  1. Sources tell The Sporting News that MLB is unlikely to overturn Braun's suspension. http://aol.sportingnews.com/mlb/story/2012-01-01/ryan-braun-50-game-suspension-unlikely-positive-drug-test?sct=mlb_t2_a5 There were two ways he could appeal: The first would be to prove the lab made an error, but there are failsafes in place to catch errors, so the likelihood of that is extremely small. The second way he could have appealed would be to prove that the Brewers signed off on whatever it was he took, and the team had no idea he was taking the banned substance.
  2. At least I certainly hope so. I have no issues with shopping Garza around and see if someone will offer an attractive package. But like someone said upthread, if he's not traded he HAS to be extended and built around.
  3. The Lions are actually a respectable football team. I'm pretty sure that's one of the signs of the upcoming apocalypse.
  4. They lost the next week to the Giants, we're eliminated from the playoffs and the Steelers won the Super Bowl? At least that's how it plays out in my head. So even in your head you don't have the Bears winning the Super Bowl last year, huh? Interesting.
  5. Well I guess this bit me in the ass, didn't it? But 13-1 is still pretty damn good. And if they were gonna lay an egg I'd rather it be now than in the playoffs. It seemed an obvious thing to say. Perhaps. But 19-0 was a pipe dream.

  7. Nixon was plenty guilty. As is Paterno. I never once said anything even remotely close to "unfair". I was just saying that Sandusky was the guy actually doing it, yet it seems a lot of people are far more upset with Paterno.
  8. Agreed. I will always refer to him as "Ron Artest." This is the same logic that I apply when I refer to Patriots WR Chad Johnson.
  9. Normally I'm opposed to capital punishment but in the case of people like joe paterno I'm willing to make an exception. What Paterno has done over the entire course of this thing has been pretty awful, I grant you that. However, it seems like a lot of people (not necessarily talking about NSBB) are more mad at Paterno than Sandusky. Yes, Paterno was an awful, horrible piece of crap for not doing anything and allowing it to continue, but Sandusky was the guy actually doing it.
  10. My favorite part is when he says they have a proven "mythology" for doing background checks. How does an idiot who can't speak in public effectively become the GM of an NFL franchise? Well, an idiot who can't speak in public effectively was elected President not that long ago (not talking about Obama, either)
  11. If we don't go big then I want a fire sale. Pretty much. If we went the firesale route and got some exciting young talent in return, I could still have fun following the team even if we only win 65 games. If keep what we have, don't add any big names (MLB or MILB) and only add a few low priced vets...I'll lose a lot of faith in the direction of the front office. I wouldn't be too upset over not adding Darvish. My guess is as good as anyone's as to whether he'll be successful here or not, but I wouldn't want Theo and Co. investing $100+ MM on something that could turn out to be an unknown. At least we know what Fielder is capable of because he's been doing it at this level for several years. We just can't afford a risk like that right now.
  12. Wow, that's actually pretty impressive. I've gone from laughing at his stupidity to grudgingly giving him respect. I'm still going to laugh at his stupidity because the idiot KNEW that the Feds were watching him since at least July and he didn't back off or lay low for a while.
  13. I very much doubt it, but you never know. I just have a feeling once we learn more this story is going to be a bombshell.
  14. I know it's Boras and he always talks up his clients, but I hope he's laughed out of the office of any GM that he asks for "Pujols money."
  15. Federal agents have the names of players in the league he sold to, and the list is in "double digits." http://espn.go.com/chicago/nfl/story/_/id/7355706/chicago-bears-sam-hurd-arrested-drug-charges
  16. 14-0
  17. They're reluctant to give that out now after what happened to SMU.
  18. And yet such a hard decision for the last one.
  19. Hendry would have locked him up for 4 more years.
  20. Pirates better start printing those World Series tickets now.
  21. Thank Tebow.
  22. Not sure if you're serious or not, but I'll answer since nobody else did. Prednisone is an anti-inflammatory steroid that slightly suppresses your immune system and cortisone works in a similar manner and neither jacks up your testosterone level. The crap Braun is accused of taking is an anabolic steroid, which does jack up the testosterone level, either directly by what's taken or by taking a precursor that turns into testosterone. It's funny you mention that because I was just prescribed prednisone today as well and made the PED comment to a buddy.
