  1. Hey guys, just remember that it's always darkest just before... yeah, I got nuthin. You folks really are amazing fans. It will get better, because my Dad needs to see at least 1 World Series in his life.
  2. Good idea. I'll start one. Thanks dime!
  3. But what does he have to do with Taguchi, Mabry and Nunez being good this year? None of those guys should be this good off the bench, but they are. The only sorry bench players you've had has been Cedeno and Lankford. Nunez has been a surprise, but he also hasn't been overexposed like a lot of bench guys can get when filling in for injuries etc. Mabry is just a clasic bench guy in my opinion. He has been put in the perfect spot for him to succeed. Once again, he's not an everyday guy, but he is a veteran player that knows how to go about his business. Taguchi has finally become comfortable with the American game IMO. He tried to play outside his skill set the first 3 years he was here, and seems to have figured out his plate approach this year. He's always been a very good fielder. Tony has shown a knack for putting all of his bench guys in the position to succeed, and unlike the Cubs, he has only had to fill in for one major injury.
  4. I think it's Pujols. He is at the center of the offense, and everything seems to feed off of that. I liken it to Jordan and the Bulls. When you have that one dominant player, and a cast of other players that are able to fill in the roles that are a need you have a winning system. (Edmonds = Pippen / Rolen = H Grant). If you took Jordan off those teams, the Bulls were still good, but not great. I feel the same about Pujols. My 2 pennys.
  5. I saw Danica on TV a couple nights ago during the Cards/Diamondbacks game. In the interview she talked about how much of a Card fan she was. Good stuff... :D
  6. Thank you very much. I enjoy posting here a great deal. I wish there were a Cardinals forum as good as this one. Agree 100% And as far as Trades go, if we get Venon Wells, I don't know what I'd do. Walt is going to do something, but as usual we won't see it coming. If we get Wells, Dunn, or Mench I will just totally freak out. I actually couldn't sleep last night because I lay awake thinking about who we might get and getting all excited about it (not in that way). Also, when I go to sleep and think back on the day in baseball I find myself thinking, "I can't believe we actually have Albert Pujols." It's like some kind of prayer in a way. sounds like you may have take in some gunpowder fumes by accident ;) Albert is a nice centerpiece to the lineup isn't he.

  8. They got lucky when they became Cardinals. ;)
  9. but he didn't get the win. isn't that the name of the game, not pitching well but winning? Like I said of all his starts only 4 were against +.500 teams of those 4 games the cards lost 3, he has been pitching well but can he lead his team to a win against good teams? Speaking of only 4 teams above .500, is it me or does that speak to the incredibly weak schedule the cards have had this year? I know I'm a little biased but still correcting for that it seems we're always playing the Braves while the cards are playing ARI, PIT, CIN, TB, COL.... I agree that wins are the bottom line. Giving your team a chance to win is what matters most for a pitcher IMO. I'm sure the statheads will argue with me. Including the Cards, there are only 6 teams in the NL with +.500 records. None of those are in the Central where the Cards play the majority of thier games. It's hard to say that a schedule has been weak for one team and not another after 82 games into the season. There are a hundred ways to examine a schedule. Everything from home and away, interleague (of course), who is hurt when you play them etc. One of my favorites is pointing out that playing a team like the Pirates before the fire sale is a lot tougher than playing them in the last month of the season when they've packed it in.
  10. Len was saying all game yesterday that Corey would be given a couple of days off. And if ya miss Chip, you can always tune into TBS. :P Story about it in the Suntimes about it today.
  11. Willis would be my guess for the NL. Buehrle for the AL?
  12. No, but I'm sure someone will start a thread on a website trying to make something about nothing regarding it.
  13. Mmmmm Baby Blue Shirts....
  14. reminds me of another NL central team... CCF no takes his evil troll hat off... And puts back on his spelling hat, I hope. Zing! Deserved that one, didn't I. ..runs away and hides ;)
  15. Yet all the non-team-dependent statistics say otherwise... :-k Serious question. Factoring out all team dependent stats, who is the best starter in the NL? To me, it's pretty clearly Roger Clemens - only 6-3 due to atrocious run support, but 1.50 ERA, 0.94 WHIP, and about 1 K per inning. He also pitches half his games in an extreme hitters' park. Second is Dontrelle Willis... 12-3, 2.04 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 7 K/9. I'd take Roy Oswalt after that: 10-7, 2.54 ERA, 1.07 WHIP, strikeouts down at just over 6 per 9 innings, but it's hard to argue with that ERA pitching in the Juice Box. Then I'd say Carpenter and then Pedro Martinez, who should actually have a much better ERA than he does considering his absurdly low WHIP. I can respect that. I'll glady accept Carp as the 4th best in the league. It's also sad that the Stros could have 2 of the top 3 pitchers in the league and still be as bad as they are.
  16. The HR Derby has become the Slam Dunk Challenge... yawn... Maybe I'd watch if Jenny Finch was pitching...

  19. NICE! I'm sure there is a Cubbie fan out there that has the probables for that series all figured out. Anyone?
  20. Time to edit the title of the thread. This guy isn't the best starter for the Cards. He's the best starter in the NL.
  21. I really hope we see a matchup with Carp and either Prior or Z in the July 22-24 series. That could be a fantastic game! I'm going on the friday and saturday games with a group of 12 folks from here in Chicago.
  22. I'm not a big fan of Soriano because of the Ks. That, and he's going to want big money for the #s that he puts up at 2nd. As an outfielder he has nice stats, but not good return for the money he's going to ask for. Mench is the guy on that team I like a lot.
  23. Very uncalled for, yes. Just what are you talking about? Unless it's some popular quote, that's definitely out of line. Come on Jon, all the kids are saying it these days!
