  1. Plenty of spots left. Come on, contact me. You know you want to. I have a some people from my 2 baseball leagues who are quite active and knowledgeable, so you're bound to have a good time. Email me! My inbox is lonely.
  2. Only one way to find out, isn't there?
  3. You are welcome. Hmm. Nice try. And this was in reference to you how? Thank you for playing. Haha. BANNED!! Now, now. He hasn't been banned for arguing with me. Fine, let me change that to PWNED!!
  4. TODD HOLLANDSWORTH (getting dusty to use Todd properly would be a start) But that's the problem. If Todd is on the roster he'll be misused. He's one of "Dusty's boys". For this team to do anything in 2006, you first have to start by taking Dusty's toys away. And Hollandsworth only has 3 career games at 1B. I was thinking of a little more experienced 1B man. branyan. he can play 3b too, which officially makes macias expendable since it appears as though his biggest asset is the fact that he's the only guy that can back up at 3b (though i'm sure neifi could do it). branyan would be a left handed pinch-hitter a left-handed complement to lee at first, a backup 3b and a fifth OFer. of course, i'm not so sure the cubs wouldn't rather fill all those spots with four crappy players instead of one decent one... Branyan would be OK as a backup, but I'd only agree to have him here if Dusty is gone. Dusty would overuse him. He's the perfect Dusty hitter (big power guy who doesn't walk much and strikes out a ton) so he'd be misused. eta: Happy 4,000th post to me!

  6. *sigh* To be an optimist again. I remember those days.
  7. I'd be ok with Giles/Pie/Murton. I just really have a good feeling about Murton and want to see him get his shot. He obviously won't get it under Dusty. But I think we'd be making a mistake if we just traded him or didn't let him get his chance. But then we'd be without a leadoff hitter. So then you'd have to go Murton/Lawton/Pie. But then you couldn't have Giles. Dammit, this makes my head hurt. Hendry had better make the right decision.
  8. Jim Edmonds!!!

  10. Dusty still won't let the kids play. Macias and Holly will get his total attention. Those guys have to have embarrassing pictures of Dusty with a pony or something. That's the only way I can see them getting as much playing time as they have been.
  11. I'd say the biggest bench hole is someone who can play 1st (and one other position, maybe OF, because you don't want just a strict backup 1Bman) to back up Lee so he doesn't crap out in September.
  12. No team in MLB has stolen fewer bases than the Oakland A's. The Cubs have stolen twice as many bases as the A's. The A's have 14 sacrifice bunts on the year. The Cubs have 48. The Cubs have more than three times as many sac bunts as the A's. The A's do not play small ball. They do walk. Oakland ranks 7th in bases on balls. The Cubs rank 27th. I agree that the Cubs should play like Oakland. We should not be bunting in the third inning (which we have done this season). We should not be attempting steals unless we have a 75% chance of success. We should sign players with better plate discipline. I was at a Cubs-Reds game in 2002 and Don Baylor called for a bunt on the SECOND BATTER OF THE GAME!!
  13. How does Ronny get to be the starting SS next year? I think he's sunk if one or both of the following happen: (1) Hendry re-signs Nomar. (I'm hoping that doesn't happen, actually. I'm thinking lately that Nomar is past his prime and thrives exclusively in the AL.); or (2) Baker and/or Hendry get fired. If I see Baker in the dugout and Neifi, Macias, or some other scrub in the middle IF next year (assuming decent players are healthy), I'm forming a militia to do some housecleaning. I think Nomar is worth one last shot. Give him a one-year deal. If he gets injured or doesn't cut it, he's gone. Cedeno should be the backup for him and Walker. And we NEED NEED NEED to sign a guy who can play 1st to give Lee a day off every now and then.
  14. Hell, I'm 24 and I'm quite doubtful that I'll ever see them win a World Series. They may luck into one, but they sure as hell won't win it.
  15. No American Pie is one of the best songs ever. Now, if you were talking about Madona's version of it  , i would agree with you. Agreed. Don't be rippin on the Don McLean version.
