  1. Hopefully Lou is the one getting canned This really isn't Lou's fault. Blame the architect of the team. Not even that. A lot of injuries + an bad off season from Soriano. Their is nothing wrong with the architect of the team. We'll have to disagree there. Injuries have hurt us, yes. Soriano hasn't been good this year, either. You're right on those accounts. However, say Soriano is bad again next year. And the year after that. Do you think we'll be able to get rid of him with that ridiculous contract? What about all the moves Hendry made that made our bullpen go from a strength to a weakness? How about Aaron Miles? You really think there's nothing wrong with how this team is put together?
  2. That could happen as well. It just seems like Bob REALLY knows the game and he's NOT affraid to call players out. We'll see but Lou is done and it couldn't be more obvious. Not only does he look defeated, he has know idea what he's doing out there. He might be the worst in game manager in the bigs right now. I don't agree, but these guys need to be kicked in the ass, and hard. Lou used to be the guy to do that. Maybe he's mellowed a bit with age, but someone needs to knock some heads together and either start benching or fining guys for stupid play. Lou isn't that guy anymore.
  3. Hopefully Lou is the one getting canned This really isn't Lou's fault. Blame the architect of the team. They all hold blame, and Lou is the one who immediately started on the whole"get more left handed" thing. The players have definately underperformed, but Lou has underperformed as well in my opinion. But Hendry was the one that ran with it and made the personnel moves. I think an organization needs to have it's manager and it's GM on the same page or the on-field product will suffer. However, there is a limit to it, and Hendry gives his managers way too much say in which players stay and which ones go. Lou should have some say, but not nearly as much as he does.
  4. That baffles me, though. I don't understand how getting back to Wrigley is going to make this team fundamentally sound again. If they can make a pickoff throw without throwing it away at home, they can do it here. If they can field an easy grounder at Wrigley, they can do it in Colorado.
  5. Its 1 series. the wheels arent off yet. They're starting to wobble. We'll really be in trouble if we lay an egg during the Phillies series. They'll probably take 2 of 3 to drag us all in again The Cubs are just a terrible road club. That's the absolute worst part of it, too. They'll get your hopes up, and then rip your heart out. It's one thing if there are no expectations coming into the season, and then they have a lousy year. That's not that bad to take. It's when they have high expectations and play just well enough to think they're going to live up to them, and then crap the bed; or when they have very little in the way of expectations, have a fantastic year, then crap the bed in the playoffs is when it really tears at you.

  7. It's a lesson it took me far too long to learn: Hope for the best, but expect the worst.
  8. Wow, glad I missed this one. Looks like the free fall continues.
  9. Hey, an actual, coherent argument by IMB. I'm impressed!
  10. There ought to be (but won't be) some sort of disciplinary action leveled against that ump by MLB. Too many of them let their egos get in the way of the game.
  11. But is it performing better in a given "clutch" situation, or performing a positive result a certain percentage of the time? If you see it as performing better than his normal numbers, then yes, I agree. However, if you define it the other way, then I don't.
  12. Gosh, there are so many clear, well-thought out arguments in this thread as to why my stance is wrong that it looks like I have no other choice but to concede my point and admit defeat.
  13. Dear Cubs, Apparently you're a Major League baseball team. If this is true, please start playing like one. Thanks
  14. Faitigue due to a teething infant
  15. No he wouldn't. He played this season, the other 2 didn't. And I'm not sure Glavine makes it 1st ballot. 300 wins is no longer automatic for HOF voters? This is so weird.... on the one hand people say what an overrated stat pitcher wins is. However, a lot of those same people will use this as a criteria for HOF induction.
  16. Lou certainly has his faults, but he's one of the better managers out there. He's a friggin baseball Einstein compared to Dusty.
  17. www.urbandictionary.com And then cringe.
  18. My biggest priority is revamping the bullpen. Secondly, replacing Fontenot with a competent 2B. Or, move Riot over to 2nd and find a decent SS on the FA market. Harden hasn't had a great year this year, plus with his injury history, I think he could be signed for something pretty reasonable, with incentives for games started, innings pitched, etc. However, if there is some other team out there just gung-ho to get him and they offer him a huge contract, let him walk. With Z, Lilly, Wells, Demp, we're ok as far as the rotation goes. If Lou doesn't come back, I'd see what Alan Trammell can do. And I'd send Jim Hendry back on the first plane to wherever the hell it is he's from. It doesn't seem like Fox will be at 2B, so I'd have him work on his defense on the corner IF and OF positions, and especially his catching defense, and he'd be a supersub type like Mark Bellhorn was, and he'd get plenty of AB's that way. Failing that, I'd use him as part of a package for a major-league ready 2B or SS.
  19. Nah, I think Jim goes with vampires. They're all the rage right now.
  20. Hey man, we could still win! Really! We still can!!
  21. I'd like to know that, too. I can understand 4 and 3, but not 2 and 4.
  22. I'm calling it now. Ballgame! Thread can be closed now. Right. Because I'm the only one right now calling it. Look at the post immediately below yours. Others have given up today, too.
