  1. Tomorrow will be the first time that I voted for a Presidential Candidate that winds up losing.
  2. Where's the option for the popular vote is meaningless?
  3. They'd be much better off keeping one or two extra guys in to block and sending a couple guys deep than going with the quick routes option. And no, Turner isn't going to have Rex roll out. I don't get the over the top criticism that Turner takes. He's not horrible. He disappointed me last year, but he's done a tremendous job this season getting a productive unit out of what everybody considered weak QB, WR and line situations and questionable RB. The offense has had to be more aggressive this year. The days of thinking that they could win with defense and just enough offense are over. They can't play conservative and win. It seems like Turner and Smith have accepted that. The Bears can run on the Titans but they'll need to set that up with the passing game, run a lot of play action and screens. The key matchup in this game though will be the Bears D-Line vs the Titans O-line. Kerry Collins is a statue back there. If they can get pressure from the front four they can shut down the Titans offense, a unit that looked pretty bleh against the Colts for most of that game.
  4. I don't see why the Orioles would make that trade. I'd rather have Liz than Marquis. Sanchez and Wilson aren't enough for Roberts. The Orioles are happy to keep Roberts unless someone overpays. If they can't extend him they can trade him at the deadline.
  5. You must really hate the English language to suggest this; even jokingly.
  6. Rogers thought they might do a sign-and-trade deal like basketball. Then he's an even bigger idiot than previously thought. There are no sign and trades in baseball.
  7. I wonder if the Yankees would take Soriano back. He'd be a considerable upgrade to some of the players they ran out there this year. He could DH some to save his legs. While they did trade him they got ARod in return so it wasn't as though he was run out of town.
  8. He went 16-1 with the Cubs in 1984. Nothing he does can make me hate him; though he seems to be testing that theory every time he opens his mouth during a game.
  9. Ok so it turns out that the guy doing Obama really does suck. He's actually doing Bryant Gumbel doing Obama.
  10. Baseball player gets mad and breaks something: he is immature. Baseball player controls his emotions and doesn't react: he doesn't care.
  11. I think they don't bring back Edmonds. They take their chances with the Pie/ Johnson platoon and if Pie flames out they slide Fukudome over to CF and find another RF. Maybe they just start Fukudome in CF, get someone like Abreu and trade Pie. I'm not sure whether Edmonds would rather play for 1 million or just retire.
  12. I don't know who or what Keenan and Kel are so it did nothing for me. It seems pretty clear that people that support Obama don't like the SNL impression (at least in this thread anyway). Darrell Hammond sounds exactly like McCain but he's done so many impressions that it's hard not to think about him doing Clinton, etal and not be distracted. I'm guessing there are probably about 10,000 people that could do a good Sarah Palin. It's a simple formula of looking like her and doing the accent from Fargo. It's the comedy equivalent of hitting a Howry fastball. It's still funny though. I also liked Parnell's Tom Brokaw.
  13. I like the idea of Jason Marquis starting for someone else.
  14. Which will result in a crappy 1st round pick which no doubt gets wasted on either a soon to be injured O-lineman or a bleh QB.
  15. North American Marlon Brando Look Alikes That is what it stands for... I hope.
  16. In case you come back to read this, I'm pretty sure the O's already did or are planning to extend Roberts rather than trade him. The feeling here is that they have a good young nucleus with Markakis, Jones, etc. and having some upbeat vets like Roberts around will help them develop.
  17. I agree on Dempster in that he won't be worth it but Hendry will bring him back. Our only hope there is that someone makes an absurdly high offer or Hendry blames him for losing game 1. I would like to see the Cubs go after Texiera and trade Lee. I'm sure a team like the Orioles would be glad to take him and give something valuable in return. I doubt this will happen but it really depends on what Hendry believes is the cause of 2 straight early playoff exits. He may look at how vulnerable to Cubs lineup looked against good RH pitching and want to add another LH bat. He may also expect better seasons next year from Pie and Fukudome and leave well enough alone.
  18. 1930: Grimm Heathcote Mal Moss Jesse Petty Bud Teachout I hope this guy wasn't the hitting coach.
  19. This is an encouraging sign. The strength of the Cards organization used to be letting guys like Lohse walk or trading them for max value.
  20. I have yet to see in person anything from Gaudin that makes him any better than Wuertz. Granted I don't get to see all of the games but Gaudin seems pretty mediocre.
  21. This reminds me a lot of the Cubs sending Kerry Wood out to pitch that playoff game in '98. Pitching with a leg injury is a bad idea.
  22. Hence Joe Morgan coining the phrase "slide piece".
  23. Little League has a rule that bans any kind of sticker on a batting helmet. It's really annoying when one of the other team's coaches calls attention to this. I guess they get some kind of competitive edge, though I couldn't say what that was. I hate this kind of BS.
  24. Cubs are right in the middle of everything. If the Brewers can take 2/3 from the Pirates- which they ought to- and the Cubs split with the Mets The Brewers would be 1 game back heading into the final weekend. If the Cubs take 3/4 from the Mets then they should be tied with 3 to play. If the Mets do better than a split vs the Cubs they probably still have to battle to the end for the division title. This is important because Santana is slate to pitch the last day of the season if needed. that would make him unavailable for game 1 of the NLDS.
  25. There's a good chance that Fukudome isn't even on the playoff roster. Who would they take over Fukudome? HoffPauir? Can anyone really think they'd take a journeyman 28 yo minor leaguer over a guy they thought highly enough of to give a big contract? At the very least Piniella will want him as a defensive replacement for Derosa. If there were a viable RH OF I could see a possible argument but if it comes down to Fukudome, Hoffpauir or Pie I can't see either of them providing that much more offense to make up for the lesser defense (in the case of Hoffpauir) and the embarassment of admitting that signing Fukudome was a mistake. As for Pie, there's room for both on the roster if they do the sensible thing and go with 11 pitchers.
