  1. What did Shani do?
  2. That's what she gets for showboating. Every coach in America should show that to his/her athletes as an example of why rubbing it in is bad.
  3. I thought their tickets didn't go on sale until the 25th? Yeah. What gives?
  4. Which raises a good question, "When does Wood transition from a starter to a power closer?" Which raises another question: When will we have 500 threads about Kerry converting from starter to closer?
  5. Gene Wojecheaowaodiajdslski of ESPN.com wrote this Sammy article, in which he rips on Sammy for, among other things, "not taking a chance." the last sentences in the article are... So, by that logic, all players who retire because they feel they can't perform at the level they once did are cowards for "not taking that chance." http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&id=2333277 It's really easy to take shots at him now that he's washed up. Note how very few if any people were writing these articles when Sammy was among baseballs' elite. It really takes a big man to kick someone when they're down, and that's exactly what everyone in the media is doing right now. Having a bad day? Write an article about how Sammy's a jerk. Get into a fight with the wife? Tell people for the 3000th time that Sammy had a corked bat! Boss yell at you? Boy, is that Sosa ever a jerk! Give it a rest, boys. Don't say anything about him that you wouldn't say directly to his face.
  6. Big man can kick a guy when he's down. Where was everyone saying this when Sammy was still at the top of his game? There weren't too many people writing scathing articles about him then, were there? Jackasses.
  7. I disagree. If we're going to get Tejada, i think now is the time to do it. I fell that players usually cost more at the trade deadline than they do before the season begins, and it will cost us more in July than it would today. Think of it this way: if we play Cedeno and he plays poorly, then we have a clear need for an upgrade at SS. That means we should be willing to pay more for Tejada, and the O's would be able to get more out of us. I wouldn't be wholly opposed to it if the price was right, but as soon as the Orioles GM asks for Prior or Z, I'd hang up the phone.
  8. Farewell, Sammy. I knew this day would come, and that it would be sooner rather than later. I am truly sorry that things ended in Chicago the way they did. I, for one, was absolutely disgusted by the way people treated you on the way out, when just one year earlier they were lauding you as the king of the city. I will always cherish the memories. I liked you as a relatively skinny player in the mid 90's when you were putting up 30-30 years. I grew to adore you in 1998, and, unlike some, I haven't lost that love. Thank you, Sammy, for all the memories. I look forward to one day telling my kids stories about your playing days. I just hope I can one day enjoy baseball again as much as I did during the magical Summer of '98.
  9. Between this and Z losing "at least" 15 pounds, I think the rotation might be well-off this season. Possibly. You gotta wonder how long Wood will be out, and if Prior can avoid the bad luck he's ran into the past few seasons.
  10. I'd rather have Craig Wilson than Marquis Grissom anyday.
  11. Milo is a miserable bastard. My short-lived October truce with Houston is over. The Milo situation doesn't make me hate the Astros any more or less.
  12. Ugh, I don't plan to watch any of the snowboarding. I have no idea why, but it bothers the hell out of me that this an Olympic event.

  14. Ah, the cork incident. Let me ask you a question. Do you have a problem with Gaylord Perry being in the HOF? Because Perry was busted (on more than one occasion, IIRC) for throwing a spitball. It was rumored he threw it much of, if not all of, his career. Yet nobody ever seems to remember that. He got in no problem, as I recall. This isn't excusing what Sammy did, however. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying Sammy shouldn't get in ever, I am just saying that I think he should have to wait a year because of that incident. I've heard much evidence to suggest that the only help corking your bat gives you is in your head. Not excusing it, but just an interesting point. Yeah. I heard it weakens the bat and it has less mass, therefore its more prone to breaking. And the effect of cork is minimal if anything.

  18. I'm not thrilled about it either, but the last 2 seasons the difference between the Cubs and Cardinals has been far more than that interleague series.
  19. Yes. I may be interested. May being the key word.
  20. I'm watching Curling. I need help.
  21. I'm going to buy it the first day it came out. Can you believe Friday will be the 8-year anniversary of his death? I can't believe he's been gone that long. What I wouldn't give for just one more game called by Harry Caray and Steve Stone.
  22. I hope Walker is on this team opening day. He's by far the best 2B option we have. But, that makes me think Neifi will start at SS if Walker starts and 2B.
  23. So long, Sammy. At least I'll miss you. And I'll always cherish the ball you signed for me in 2000 in Milwaukee. I hope to give it to my future son one day. Thank you for everything. It's a shame that some of your prime years were surrounded by such horrid teams.
  24. You know who we're not going to get come hell or high water? Adam Dunn.
  25. I think it would be far more logical to contract a team who has never been .500 in it's history than it would to contract one of baseball's oldest franchises (The Twins are the former Washington Senators, an inagural AL franchise established in 1901) and a 2-time World Serires champion in the Marlins. That would be a heck of a lot of history you'd be erasing.
