  1. One possible effect of the steroids era is the voters may favor players that are borderline but they know are clean. Far as I know, Kent never got caught so his numbers carry more weight than say Jason Giambi's.
  2. Hopefully he is fine. Did Sheets have a groin injury last year? They seem to linger for a long time.
  3. Casey McGehee gets the call up. Nice to see the Cubs reward a system guy. This move is more about morale amongst the rest of the non prospects than anything else. Look for him to make his only start at 3rd the day after the Cubs clinch. It was also good to see Wuertz actually get used in a close game. Maybe he got a haircut and Piniella doesn't know its him.
  4. He's a back up middle infiedler. They're not exactly renown for their offensive prowess. Hopefully they'll call up a RH hitter so they don't have to use Cedeno to PH in those situations.
  5. Wait, do you mean to say that people drink Pabst even though they have a choice of something else?
  6. Maybe they can't overtake the D Backs but they can make things uncomfortable for them. The longer they stay in the race, the less chance the D Backs will have to set their playoff rotation.
  7. we've gone 8 and 2 but can't make up any ground wild card here we come
  8. I believe Yahoo started the Angels countdown when it reached 20 games- at least that's the 1st number I noticed.
  9. How about End of the World as we know it by REM? The theme from Man of La Moncha The theme from Shaft 9-1-1 is a joke Kill the Poor by the Dead Kennedys Punk Rock Girl by the Dead Milkmen That song by Dead or Alive Alive She cried Cry freedom Me & Bobby Magee Any of those are better than Bon Jovi or any other 80s hair band
  10. I think the Cubs could be undefeated right now and you still would question if they're for real or not. If the Cubs were undefeated I'd put their chances of mking the playoffs about 60%
  11. I meant eliminated from the WC. Now when they face the Cubs they'll be playing for spite instead of playing for the hope of making the post season.
  12. In all honesty, I wish the Pirates would go on a nice run to finish the year. Do they still have a chance of a winning season? edit: They're 6 losses away from another losing season. That's too bad
  13. This split was probably the best case scenario for the Cubs. It allowed them to extend their lead over the Brewers by a game while effectively eliminating the Cards.
  14. Why would you say that? If nothing else is on, I'll put on the Dodgers game on Extra Innings just to listen to Vin. His voice is just so... baseball. I miss the days when Vin would do national broadcasts. he's easily one of my all-time favorites. Vin Scully and Joe Garagiola (sp?) were great on the NBC game of the week. As were Bob Costas and the other guy that he did games with back in the 80s. In many ways those 2 teams really ruined all other announcers for me. Tony Kubek (sp?) Thanks, that was bothering me. My memory of Kubek was that he was pretty understated and didn't spout a lot of the crap that bothers me so much today. Of course it could be that I didn't know any better back then. I really wish ESPN classic would show the Sandberg game so I could here some Costas when he was still humble.
  15. I could definitely see them stretching out Samardzija at Iowa with Wood, Marmol, Guzman, Cotts, Marshall, Gaudin and Wuertz/ Ascanio rounding out the ML pen. Even if they trade Marquis or let Dempster walk, that would likely open a spot for Hill or Gaudin. Samardzija has more long term value as a SP and he would provide some depth in case Hill or Gaudin falter.
  16. Actually, the greatest fans in the history of sports totally understand and don't mind at all.
  17. Team OBP?
  18. Preceding that with the always popular "roll over" option. Or perhaps "curl up"
  19. Those last 3 of the year may be meaningless for both teams.
  20. Why would you say that? If nothing else is on, I'll put on the Dodgers game on Extra Innings just to listen to Vin. His voice is just so... baseball. 21. All they need is a split with the Cards. I expect the Phillies to pass the Mets and win the East. I like the Brewers chances better than the Mets for the WC. Phillies- Brewers in the 1st round will be quite a series.
  22. For that matter, you have to wonder what Sheets will have left by that point in the season. Same with Parra. Both those guys could hit the wall in October. Parra is a rookie and hasn't pitched this much in September. Sheets hasn't gone this deep in a season for a while.
  23. They won't be eliminated but realistically they have to sweep these 2 games with the Brewers to have any chance. I believe Sheets goes tonight but has been struggling lately. How does this series shape up?
  24. 6 of the last 10 LCS have gone 7. I am not sure of the data myself, but I would prefer the opposition tries to pitch guys on short rest, especially if they go deep the game before. Thanks. I rarely watch the playoffs after the Cubs are eliminated. Who was the last pitcher to start 3 games of a 7 game series?
