  1. Deadspin has listed seven teams who "you should root for" in the playoffs. One notable exception. I love their unabashed hatred of Redneck Nation.
  2. I'm watching Maddon and I'm thinking… Gatorade must be some kind of sponsor or something.
  3. I'd have it reviewed to see if that fan touched it.
  4. Got a kick out of Paul Sullivan's column today. An excerpt: The truth of the matter is it doesn't matter how you approach the Cubs' first playoff game since 2008. The Cubs will not be negatively affected if you're thinking about the ghosts of Chicago past, and they won't play any better if you pray in front of your TV. They'll win if they get some timely hitting off Gerrit Cole and a typical outing from Jake Arrieta. If not, they'll go home. It's just that simple. It'll have nothing to do with you or your deceased relatives who loved the Cubs and never got a chance to see them win. It'll have nothing to do with an alleged curse created by a bar owner to sell cheeseburgers and beer. It will have nothing to do with a magician or a flamingo. For years, this was the guy who couldn't stop himself from writing about curses and how stuff happened because they're "the Cubs" and only stuff like that happens to "the Cubs." I If he could have I'm certain he would have tried to have sex with the phrase "Cubbie occurrence" he loved it so much. He's done a total about-face. About time.

  6. I'm not a big fan of pimping on the road, only because I don't want to see another team's player do it in Wrigley. But if you're at home, have at it.
  7. Why in the hell am I laughing at this?
  8. Soler needs to take the rest of the season off and heal completely. Then he needs to attend dong school over the winter. It's his only hope.
  9. IIRC, they said 375 on the telecast, which would make more sense. The wind was blowing out like what 19 mph? lets be honest. the homer today was great. the energy is amazing with this team. im big on energy, the kind that you cant see but you can feel. but the wind has helped alot lately which was not the case earlier in the season.. if you look at the espn stat again they somehow took wind into account as a factor. it doesn't matter today because the cubs won. that same hit in many parks was a flyout. Ummm….. unless it was just one freakish gust of wind that developed as Bryant's ball went into the air, I believe the wind was also blowing out all day long for the Indians, too. We got a batter who was able to put it up into the wind, they didn't. Though I'm sure several tried.
  10. I think the amount of butthurt here is even more amazing: http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=94236&st=1575 They're on 105 pages about the Cubs… JUST THIS SEASON'S TEAM! The hate/obsession is amazing.
  11. Drinking is fun.
  12. guess he's not really all that in the know, amirite?! Yeah… missed the part about the duration of Montero's stay on the DL, which pretty much makes my point moot. I misinterpreted your first post then, because, no, as long as Montero's on the DL, Schwarber should be the first option at catcher. But I still am curious about the hypothetical situation I outlined, which was wondering how much of a setback Schwarber would suffer if he didn't catch on a regular basis for a month.
  13. Why would you want to do that? Have you seen him hit? I know it's a small sample size, but he's put up video game numbers in the time he's been here. What's Montero's timetable to return? Let's say he's back by the end of the month, which sends Schwarber back to Iowa to catch for a month. Then he likely becomes a September call up and has to compete for playing time with Montero and Ross (ugh!). So I really want to know; how much is not catching for the month of August going to stunt his growth? I'm not asking this in a sarcastic way. I don't know enough about developing catchers and Schwarber's place in that process to know if it's really a bad thing or not.
  14. So how much might Schwarber's development at catcher be stunted if he stayed with the Cubs the rest of the year playing left field and then went back to catching next spring?
  15. The simplicity of reaching to be a 20 win pitcher is appealing to them all. Most of them probably don't care about the difference between a 12 and 14 win season, but that 20 mark has significance to players and they don't want to lose that, along with the career milestone numbers like 250/300. I think a lot of players equate the stat with longevity/durability, which is something they all strive for. If you win 18 or 19 games in a season, chances are you threw a lot of innings and pitchers take pride in that. And if you get to 250 wins, that means you were at least pretty good for a long period of time. This is pretty much the only time wins can be somewhat useful. You can't get 250 wins by getting lucky all the time. Sure, it helps if you're on a team that scores a ton of runs. But that many wins shows an ability by a pitcher to keep his team competitive over a long period of time.
  16. He now has 7 HR and only 11 RBI lol Maybe I was hearing things, but Jim DeShaies was just talking about Coghlan and his home runs. And I could have sworn he said something to the effect of, "and you look up and he has seven dongs." This was followed by five seconds of silence. Anyone else catch this?
  17. It's been a lot of fun wondering what Joe Maddon will do next. But I can't help wondering how much angst we'd feel if Rick Renteria had done similar moves. I justified Bryant in center myself last night thinking with the spacious dimensions of PNC he'd be less likely to run into a wall or a teammate running down a fly ball. But if Renteria had done the same thing, I'd have probably been nervous Bryant would pull a hammy slipping on the wet field. Are we giving Joe too much of the benefit of the doubt?
  18. I think this thread should be renamed "Deep Thoughts by sontensei". It can be his catch all for whatever random thought crosses his mind.
  19. When I saw the title to the thread, my first thought was that the Cubs had sold the naming rights to the Wrigleyville to British Petroleum. It would not have surprised me one bit.
  20. http://mrwgifs.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Saved-By-The-Bells-Mario-Lopez-Thumbs-Up-MRW.gif Why am I laughing at this?
