  1. It's not that hard to improve on what we did last year, Rocket. Do you remember the countless AB's where there were RISP, and whoever was up there would get anxious and swing at the first pitch and hit into a double play? All the friggin time? i don't think getting jacque jones is the way to remedy that Nor do I. But you said that clutch hitting was mainly luck. My point was had we been more patient at those times last year, we'd have scored more runs.

  3. I think the whole "Walker is bad with the glove" thing snowballed. First it seemed to be "Eh, he's okay. He's no Sandberg, though." Then it was "He could stand to be better" Then it was "Boy, he's really bad over there" and finally now it seems to be "My God, he's quite possibly the worst defensive player in the history of baseball." Ok, I'm exaggerating, but I think people are making FAR too much of a deal over his percieved lack of defense. They don't seem to realize that what he brings to the table with his bat far outwieghs his shortcomings in the field. Our best chance to win is with Walker at 2nd, not Neifi or Hairston. Oh, and apparently he has a "bad attitude." You know, because when the Cubs are in the middle of losing 9 of 11 and a reporter asks him "What do you think of the Cubs play recently?" he's not supposed to say "Well, right now we suck." Sorry, I'm in a sarcastic mood tonight.
  4. I still don't see why they're so itching to trade Walker in the first place.
  5. Well, clutch hitting WAS a big issue last year, I'll grant him that.
  6. I don't even know if I should waste my time arguing anymore. There is just no getting through to people.
  7. IF the team is sold I fear the games moving off of WGN and onto some regional radio station that doesn't have nearly the broadcast range WGN does.
  8. And all by May 1 It'll all be meaningless if we tank in April. What was Houston's record at the end of April in 2005? They're the exception, not the rule.

  10. And to think when Hendry was pursuing Barrett, many people were against the move bringing him here. At least on the ESPN boards, they were.
  11. I don't know about Zambo. Wasn't he in the system before Hendry came along?
  12. They probably want a baseball-only facility, and want to make upgrades to the ballpark at their will, and not have to haggle with the Redskins to do it. Erik.... the Redskins moved out of RFK a few years back. Fine. Just crap all over everything I say. See if I care. :p My original point stands, though. They probably want a ballpark they can customize to their standards and upgrade/change without having to consult another franchise.
  13. I thought Hill played some 3B also? I'd rather see him backing up Ramirez than Mabry. Gary Gaetti he is not. How ironic would that be? Hill backing up Ramirez... Man I love it when Hendry fleeces other teams. If only he could do it more often....

  15. To quote Brokeback Mountian: "I wish I knew how to quit you."
  16. Because the Cubs have been completely healthy without an injury thread. Oh wait.....
  17. Here's the Yahoo article on it... http://news.yahoo.com/s/nm/20060314/us_nm/baseball_washington_dc
  18. Start the 2010 WBC about a month after the World Series ends.
  19. I still think if we can have a healthy Prior to start the season and a healthy Wood and Miller to complete the rotation in May that we will be a strong contender this season. We just can't tank in April, though. I really hope Kerry comes back soon, and he doesn't make a single DL visit this year. I'd like to see him as a Cub for many more years. I fell in love with him after the 20k game and I don't think that'll ever go away.
  20. Just what we need---another deal where we give up a reasonably productive player and pay him to play for another team. I got a better idea, why don't we keep them and pay them to play for the Cubs. Because it makes sense, that's why.
  21. It was stupid to want to trade him anyway. Walker is the best option we have at 2nd. He maybe costs us, what, 7-8 runs per year with his glove, tops? He gives us far more than that with his bat. It's stupid to trade him. Not everyone is going to be Ryne Sandberg incarnate with the glove. On a scale of 1-10, with 10 being best, Walker is, at absolute worst, a 4.5 with his glove. Not enough to justify getting rid of the offensive production. I'd rather have a good bat and an average glove than an average bat and a good glove. A few of those guys are nice if you can afford the spot in the lineup, but we can't.
  22. I really did want to join, but I won't be able to. I'll miss the draft completely. :(
  23. Any time the question is "Could Dusty possibly be this dumb?" the answer is always "yes".
  24. People are going to wait for the smoking gun (i.e. a positive test) before doing much about it. I doubt this article changes people's minds one way or the other, although it is very detailed and the sources cited are big ones.
