  1. I never really saw the "M" in that one. I still don't really think it looks much like an M. Oh, wait. I kinda see it. Sorta.
  2. Bruce should have a bodyguard. Maybe Modzilla. I hear Mod can breathe fire and fly.
  3. Dear Jim, If you turn this into Maddux II I will personally hunt you down and make you pay for it.
  4. If none of the other questions get asked, I want this one to. It would be fun to hear him dodge and tiptoe around the question.
  5. I'm not sure what this means. I think he means that some people are being a little over dramatic. Yes, you guys are instantly thinking that they are going to have a spot on the main roster which isn't the case. Easy the reins on the saddle a little bit. Nothing wrong with Restovich or Ojeda playing in Iowa and Grissom sitting on the pine in Chicago and batting against lefties. who assumed that? No one did, but it seems like some of them are assuming the worst with all these "bad" players on the roster. Can you blame us? Honestly. Can you blame Cub fans for thinking the worst when old and/or crappy players who have no business near this team are signed?
  6. Augie should not be on a major league roster. He's Rey Ordonez without the bat. He's not on the major league roster. Last year the Cubs did the same thing by signing Cody Ransom (a guy who was actually coached by Baker in SF, I think) and he never saw the major league roster once. But my point is this. I know he was signed to a minors contract. He has ML experience, and he can "catch the ball." He was signed to a minor league contract with the possibility of making the big club again one day. He shouldn't even have that chance. That spot should be for some up-and-coming kid, not Augie "0-for-22" Ojeda. I admire his heart and his drive. I like the effort he gives. But, all the heart in the world means nothing if you don't have any talent. He has none.

  8. Could you possibly sell Rusch instead of Williams? For some reason I'm pretty high on Jerome.
  9. I'm not sure what this means. I think he means that some people are being a little over dramatic. Is there such a thing as being over dramatic with this team?
  10. Augie [expletive] Ojeda. Somehow I knew I hadn't heard the last of him. He can catch the ball, though.
  11. Merry Christmas, Dusty. You got another toy. In theory, Grissom wouldn't be terrible. But, with Dusty Baker running this team, you know for a fact he's going to get far more playing time than he should.
  12. I think it really is sickening the way that people threw him under the bus after one lousy 2004 season. Yes, he had a bad year. But, that should not have offset how many great years he gave us. I think it was shameful how the organization treated him on the way out. One bad season should not erase the many, many great ones he had for us. I don't think many folks "threw under the bus" b/c he did not play well in 04'. At least that's not why I was (am) upset with him (see above). Whatever reasons you dislike him, I respect. However, I think the vast majority of Cub fans turned on Sammy during the 2004 season. He was struggling, got moved down in the order, stood 10 feet off the plate, had a miniscule batting average, and got booed at home. Yes, booed. After all he did for this team and the fans, one bad year and they booed the hell out of him. The fact that he walked out during the final game in 2004 was just the icing on the cake for a lot of folks. Sammy started to get his detractors in 2003, but it seemed like the more he struggled at the plate, the more people forgot about past years and only focused on the "right now."

  14. 1) You really don't have to win. Fans will still show up.
  15. Some of my greatest baseball memories are Sammy-related. I miss him, and I'll think back on his Cubs career fondly.
  16. What's with almost no New Year's Day bowls this year? And why is the Rose Parade moved to tomorrow?
  17. Nope. Nope - really? Perez would be a solid pickup. He can spell Lee, and take some of the starts from JJ in RF against lefty pitching. 868 career OPS against lefties...yeah I'll take that please. EDIT: I'd be interested to hear from some of the Cards fans on the board and their take on Perez -- or if anyone knows what happened in 2001 (missed entire year) and 2002 (sub-par year). I saw the LHP split too...still nope...for now. I like Perez over Grissom, but would rather see how things play out for now. I'll risk Perez not being around in a month...and then only take him cheap and short! What makes you think there is a possibility of Neifi not being here in a month?
  18. Erik's quote was "Nothing good can come from having Marquis Grissom on this team. Nothing" A top character guy is something, isn't it? I highly respect the opinion of Mr. Miles, and I think he's one of the more valuable posters on this community. However, he and I must agree to disagree on this one. Grissom may be a good clubhouse guy. If Bruce says it, I believe it (kind of like Cronkite back in the day). However, I think that the extreme possibility of misuse by Dusty would greratly outweigh any potential good that Grissom could bring to the clubhouse. We had a bunch of "good chemistry" guys last year. It didn't work out that well. Once again, there is nothing here on which to agree or disagree. I'm not advocating Grissom's signing. I'm just pointing out what I know about the guy and what I've been told. On another subject, somebody mentioned Murton above. He's one of the most inquisitive young players on the team. One guy he listens to a lot: Maddux. Too bad Murton doesn't pitch, too. I see that now. It helps if I read your prior postings. I do appreciate your input on Grissom though, although it scares me because Hendry likes good clubhouse guys (among other things), and I know Dusty would love to have the "veteran presence" in the clubhouse. Those two things lead me to believe there is a very good possibility of Grissom being signed.

We had a bunch of "good chemistry" guys last year. It didn't work out that well. I disagree. Given Grissom's age, I don't think Dusty can misuse him badly. And if Grissom takes 75 ABs against LHP away from Jacque Jones, then Grissom will have earned his salary. I don't mind him taking AB's away from Jones. It's taking AB's and playing time away from Murton that I fear. And we all are aware of Dusty's fondness for aging vets. Grissom fits the mold perfectly.

  21. Any time you have to ask "Is Dusty dumb enough", the answer is almost always "yes".
  22. Nothing good can come from having Marquis Grissom on this team. Nothing.
  23. Not a bad pick. He may turn out to be halfway decent.
  24. Sabremetrics are based on numbers. Numbers do not discriminate. If a white guy and a black guy and a hispanic guy all hit 30 home runs in a season, it counts exactly the same for all of them. The numbers may be skewed a bit due to some coincidence in today's game, but it's not meant to favor one race of players over any other.
