  1. Yeah and most of these fans seem to like every other Chicago team too, just not the Bears. What, Ditka sh@t on someone's meatloaf? I don't get it. I have a unique set of teams myself (Cubs, Bears, Magic, Lightning), but it's not as if I have an aberration for one sport where I choose to root for the #1 rival to the city of teams I root for otherwise. I don't have a genuine problem with it, it's just odd. It's just Cubs and Packers for me. I don't care about basketball or Hockey.
  2. I'm hardly in the know at all about this, but in the opinion of the board, who do you see the Packers taking in the 1st round?
  3. God damn I love that movie. Opening Day is here, finally. Like another person in this thread, the high after the Packers Super Bowl win didn't make the wait quite as long, so I wasn't quite as jazzed for this as I have been in the past, but I'm still loving the hell out of baseball finally being back. If things go right, this team could be playing meaningful games well into September. If you pressed me on that, I'd say probably for the WC, but I wouldn't totally rule out the division. I think our pitching staff is pretty underrated by people who aren't Cubs fans and could be our saving grace this year. The offense has to pick up, though. At least we have a competent manager this year, which is something we haven't had in a long time. I'm excited. Go Cubs!
  4. Ah yes, good old Dustyball.
  5. Has anyone ever done that in back to back seasons?
  6. I don't hate him, necessarily, I hate his contract.
  7. That's Fred's job! Also-- the Pirates lineup kinda owns Demp.
  8. I got some pretty good value late in this draft last night: C: Soto 1B: Adam LaRoche 2B: Gordon Beckham SS: Hanley Ramirez 3B: Ryan Zimmerman OF: Jay Bruce OF: Brett Gardner OF: Chris Young UTL: Aramis Ramirez UTL: Mike Stanton BN: Carlos Quentin BN: Carlos Lee SP: Tommy Hanson SP: Roy Oswalt RP: Jonathan Broxton RP: John Axford P: Chris Carpenter P: Clay Bucholtz P: Ryan Dempster P: Tim Hudson BN: Fransisco Cordero BN: Ted Lilly BN: Aroldis Chapman
  9. From the article I posted, it didn't say anything about usage for anything other than concussions. If it's only limited to brain injuries now, I'm sure it would be modified in the coming years for the reasons you listed.
  10. Worth every penny, IMO. Thank you Mr. Hendry. Mike Quade so far is turning out to be everything I expected Lou to be when he got here, before it was completely obvious that he just didn't give a crap anymore. Under Quade it seems like the best players will play, regardless of contract or service time, and he won't take any crap from his players. That's how it ought to be. I look forward to his tenure.
  11. Not saying that, but was there anyone before that season started who thought the Giants had any chance of achieving what they did? Not many, as most were saying the same things you're saying about the Cubs now. They do have better pitching, but they weren't perfect last year. Lincecum had a pretty shaky regular season by his standards. My point is that you can win a World Series without a great offense. True. You can. But you need a Lincecum, Cain, Bumgartener, Sanchez, and a good bullpen. Ours is respectable and our rotation is pretty good, but the Giants have both better starters and a better pen than us.
  12. Just because it's appropriate. Another season is (almost) upon us. Let's go Cubs!
  13. It will go into effect on opening day. It's for concussions only, from what I understand. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=6270514
  14. Yeah that was pretty much my last rounds, too. I was like the Yankees and bought anyone I wanted.
  15. My auction strategy was all messed up though. I bid heavy early and was an active early bidder, then was pretty much inactive for a good hour or so (except for artificially driving up the price of some guys I knew would be in demand), then jumped on guys like Hudson, Z, Cuddyer etc at the end. I got each of those guys for a buck because everyone else was tapped out. But, i finished with money left over so that tells me I could have picked up another solid player or paid a little more for a superstar. But, live and learn. Let this be a lesson: Do some mock drafts.
  16. Standard Yahoo public league, 12 teams 5x5. I'm kinda "meh" on it. C: Geovany Soto 1B: Billy Butler 2B: Ben Zobrist 3B: David Wright SS: Starlin Castro OF: Carlos Gonzales OF: Shin Shoo Choo OF: Nick Swisher UTL: Jose Tabata UTL: Austin Jackson BN: James Loney BN: Michael Cuddyer SP: CC Sabathia SP: Jeremy Hellickson RP: Huston Street RP: John Axford P: Ryan Dempster P: Matt Garza P: Carlos Zambrano P: Aroldis Chapman BN: Drew Storen BN: Brett Myers Five Cubs. Me? A homer? Nah.
  17. I think the final 4 is the highest seed total in history at 26 (11+8+3+4). I think the old record is in 2001 when Wisconsin and North Carolina made the final four as 8 seeds along with 5 seeded Florida and 1 seed and eventual champion Michigan State.
  18. I don't care what anyone else thinks--- I think Butler/VCU in the final 4 is great. The only thing that could make it better is if one team would be on the other end of the bracket, they both win and play each other in the final. I'd love for 2 mid-majors to play in the NCAA final game just to see the reaction from everyone. And yeah, I agree that this doesn't feel quite as huge as George Mason a few years ago because George Mason beat some damn good teams to get there. Not that VCU didn't, but I think GM had tougher overall competition. Not to take anything away from VCU or even Butler-- they both absolutely deserve to be there and I love it.
  19. Silva was released this morning. Rangers wanted an actual piece or two for Young, not garbage, and we don't have money to make additions right now. If we have money to allegedly back up a Brinks truck into Albert Pujols's driveway next offseason, we have money to spend a few million here and there on some upgrades.
  20. Guillen and Silva would get along great. He'd either be Ozzie's favorite player ever, or they'd fight to the death.
  21. Great, now Silva's probably going to kneecap him. Seriously, though, I'm liking Quade more and more each day.
  22. This is the best part of all. Now release Koyie Hill and let's start the damn season. Well, the BEST part of all would be getting something for the sack of crap, but I can live with a release.
  23. From what? Insults on the internet? OH GOD, ANYTHING BUT THAT!! Get over yourself.
  24. Coming from you, this post is hilarious.
  25. I think it's just annoying. I don't blame them for banning it. It won't affect the game, but every time I see Boise State home game highlights I keep thinking "Damn, that's an ugly field."
