  1. What did he say? I'm stuck watching the Rockies feed. Bob has always hated, Soriano, imo. Continued lack of hustle and constant boneheaded play will do that to someone. Maybe Soriano can call up to the booth and tell Bob to knock it off.
  2. And Major League Baseball will continue to do absolutely nothing about it.
  3. I hate the Cubs. They're like that family member that some people have: You lost all faith in them years ago, you can't count on them for anything, and just when it seems they're going to turn their lives around, they screw up again in an epic fashion. But, you'll always love them and support them no matter what. But you want to kill them on a regular basis.
  4. Hey man, real fans don't boo crappy performances. You know, because it hurts their feelings and stuff.
  5. I've expressly said that I don't want to keep Hendry only for that reason either. I just hope nobody is really thinking getting a Theo Epstein-type as GM is really all that likely. Probably not, but there's a better-than-average chance we get someone better than Hendry.
  6. This is going to be a long, long weekend. We'll be lucky to leave with a split.
  7. I like how you say that like it's crazy. It is. A few good trades does not absolve him from the other absolutely brutal moves he's made. He's hit and miss, imo. I'm willing to give him a pass for the time being for the recent Pac Rim efforts and the 2008 draft. He has had some hits. I don't like the guy, but I'll admit when he's done well. He did a good job getting Aram, Lee, and Harden in here. He's broadened our international scouting efforts, and we had a good draft. But he's handcuffed us with terrible contracts, has made some awful personnel decsions, is completely incapable of admitting when he's wrong, changes organizational philosophies more often than some people change their underwear, brought Dusty in here to wreck Prior and Wood, gave Dusty way too much power in personnel descions, let Dusty run the team for FAR too long when he should have been fired sometime in 2005 or early 2006, and I know I'm forgetting a few things.
  8. Money can mask a lot of flaws. But honestly if you were going to build a team from scratch it would take a few years to get the team you want in order to play your way. How the hell do you ever do that if you change your way every year? I could live with a few rebuilding years if we actually got someone in here who knew what the hell he was doing.

  10. It seemed to me like the whole organization decided that last year wasn't worth it because of 3 games against L.A. Had to change everything up. I wonder what Hendry's asinine philosophy will be this offseason. Let's see, so far we've had... --Guys who can catch the ball --The extreme need for a leadoff hitter no matter the cost -- The need to get more left-handed None of these so-called "team philosophies" have ever lasted more than a season, and are completely forgotten about by the time the next one enters his hollow head. Which is why he needs to go. He doesn't have any real philosophies of his own. How does a guy running a big league team not have a set theory on how to build a team? And yet there are people who honestly think he's not a bottom-5 GM.

  12. Still hurting from last game. Now that Z appears more hurt than the Cubs thought/let on how dumb was it to suggest that Z was going to pitch out of the pen last week? Gee, a Cubs pitcher more hurt than the organization first implied? That's never happened before.
  13. Ok, it's going to be one of those games. I'm going to go enjoy my Friday night by taking my infant son up to the ER with an ear infection. Way to step it up against the WC leader, boys.
  14. Our best 2 RBI guys hitting 1-2, how novel. It shows how desperate Lou is to getting value out of Bradley because at the beginning of the season he would never have considered a lineup where his 2 best lefty hitters are hitting 1-2 in the order and not another lefty until the 7th spot. I don't see it that way. I value RBI's more than most people, but I'm liking the move here. Kouske and Bradley are good OBP guys, and set the table for our big boys. Even though Bradley hasn't hit well this year, he can still take a walk.
  15. The only thing I'd do is drop Fontenot to 8th. Or 9th.
  16. Nope, they have to be on the 25 man roster at midnight the last day of August (or the major league DL) to be eligible. The only other way people can make it on the roster is as part of an exemption for a DL'd player (the Cubs could sneak somebody else onto the playoff roster that doesn't come back up until September as a replacement for the loss of Chad Fox). Isn't that how K-Rod got onto the Angels playoff team back in '02 despite only being a September call-up?
  17. There's got to be a photo of that out there somewhere. That'd be fascinating. I wonder how well an authentic 1973 Tony LaRussa Cubs throwback jersey would go over in Wrigley? If he'd lead us to the Promised Land I can guarantee you it would be a top seller. Right now I just want to win. I dropped my hatred of Jimmy Edmonds last year after he did quite well for us. If I can do that, then anything is possible.
  18. Wrigley's walls are high, and it is pretty long down the lines as well. I believe at one point they had the longest foul lines in the majors. If they aren't still, I'd be surprised. It's odd how much of a "hitters park" Wrigley was when I was a kid. With all the new, smaller stadiums, Wrigley is now neutral or a slight pitcher's park, I'd guess.
  19. Albert Pujols is THE best hitter in baseball right now. Period. Anyone who says otherwise is wrong. It just sucks that he has to be on the Cardinals. If he'd be on any other team he'd be my favorite non-Cub.
  20. It would be nice to take at least the Wild Card lead as a fallback to the division, in case something happens where we just cant catch the Cardinals. We're due for another crazy Cubs/Rockies game.
