  1. It's probably a good thing Harry is no longer announcing. The past 10 years of this team probably would have killed him, anyway. He'd have had to have been friggin Superman not to keel over dead after Game 6. But yeah, I'd give many of my worldly possessions just to hear Harry and Steve in the booth for one last game on WGN.
  2. He should have dropped his appeal during like the Washington series when we didn't need him that much.
  3. That's two classic games the Cubs and Rockies have played. Three if you want to count the one where the Rockies became one of the only teams in history to score in every inning of a game against us. I'll be telling my grandkids about that Cubs/Rockies game in 2001 where Gutierrez scored the winning run on that crazy final play.
  4. I just wonder how much money there would be to spend if we sign Carlos to that long-term extension he wants.
  5. I could see why he wants out, though. New York fans have treated him like crap even though none of the Yankees struggles can be pinned on him. He's become the undeserving scapegoat.
  6. But usually where there's smoke, there's fire, right? I'm just shocked that I can't find a link anywhere, even if it's just speculation.
  7. ESPN and WSCR are both talking today about ARod opting out of his contract after this season. I can't find anything official. Is this confirmed? Both are talking about him maybe signing with the Cubs next year because of his relationship with Lou. I'm trying to find links so bear with me.
  8. The Cubbies are coming, tra la, tra la. Edit: This is Erik being optimistic. Bookmark this post, as it may not happen again for quite a long time.
  9. Yep. I live in a northern suburb and I get it. I'm in southeastern Wisconsin between Madison and Milwaukee and I get WGN. I'm almost positive WTMJ would come in down there. They're both 50,000 watt stations. Yep. You'll get 620, 720, 1310 out of Madtown. Southeastern Wisconsin gives one a pretty good selection on the AM dial for sports. After dark you can even pick up the Indians. I was able to pick up a Reds game on the radio after dark many years ago.
  10. I think he's under contract to WSCR. I don't think they'd let one of their talents moonlight with a competing station.

  12. Seven games is just fine. Baseball should never be played in November. The only time it was ok was in 2001 when the World Series got pushed back a week because of 9-11. Other than that, it should never ever happen.
  13. Well that sucks..The guy says he wnats to stay here his whole like and die as a Cub..and then wont take a hometown discount..How much freakin money do you need Carlos.Geez If he walks, it's on Hendry.
  14. Baseball is more a thinking man's game. Brute strength will only get you so far. Hieght doesn't give you an automatic advantage. There is a finesse to it. You have to make due with the opportunites you have. The best hitters fail to get on base 6 out of 10 times. Plus, you need the most talent to play baseball. Anyone can be trained to run fast. Tackling someone isn't a very impressive skill. If you're agile and tall you can slam dunk. However, it takes a certain kind of skill to hit a 95 mph fastball.
  15. I had to go back to work from lunch after the end of the 8th. Why couldn't I have gone to lunch 20 minutes later?? Grrr.
  16. Haha. No GM would be stupid enough to take that deal!! Oh wait. :(
  17. I'd say go for it. Maybe even for a series so they can hang out with the younger guys. I'm sure those guys have some wicked stories. Sell exclusive jerseys with the names of the players on them and what team they were activated on sold only for the day(s) the players are with the team, with all proceeds going to charity. Each team should have at least one player for at least one game.
  18. Eh, it's alright. wow, TWO A-Rods? He's that good.
  19. If nothing else, I want to build for the future. In all likelihood, the Cubs will be sitting at home in October. Again. A trade for Griffey would accomplish nothing. If the Brewers don't tank, they'll win this division. Nobody else in the NL Central is a good enough team to overcome the Brewers if they just keep playing at this pace. Griffey would be nice if the Brewers are faltering in mid-July and we're within striking distance. Otherwise, don't trade pieces of the future for a player with a long injury history who happens to be at the end of his career.
  20. Gehrigs 2,130 must have been worthless too, then. There were some Yankee road games where he'd bat leadoff, then get pulled for a pinch runner, or he'd play one inning in the field.
  21. But to be fair, he gets results from his garbage vets. Hendry doesn't.
  22. Geez, I didn't even realize the #21 connection. And don't even get me started on the whole retiring the number issue or this thread will get to be 15 pages long.
  23. He's a far more patient man than I am. I'd give them 48 hours, tops.
  24. As am I. It seems very fitting.
