  1. Are you kidding? I was happy, I'm glad the Sox lost. No, don't get me wrong, it's great that the Sox lost. But I always feel bad for pitchers who play their hearts out and put up incredible numbers... and then lose the game because their team can't hit. See: Roger Clemens
  2. You have to feel bad for the guy. He throws a no hitter into the 7th, and only gives up one hit the entire game. The problem is, that hit was a home run, and his team didn't score for him. How'd you like to get the loss on a complete game, one-hitter?
  3. Probably a dumb question, and it's probably already been answered on here, but did Walker and Sanders come off the DL yet?
  4. I don't view it as black and white as that. I mean, if some GM got crazy and offered the mother load, you would have to consider trading anybody. You'd be dumb to go out trying to sell him, but you should be willing to trade anybody for the right price, especially on a mediocre team. This isn't an "if it's not broke don't fix it" situation. No, I can agree with that. If some GM was willing to give you the moon, then you consider it. But the only way you do it is if it greatly helps the team. And trading away a triple crown threat rarely helps a team unless they can get one in return. Or two guys that can equal the production.
  5. Numbers wise this year: Lee = Pujols Ramirez > Edmonds Edmonds isn't having the year he had last year. They're in the same class, but I think Lee and Aram get the nod right now. ARod and Sheffield are good too. But again: Lee = Arod Ramirez > Sheffield Just based on this year's numbers.
  6. You know, we've all counted him out already, but watch out for Dontrelle Willis. 17 wins, and a 2.67 ERA this late in the season? He could challenge for it if he stays hot.
  7. Well, I understand the buy low sell high philosophy, you just have to know when to use it. I would have had no problem trading Sammy when he was good, because the team around him sucked so bad. Right now however, not only is DLee top 5 at his position, but ARam is top 5, and the Cubs have two elite level starting pitchers, and some other very talented arms. Ideally Hendry gets his head out of Dusty's busty and comes up with a plan to field a major league capable OF next year, and at least an average SS. I think it could be very smart to trade certain players coming off career years, however, it's a risky move in more ways than one. Trading certain players I can see. But I'll never agree with anyone that's willing to trade a triple crown and MVP candidate. Not to mention a gold glove fielder.
  8. Found somewhere that references the article. http://sportsdesigner.blogs.com/1/2004/week29/ (you have to scroll down. it's a blog)
  9. I'll never understand the "trade him while he's good" philosophy. Excuse me if I'm wrong, but isn't that when we'd want to KEEP him? We could trade DLee for a couple of guys who wouldn't put up his numbers. And if by some chance they did, people would be saying we need to trade that guy while he's hot.
  10. Does anyone know where the Tribune article I'm referring to is located? I'm at work and don't have time to dig it up right now. It's not the sports illustrated one you posted, although that is rather interesting.
  11. No, the article was based on a survey given to players. They said Wrigley was the best stadium to PLAY IN. They also said Jim Thome was the best teammate, Barry Bonds was the best player, and 75% of the guys in the league wouldn't mind having a gay teammate on their team. It was an article out of one of the Tribune's papers. It didn't mention how bad the clubhouses are though. Because we all know that Wrigley and Fenway are horrible for this. Also, every seat at Wrigley has its own cupholder. I've found that the seats at Wrigley offer the same amount of room as most other parks. And if you can't see the scoreboard from where you sit, then you're blind. I'll give you the restrooms, because those are horrible there. And the lack of a jumbotron is what makes Wrigley what it is. The scoreboard is literally a landmark. It achieved that status a few years ago. Even if they tear the stadium down, the scoreboard has to stay. Putting a jumbotron in Wrigley would make it look like Soldier Field. A classic looking stadium that they tried to make look futuristic. Now it looks like a spaceship crashed into Soldier Field. And call me crazy, but I don't go to Wrigley for the ammentities. I go to watch a baseball game. If I wanted to visit a "rain room", or see how hard I could throw using one of those carnival style games, I'd go to the south side.
