and not enough Japanese people in the area or something? The money being the same where ever he goes makes LA being more attractive for non baseball reasons a legit concern. It's a much shorter flight home from the West Coast. How important that winds up being is impossible to say. Maybe he winds up in Seattle and it doesn't matter because Seattle hardly even exists in the Cubs universe.
