  1. Walker has been very good at 2B, and has a very cheap option for next year. I wouldn't worry about 2B for next year unless it comes in conjunction with another upgrade. I agree. And again, I'm baffled as to why everyone is itching to get rid of Walker.
  2. I've never understood that argument, really. What do you mean by "Production?" Home runs? RBI? I think the RBI can be influenced more by where he hits in the lineup. If you bat him 6th he'll have more chances than if he hits leadoff or 2nd. And all runs count the same. A run driven in by your centerfielder doesn't count any more or less than one driven in by your catcher or first baseman or shortstop. And with the struggles at the plate we've had for the last 3 plus years, don't you think you'd want to get away from the high K, high power, low OBP guys? Lee and Ramirez and Nomar are fine. But you don't need any more guys to hit 40 home runs if you have guys who hit 20-30 with higher OBPs. This organization needs a whole new offensive philosophy when it comes to signing free agent hitters. I'd be just fine in taking a hit on team home runs on the corner OF positions if it means we have have higher OBP's and smarter hitting.
  3. My thoughts too. maddux up 2 and 3. so you fail you got 1 and 3 with 2 outs and still got a chance to score a run. Because that would make sense, and logic is beyond the grasp of Dusty Baker.
  4. WE TIED THE GAME WITH A HIT? WTF??? Ok, this is the only possible scenario... The Cubs have been kidnapped by Aliens, and were replaced by silicon-based life forms who have taken the shape of the current Cubs team.
  5. here's the Walker interview synopsis Preach it, Todd. Say the things that everyone else on the team is afraid to say! Yeah, and good luck wherever you wind up next year... cause I doubt it's in Chicago. :( Yeah. We know what happened to the last 2 guys who spoke the truth about the Cubs. Nice knowing you, Todd. Hope you find success wherever you go. OMGWTF A LEADOFF WALK!!!!
  6. I think May was the last time that happened.
  7. WAIT, WAS THAT A 1-2-3 INNING??? Who are these guys, and what have they done with the Cubs?

  9. Truthfully speaking he started slumping last year towards the end as well. At this point its not a stretch to think he can finish below .300. If he would get a g-d day off every now and then I'm sure he'd be rested.
  10. MY HEART!! MY HEART!! GACK!! *falls over*
  11. Exactly. I absolutely love the Cubs. But I am openly rooting against Neifi now. Every hit = one more start that Nomar or Walker doesn't get. Especially considering Walker's pissy interview earlier. Fill me in. I didn't hear it.
  12. This game isn't over yet....... 2-0? It might as well be with the way these losers have been playing. Give it time. It'll be 6-0 before you know it.
  13. Kind of reminds me of that guy a few years back who was a Giants fan and put his "fanship" up for sale to the highest bidder once the team got rid of Matt Williams and such. I think he's an Indians fan now. Anyone else remember that?
  14. Does Dusty really have Macias 1st and Neifi 2nd? And he still thinks we're in it. Dear God.
  15. Mark Grace wasn't really a power hitter either. I think he did ok for us. It doesn't matter if he doesn't hit 30+ home runs. There are other guys on this team to pick up the power slack. And I'd rather have a guy with a high OBP than a guy who will hit a lot of homers. Murton is just fine.
  16. I'm sure glad I'll miss most of the rest of this train wreck of a season, engineered by none other than one, Dusty Baker. It's become hysterical at this point. Well, if you're gonna suck, you might as well go all-out.
  17. I'm sure glad I'll miss most of the rest of this train wreck of a season, engineered by none other than one, Dusty Baker. It's become hysterical at this point. It has. I'm slowly easing into the "funny" part. Teams really ought to be fined by the GM's if they would lose a series to the Cubs at this point. I'm honestly thinking a good college team could beat the Cubs 2 of 3 at this point. im also going into the funny part...its almost a joke as to wonder what the "great" front office is going to do next. Does anyone else think Hendry has gotten ahold of his own "Dusty Dice" that he uses to make his decisions? If not that, then some very powerful illegal narcotics.

  19. Yes, I'll always remember where I was when John Koronka, savior of the 2005 season, was recalled from AAA Iowa and led the Cubs to a World Series Championship. Oh, wait, that won't happen. I really need to stop drinking.
  20. If I didn't have such man-love for Nomar I'd agree with you. I'd say give him one more year and he's gone regardless, unless he just is otherworldly next year. You'll probably get 130 games out of him at the max, so that would be 30 starts for Cedeno at the least, and he can spell Walker too, so that's maybe another 15-20 at the minimum, with him being the starter should either one go on the DL. But then Cedeno should be the starting shortstop in 2007 regardless. Murton should be starting in left (starting in right if we sign Giles), trade Corey, have Lawton in center.
  21. But you can't NOT fire him, even if it would have a minimal effect. You need to start building for next year and getting a fresh start for 2006.
  22. Are you listening, Jim Hendry? This man knows what he's talking about. I'm torn on Giles - he's definitely past his prime and it would just feel too much like picking up one of those guys who ends his career playing below average baseball, but if you can sign him to a short term contract that isn't too excessive I guess I'd do it. I would have no problem with Burnett, but I honestly believe since it's such a thin free agent market and there are so many teams with money who will be looking to bolster their pitching that we'd end up severely overpaying for him - I just have to believe some team out there will "sign him at all costs" and make him rich and I don't know that I want that to be the Cubs. I'd be ok with a 2-year deal for Giles. No more than 3, though.
  23. I agree. If you're going to go down, go down in flames.
