  1. It's like the Superstar rule in the NBA regarding fouls.
  2. I don't think any of us expected this from Davis. Great performance.
  3. haha Doug Davis is trending on Twitter.
  4. Soriano gave that one a ride. Caught with the LF's back against the ivy.
  5. I'll take an ugly hit over a pretty out 10 times out of 10.
  6. I could take him or leave him. For the right price he could be a useful piece, but he'd have to take a paycut.
  7. Castro! Well I'll be damned. Granderson looked bad on that one.
  8. Its far better when you imagine it being read with a British accent. I imagined it as being read by Daniel-Day Lewis's character in "There Will be Blood."
  9. We're most likely going to get slaughtered by the Yankees.
  10. Here's a rather amusing letter from 1898, addressing foul language by ballplayers when on the field. NSFW, due to some obscene phrases (no offensive pictures, though) http://www.lettersofnote.com/2011/06/special-instructions-to-players.html
  11. The 2003 series was awesome: Clemens going for win #300 vs. Wood, some scrub getting picked off 1st base to end the game, a bunch of other stuff I'm forgetting but I'm sure was also awesome... Although there was that scary incident with Hee Seop Choi needing to be taken off the field via ambulance. I can't recall a play stoppage due to an injury that lasted that long before or since. It seemed like a good half hour or so. Also, with Jeter's injury we miss out on history as there would have been a very good chance he could have gotten his 3,000th hit at Wrigley.
  12. Expanding the DH is an interesting topic. I've read several places this season that more players than not HATE to DH and would rather play the field as well. That makes me cautiously optimistic that the damn thing will be gone within my lifetime. Players are idiots. There is no chance of the DH being gone in your lifetime. There is an infinitely higher chance that it's adopted by the NL. Why exactly are the players idiots for wanting to play the field as well? GM's are more willing to pay for a guy who can hit 20 HR's and also play the field than a guy who hits 30 HR's and can only DH. The first player is seen as more versatile. Read the article on Adam Dunn a few weeks ago in SI.

  14. He'll be joining the very exclusive "Two no-hitters in one season" club if he pulls it off. Only what, like 6 or 7 other guys?
  15. We all know what that means. Well, knowing Hendry, he probably actually DOES think Quade is doing a good job. http://sports.espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/news/story?id=6658217
  16. Exactly. This is a lost season already and the sooner it happens, the better.
  17. Who cares about fundamentals? They don't even give a crap anymore.
  18. Haha they almost fucked up the rundown.
  19. What is it with Kerry and blisters that never heal?
  20. Let's see..pretty easy...I expect a middle reliever to not put men on base and not give up runs. As of today, Wood 'the thrower': WHIP 1.38 192 for all relievers .336 OBA 195 for all relievers .419 SLG 244 for all relievers .250 WPCT 168 of 174 relievers with a record It's just the middle of June and time for him to go on the DL. What a warrior. So you spew a bunch of stats that, while correct, don't answer the question... What does a reliever's win-loss record have to do with anything? Say Wood gives up 2 runs and the opponent ties the game, the Cubs score a run next inning while he's still the pitcher of record and hang on to win. He therefore earned a win but had a terrible performance. Is that an accurate measurement?
