  1. Me too. I'm glad David Stark's "worst free agent signing of the year" is going to start the All-Star game :D So we have: Piazza Lee Kent Eck Rolen Edmonds Abreu Beltran Pujols Not bad. The AL lineup is gonna be stacked though.
  2. I've said this in numerous threads. The Rangers aren't trading Mench this year. They will make a deal but not one for one of the core young offensive players of Mench, Blaylock, Tex, Young, or Nix. I see your point, and you're a lot closer to the Rangers media coverage. The hard part of finding the right player is that the Cardinals want him to be a "young" outfielder. Older outfielders are going to be much easier to come by at the deadline. That being said, it wouldn't surprise me if Walt is smoke screening and really going after pitching. Jason Schmidt anyone? WOW- Schmidt would be an excellent pickup for them-bearing in mind his arm doesn't fall off, but a 1-2 of Mulder/Schmidt would be almost as good as Zambrano/Prior  Maybe so-if Walt could get him I say great job. Not that this is going to happen, but it would take Marquis and at least 2 other players that are either AAA or already on the big league team. A starting 5 of: Carpenter Schmidt Mulder Morris Suppan would be pretty sweet on paper. I don't know how healthy Schmidt is, so it could look better than what it would be in reality.

  4. Everytime I hear him on the radio he sounds like he signed with the Cubs with certian agreements on what his role would be, and he hasn't been happy with how things have worked out. He is very much a straight shooter, but he sounds like he's biting his tongue a lot during interviews.
  5. Pods embodies what the Sox are about. He and the pitching staff have been the MVPs of that team. Burnitz has had a nice year btw.
  6. Congrats to the best player of the first half, and the fans that deserve to see him play! One of the classiest players in sports gets his due. I hope we get to see Albert drive him in for the winning run in Detroit after he makes another fantastic stretch at first base.
  7. This makes more sense to me than Wells. Of course, who would not want Wells...., but I like Mench too. When is Edmonds' contract up? He's signed through 2006 (almost positive) I wouldn't mind seeing Sanders back next year, but Larry is definately in his last year, and I view him as nothing more than a playoff bat. Vernon Wells would be awesome, but there are a lot of outfielders out there, and Walt should get one of them in the next month. I think both of our teams are going to improve before August.
  8. Drive my hovercar to the first interspace station I could find and book a trip off planet because the world was finally coming to an end...
  9. I'd like to see a trade for Kevin Mench. We have plenty of pitching to give, and the Rangers are always in need of it. Walt will get something done, and it will probably surprise all of us.
  10. Rolen is up about 300,000 votes or so. I think he's gonna make it.
  11. The Cards don't play anyone tough this year. MLB decided to give them a pass just to tork off the Cubs... (august looks to be the toughest stretch, going into Sept.)
  12. Who? Excactly! Hey Gus, speaking of the draft, I noticed that Darren Brooks didn't make it in. I hope the Bulls take a flyer on him.
  13. Well, LaRussa should've thought about all of that before wanting to go to the World Series  DJAXX, That's the kind of good humored post I like to see! I don't think it's a big deal, but anytime someone is a critic of ESPN it's fine with me. Every morning this week on the way to work I've heard 2 things. NBA draft, and Yankees.
  14. we already played 2 of the 16.
  15. I have tickets for the 22nd and the 23rd! Can't wait!!! Our rough spot in the schedule looks like August. Even though it has changed a bit since SF seems to be not so good. Trying to be objective here. The Cards "should" have a double digit lead by the July series. 12-15 is a good guess. That doesn't mean that the Cubs will lose more ground in the WC chase. I think they will both play pretty good ball up to that point now that they're both getting healthy.
  16. Haha... actually his prediction has been pretty good to this point; Carpenter has pitched very well for most of the year... 9-4 with a 3.17 ERA. We'll see if he can keep it going at the end of this season, because he kind of crapped out toward the end of last year. He's on pace to throw 240 innings this year, which are a whole lot for a guy with a history of arm trouble. Question. If a pitcher (say Maddux) pitches 250 innings, but never goes over 100 pitches in a start, is that still overworking a pitcher? I know that innings and pitchcounts have become an important way of charting a pitchers use. Which is more important?
  17. Yes and Yes. Not 1st ballet, but in.
  18. No mention of Nomar leading at SS I see... This debate is getting silly. Lee deserves to start. Pujols deserves to be a starter also. And you know what... THEY'RE BOTH GOING TO START!!!
  19. If the DH enters the field, the pitcher has to hit for himself. In this case, it would mean removing Pujols from the game. Keep in mind...2 years ago, Bonds was elected to start in the outfield....but he was put at DH and Edmonds started in the OF in his place. So it is very possible that Pujols gets elected to start, but is put at DH and Lee at first instead Yeah, that's not the scenario CCF proposed though. He had TLR switching them during the game. 2 things I didn't know: The DH rule. Thanks for the info Cpat20. That a player can start at a different position than what they were voted in as. If That's the case, there's no question that Lee should start at 1b and Pujols at DH.
  20. Lee has had a fantastic first half so far. But don't be surprised if Pujols passes him up by the break. They're both going to be on the team, so I don't see what the big deal is.
  21. I for one don't really care... Pujols might get the vote, but I would rather have him in the DH spot. Lee is AMAZING around the bag. If Albert gets the vote, it wouldn't surprise me to see Tony flip them by the 2nd inning.
  22. uh.... no. With that much coin coming up with the option there is no way he steps away. I can't see the Cubs trading him either. He is still a good pitcher, but makes too much for what he is at this point. He also doesn't have the best playoff record. just my opinion.
  23. Tony is going to pick Prior and have him go 150 pitches... (joking) Cub All-Stars: Lee Prior Zambrano Lee is the MVP of the league right now. Pujols will still be the starter. This is just one idiot redneck hill william's opinion.
  24. The Astros are probably about average in the league in offense. Carpenter looked sharp last night, but granted he wasn't pitching to the 29 Yankees. Carpenter also finished the season on the DL last year costing him 3-4 starts. he could have been 16-20 game winner. I'm not saying he'll be healthy all year, but i don't forsee much of a drop off.
  25. He's my pick to have the best pitching year from the Cards (as long as he can stay healthy). over mark mulder? Mulder is my pick for the Cy. If he's healthy (every indication he is). He should be a lock for 20 wins. Nobody is a lock for 20 wins. You're right. I'm just a little excited after opening day...
