  1. Silly Cuse, fight songs are for football.
  2. It's a little game I play. I see how long it takes Dibble to say something stupid. That's an out. If he says something that makes sense it's a base hit. If the Skipper agrees it's a double. If they bring in a guest, every time they say "you know" is a strike. Every time they say definitely its a ball.
  3. If Gallagher had been included in a Roberts trade, whose to say that the A's wouldn't have taken someone else in the deal? They held out for Gallagher because he was there and available. It seems like the A's were trying to get what they could for Harden.
  4. Welcome to NSBB. Pie could/ should also be a defensive replacement for Edmonds. Not making the catch is excusable, letting him advance to 2nd was not.
  5. A better solution would be to go back to 2 divisions and have 2 WCs. Though that would also create other problems like travel, schedulling and interleague.
  6. Eckstein isn't very good. Is he really that much better than Hu? They had no room for Dunn since they already have 4 OF.
  7. I think, at the very least, another spot start for Marshall against Houston so they can throw Dempster, Lilly and Harden against Mil. is pretty smart and hopefully likely. 9/13 and then Zambrano on 9/14 makes sense in a lot of ways.
  8. Every year it seems like there's a big season ending injury to someone in week 1. Injuries are part of the game. It will be interested to see how long this story hangs around. Even ESPN will move on, won't they?
  9. I was surprised and pleased by how well the O-line played last night. I was expecting them to wear down in the 2nd half but they didn't and were still controlling the line of scrimmage even in obvious run situations. It also helped that both Frote and Jones were much quicker to the hole than Benson ever was. While I thought this was one of Turner's better play calling efforts, I'm still not sure whether he trusts Orton to pass on 3rd and long.
  10. Is there any concern about moving him to the corners when Fuld got demoted? Was that making room for Fuld or can't he handle CF? If the Cubs moved him out of CF to make room for Fuld that is really dumb- unless they already believe he can stick in CF.
  11. Me too. The only exception is if I get tickets to a Mets or Yankees game and decide to go see them in person, in which case I'll watch the whole game. I don't really care enough about other games, even rivalry ones, to sit and watch the whole thing. The other day I tried listening to the Brewers/ Mets game. I made it about 30 seconds before I changed back to Rob Dibble. That's how much I hate other teams.
  12. Is Joe Morgan a curse word? :D
  13. If the Brewers really are considering re signing Sabathia they might want to reconsider their "pitch him 'til his arm falls off" strategy.
  14. Joe Morgan wrote
  15. Good news! The Jerk Store called and they have plenty of Zambrano.
  16. Wouldn't you have to say though that this year's team was assembled partly witha different organizational philosophy on offense? The 03 & 04 teams were free swinging hacks that would have to look up what a walk was in the dictionary. For all it's regular season dominance, the 84 was also flawed in some important ways. As to the bolded part, every year is different. No roster is ever completely the same 2 years in a row. This will also be the first time the Cubs have made the playoffs in back to back years since divisional play (for that matter probably the 30s)
  17. The Tigers were a pretty good team on paper. How that work out? Not so well. Anyway, Im not to worried just yet. After the next 6 games, we'll see what happens. Still, after the amazing 4+months this team put together, it would be a shame to have to backdoor their way into the playoffs. If the Cubs win the WC they don't have to play the D-Backs in the 1st round. How's that for optimism. The Angels just went through the same type of slump. The Rays are currently in a similar slump. I would also remind everyone that the last time the Cubs slumped they followed that with a 4 game sweep of the Brewers. Also, before this slump started the Cubs had won 7 in a row.
  18. Is it safe to assume that Guzman will be limited to relief appearances and those of no more than 2 innings?
  19. He'd have to win all his remaining starts and Webb would have to lose all of his for that to happen. The people who vote for this are old fashioned and if they see 20 wins they won't look elsewhere.
  20. I'd love to hear Joe Morgan weigh in on the NL MVP talk. I'd like to hear make the case for Gary Sheffield. I'm kidding of course, Joe Morgan would never give his opinion on something baseball related. If the Phillies win the East and Utley has a decent Sept. he wins. Otherwise Pujols unless Lampwick* takes away some of his votes. *I know what I wrote.
  21. Thanks for the info. The bolded part; I feel the same way about 2004.
  22. I think what Piniella is going to do is more along these lines: Soriano Theriot Lee Ramirez Hoffpauir RF Soto Edmonds Derosa- or Fontenot if he wants another LH Pitcher
  23. I'm confident that Theriot can out-grit, out-short and out- white Eckstein.
  24. He has to agree to it, which is what is taking so long for it to happen. So he's trying to break Earl Cunningham's record for most seasons spent at High A ball?
  25. Matt Craig is a completely different hitter since he returned from the Spanish American War.