  16. An 0-16 streak will only set him back as long as Baker's in charge. I recall a certain HOF 2B that started 1-23..... I'm sure a lot of guys who never made it for long had a 1-23 stretch. Did DuBois have one of those? For the record, Murton looks good. I just want to see what he does over a couple hundred at bats versus both lefties and righties. With Burnitz looking awful, I hope Murton gets a shot in the St. Louis series. Time to put him in the deep end of the pool. Oh, trust me, I'm not saying that just because Ryno weathered a bad start that Murton can. Dubois, I'm sure, had a long streak like that. However, given where we are in the standings, now is the perfect time to see exactly what kind of player Murton could be, especially considering that there's no clear cut alternative that's better.. Exactly. No pressure, we're out of it anyway. Let's see what the kid can do. But that would mean, with Corey coming back, in order for Murton to play Lawton or Burntiz would have to sit. Dusty wouldn't sit a vet liek Burnitz, and Lawton isn't sitting, so Murton will rot on the bench for the rest of the year.
  17. I'd rather have DFA'ed Neifi as he's back to his old crappy self, but that's not happening as long as Dusty is managing. Neifi isn't signed past this year, correct?
  18. The right thing to do would be to ship Cedeno or Murton back to AAA for some playing time, which means they won't do that. Cedeno was sent down for Corey...per ESPN webpage. Yep. Patterson up. Cedeno down. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/transactions May as well. Cedeno wasn't going to get any playing time with Nomar back.
  19. I think it's pretty speculative for Stone to say the Red Sox "didn't like" Murton. Perhaps they just did what they felt they needed to do to achieve a short-term goal: finishing a huge deal that put pieces in place that were considered necessary to contend for a World Series. And that short-term goal worked out pretty well. I like Murton for the future because he's so outside the mold of the "typical" Cubs hitter. I could actually see him being sort of Grace-esque in the future at the plate; contact hitter for average, good amount of walks, lots of doubles, power numbers are gravy. Maybe (?) we'll find out some day for sure. You'll probably never know exactly what the Red Sox thought about Murton for sure. He's not Babe Ruth or anything, but he has a nice approach at the plate and he swings at good pitches. I've enjoyed watching him, although it's been in very small samples. I would have absolutely no problem whatsoever if Matt Murton turned into a Mark Grace type hitter.
  20. They were talking about this on the Score earlier, and an interesting point was raised. I'm not quite sure how to take it, I'll just throw it out there and respond later. Corey really wasn't hitting until they DL'ed Hairston and didn't call him back up. Then he started having multiple hit-games (I think he had like 4 rbi tonight) and being the player we all knew he could be. Is that a coincidece, or maybe a strike against his work ethic? Anyway, if he's hitting I'm glad he's getting called back up. But now Murton gets pushed further out, unless Burnitz gets benched (not freaking likely).
  21. They certainly look flat. I said it the other day: I think the Cubs could benifit from a bench clearing brawl.... somehow i dont think it will help Well, maybe Macias, Hollandsworth, and Neifi would all pull hamstrings or something and they'd get shut down the rest of the year.
  22. I'll give you the last 2, but I happen to like interleague play. I know a lot of people like interleague play. I just never got into it. I think if interleague play is going to happen, then every team in each league should play each other - 6 games against each team in the other league and then the rest against your own league...maybe more in your own division. I also really don't like that the AL has less teams and that one division can have only 4 teams while another division can have 6. Even it out and then play. Just my opinion. :D I'd be up for playing every team in a 3-game set. And bring back the balanced schedule.
  23. Then your problem is with the seeding of the playoffs, not necessarily the WC itself.
  24. How much does Trib stock trade for? And I don't think this would work. Even if you did get a bunch of NSBB'ers together, is there ANY issue that we agree 100% on? I don't think there is. We're not 100% in agreement on firing Dusty, roster moves, transactions, how money should be spent, etc. And even if you had a 100% "Fire Dusty" contingent, if you wanted to branch out on other issues, you'd be split on those.
