  1. I think it's more impressive that he went on another long hitting streak the day after this streak ended. (Someone with knowledge of it please fill in the actual number of games) But unfortunately, I see the 56 game hit streak as the easiest one to break. Players like Ichiro have the definite potential to pull it off. It might not happen for a long time, but I see that as being easier than any of Cy Young's records, any of Rickey Henderson's records, etc. I don't see anyone coming close to 511 wins as long as they go with a five man rotation. Of course, with the way professional sports are going these days, the season might get extended somewhere down the line to maybe 200 games. This would mean more of an opportunity to pull it off, but it's still HIGHLY doubtful anyone will even come close. I personally believe that there will be only a handful of guys(5 or 6 tops) to even reach 300 wins throughout the rest of my lifetime. (I'm only 25)
  2. I always heard that the general rule was that if you were going to bean someone intentionally to prove a point, you go below the shoulders and above the knees. It's sad that there actually is a rule of thumb on this, but every pitcher I've heard claims it to be true.
  3. They threw up and in, pretty close to Lee's head. If that ball hits him in the wrong spot, it could be lights out. I don't blame him for losing his temper like that. In that moment, he wasn't a Cub and Young wasn't a Padre. Young was just some guy that attacked Lee. Lee was probably too mad to think in terms of teams. I'm sure he regrets it now and wishes it wouldn't have happened, but anger can do strange things to a man.
  4. I'm not sure that's true. I think Lee wanted to get at Young but, in watching the replay several times, I think he saw a Padres player/or coach running in at him and attempted to swerve to avoid him but the guy grabbed Lee from behind then Jacque and Barrett jumped on the guy's back and the pile went down... I don't think it's anything that will cost him extra time but I think that's what happened. I think that guy was Jake Peavy. I'd have to check the replay again though to be sure. Peavy was ejected, so it'd make sense.
  5. Yeah, the "bitch" is clear to read. But what I thought Young said, (I have Tivo, I watched him talk over and over) was something along the lines of, "i'll do it again." And at that exact moment Lee swings at him.
  6. I was thinking the same thing. You have a sweet camera. Well done.
  7. Greg Maddux made a hall of fame career out of getting guys to hit the ball mostly where he wanted them to... Luck or not, a no hitter is a no hitter. With any no hitter, you're going to get help from your defense. But I have to give credit where credit is due.
  8. I thought maybe it had something to do with protecting his stitches.
  9. Well, he's off to a stellar start after being thrown back into the closers role...
  10. Ha, I love that some of the players want Cuban here. But if they get their wish, he'd probably be the one to send them packing. So be careful what you wish for players. As a fan, that is the ultimate dream situation. I would love to have Cuban buy this team. But if he does, I'd expect him to come in here and clean house. So you would see a completely different product on the field in the future, and a completely different front office running that team.
  11. I hate him. What really made me mad this year was when the Cubs were playing the Sox. Any small play that went the Cubs way was because they just got lucky, but when the exact same thing happened to the Sox, it was because it was a "grinder play", or because the Sox play "grinder ball."
  12. Just because hes not in the dugout, it doesnt mean hes going to take the day off. Yes, but it also doesn't mean he's NOT going to take the day off.
  13. Meh, I'd have already spent 1/2 my 2007 salary on paper bags. Thank you. Now I have to clean my monitor because I spit my drink all over it laughing. :)
  14. To be honest, Lou is probably relieved right now. He has probably been looking for a way to get a few days off after the way this team has played. A few days off might be what everyone needs.
  15. Or he can always wear a mustache and sunglasses. Now that I would pay to see.
  16. Honestly, I think Lou wanted to give everybody something to talk about besides Barrett vs Z. Great point, and probably very true. Very smart move by Lou. I was thinking that too. Ozzie Guillen tries to do this a lot. Lou going on a rant might accomplish two things. One, it'd deflect attention away from Barret, Z, and the teams horrible play. And two, it might light a fire under his team if he does it correctly. Now if only he would've used the rosin bag like a grenade, then I'd be impressed.
  17. Both of these pitchers are on all 3 of my fantasy teams.... so I just know the score will end up being 10-9 since my team loves pissing me off.
  18. I haven't seen the lineups yet, but I would guess there is a chance Soriano sits this one out. If his hamstring isn't 100% yet, it wouldn't be a wise idea to throw him out on a wet outfield. That's if they play the game of course.
  19. So do I, but it has absolutely nothing to do with their music. http://imagecache2.allposters.com/images/pic/MMPH/254836~Mel-C-Posters.jpg
  20. I'm sorry to say, I think we may have already seen the last pitch out of Mark Prior in the major leagues. There is no doubt in my mind he'll fight to try to come back, but it is my belief that he is done. Such a shame too. He's just one very unlucky guy. :(
  21. Exactly, I had the same issue throughout my high school and college career. I had bad hamstrings. You can't change speeds with a hurt hamstring. You can only walk, and sometimes that is even painful. If Soriano himself thinks he'll miss 5-7 days, we can probably count on adding a few more to that total.
  22. Probably, but they wouldn't have said "day to day" if there was an idea that a DL trip would be necessary. The Cubs have been really cautious about diagnosing injuries and time off lately (primarily because they've been burned in the past). BJ Ryan went from day to day, to 15 day DL, to out 4-6 weeks very quickly. They need to see the results of the MRI tomorrow though before they can tell if he's going to need a lot of time off or not. I would guess it's not too bad, but I've been wrong before. COUGHmarkpriorCOUGH
  23. Post count inflater.
