  1. I think that would be the equivalent of NSBB civil war.
  2. On some level I am worried that he'll try something desperate to save his butt.
  3. Yeah, if they knew he would be a star then trading for Beckett was incredibly short-sighted. They would have much rather had Hanley than Beckett the last 6 years, and that isn't even accounting for the money they would have saved to use on another pitcher. I was under the impression that Hanley was widely considered to be a star in the making at the time of the trade. Maybe they didn't think he'd be as good as he ending up being so soon, but he was star material nonetheless. Yeah, I think he was like a top 10 prospect in baseball at the time.
  4. No, but they have a ton of money coming off the books next year and can fill holes via FA. If you can get something for Rammy right now, go for it. Or if someone is dumb enough to eat most of Soriano's contract, do it in a heartbeat. Re-stock the farm and sign who you need.
  5. How are those kids doing that we got in return for Lilly?
  6. Seriously, I hope they just blow the damn thing up and get as much good young talent as they can. Castro is untouchable, don't trade Soto or Marmol (edit: or Garza) unless you get the moon in return, but everyone else can be had. There's no need to try to compete this season when nothing is going to happen. Prepare for the future. Again.
  7. I think if Pena stays hot for a few weeks we could get a decent prospect or two for him. LH power is always in demand.
  8. Rumors are flying that a Lamar Odom and Luke Walton to Philly for Iguodala (sp) trade is being discussed.
  9. Mickey Mantle having some fun with the Yankees PR department (NSFW) http://graphics2.snopes.com/risque/graphics/mantle.pdf
  10. You knew it was just a matter of time before they put games all year long on their network to force people to pay for it.
  11. I'd still float a few offers out there to see if FLA bites-- buy low and all. But I very much doubt they trade him.
  12. I always thought it was a given that the grandstands would have to be dismantled to pull off any kind of substantial renovation. Close the park for a year or two, tear up everything in foul territory, and set the park up for another 100 years. What's so hard about this? Edit for link: http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/columns/story?columnist=stark_jayson&page=rumblings110621 There's nothing about this that can't be done. The only thing would be finding a place to play 81 "home" dates for the Cubs for the duration of the renovation. Perhaps a split between Milwaukee and The Cell? Absolute worst case, build a new stadium in Wrigleyville, but make it look as much like old Wrigley as possible, at least on the field.
  13. Catcher is probably the hardest position to find quality offensive production, and we get that (usually) out of Soto. I wouldn't trade him away unless some team offered us a deal we'd be stupid to turn down. And he's young and cheap. There's no reason to actively pursue a trade.
  14. I always thought that the concept of a player/manager was pretty cool. I'm too young to really remember Rose doing it.
  15. Supporting a good cause. Good for them. But when does it get better to be a Cubs fan?
  16. He's still a kid compared to the average Florida resident.
  17. It took me a while before I could be over Game 6. This thread is making me regress.
  18. Honestly I don't think he catches it. Even if he puts it in his glove, it would have been a snow-cone catch and I think the ball pops loose after his glove hits the railing on the way back down.
  19. Yeah. The guy got a raw deal, but it's a pretty unique story in the way everything played out. About the only other thing I can think of in baseball that's similar is the kid who screwed over the Orioles with the home run catch. That kid was responsible for a key homerun in a playoff game. Bartman interfered with a ball in foul play that Moises Alou, despite his temper tantrum, probably wasn't going to catch. If Alex Gonzalez doesn't choke, Bartman is a non story. Yet somehow nobody remembers Gonzalez. I do. If I ever see Alex Gonzalez cross the street in front of my car, I'll probably brake, but only before giving serious consideration to flooring the gas.
  20. Yes, but times change. Wouldn't you find it weird to see some guy in the bleachers in a suit and brand new bowler hat cheering his ass off just like the dude in t-shirt and shorts next to him?
  21. Didn't we beat him once or twice after he got traded to the Brewers?
  22. If we can get a good package for him, I'd say do it, but don't move him just to move him. As Sulley said in the Cubs Discussions forum, there are teams out there that could realistically overpay for a 30-year-old career starting pitcher who has never posted an ERA above 4 in a full season. If one of those teams offers a good deal, take it.
  23. I'd post my opinion, but this is a family board.
  24. Yes, you're the only one who prefers the team start playing terribly again rather than play out of their minds and get back in the race. Yes, but which one is more realistic?