  12. thank you for the recognition. I have been sitting back watching Aramis slowly put together a masterful season. Aramis is turning into a special player and 40 HR's and 120 RBI's would be a ridiculous year. But I have to admit, missing the playoffs is going to devastate me.... I think Aramis turned a corner when he came to the Cubs in 2003. I believe this is the type of production we can expect out of him from now on. He's arrived as one of the game's superstars. Plus, with the 1-2 combination of Aramis and DLee, that's trouble for most pitchers. The only 1-2 combo I see being better or even in the same class this season is Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz.
  13. Wow, he and his son can share a jail cell now.
  14. I'm pretty sure it was last year that Wrigley was voted favorite stadium to play in amongst the players. So a few bad apples who don't like it are definitely in the majority. And I've found that Wrigley is more comfortable than every other stadium I've been to. And there's really not a bad seat in the house except for the very few that are behind the pole.
  15. Eh, Baseball reference says the Cubs have the 5th highest all time winning percentage at .515. They may not win the titles, but I think they deserve the park. Oops, I forgot about that. I think the Cubs also have the record for the most wins in a season, but I could be wrong. This season just makes me so mad... Yeah, the way they've been playing lately, I can understand why they don't deserve it. They don't even deserve to play on a park district softball diamond this year.
  16. Eh, Baseball reference says the Cubs have the 5th highest all time winning percentage at .515. They may not win the titles, but I think they deserve the park.
  17. Morris threw behind Corey Patterson, not Kerry Wood. I was mistaken. From a Northwest Herald article:
  18. Oh, I won't argue that he gets results. But even when he was Jones' age he was being accused of purposely slowing down so he could make the highlight reel by diving. That's what gets me. I'm not going to argue that he's an amazing center fielder. The throwing out more runners part isn't really an issue I don't think. I don't even know how good Jones' arm is, but often times when a guy has a killer arm, he has less outfield assists than someone with a weaker arm because guys are less likely to run on a guy with a killer arm. They'll see him pull up with with ball, and then they'll just hold at third when they'd normally try to score. Guys will great arms sometimes get less chances to throw people out because of this.
  19. I believe his real name is Larry Wayne Jones. Not as bad as Billy Bob, or Cletus, but it's still a pretty "hickish" name.
  20. My problem with Edmonds is the hotdogging. He's been accused since he was on the Angels of slowing down on fly balls just so that he can dive and make the highlight reels. I can't stand that. That's my main reason for disliking him. The eyeliner stuff is all just icing on the hate cake. While he's a great centerfielder, I think he's a little overrated defensively because he turns routine fly balls into diving catches. And then ESPN hypes him up for it when guys like Andrew Jones would've been waiting under the ball. And like I said, I may have been wrong about the whole Morris throwing behind Wood thing. But I thought I heard somewhere that he did. If I'm wrong, then I'm apologize.
  21. Carlos will at least put the ball in play. Corey will strike out on either a pitch at his eyes, or a curve in the dirt.
  22. I don't know why you're so enamored with a place that's been home to so many horrors over the years. I'd trade Wrigley for a championship. In a second. I would too. But I also like to respect the history of the game. These cookie cutter stadiums they are building now are more like shopping malls than baseball stadiums. There are only three real stadiums left, and Steinbrenner has just made it so there will only be two left in a few years.
  23. And when Matt Morris said that he hoped the Astros would make the playoffs over us, it was right around the time that Prior said he didn't care if the Cubs were in the playoffs, as long as the Cardinals didn't make it. (or something to that effect) So both teams are to blame.
  24. I might be mistaken, but didn't Morris throw BEHIND Kerry Wood once? Granted I'm sure Kerry deserved it. I'm not saying Kerry doesn't throw up and in occasionally. But you have to look at how wild he can be sometimes before you judge him. The majority of his HBP's have been curve balls. You don't try to bean someone with a curve ball. And on a bunt, you always try to get it to the top, inside corner of the zone. That's how you get them to pop it up. And on a sacrifice bunt, the batter usually won't pull the bat back because the runner is ready to run right away. I don't think throwing up and in on Morris' bunt was all that bad. Both teams are at fault in the bean ball war. Yeah, Cub fans don't like Morris, but I actually hate Jim Edmonds more. Cards fans have good reason to dislike Zambrano. But he's been better lately. He hasn't lost his cool since I believe one of his first starts this year.
