  1. Another award Jake will barely acknowledge the existence of: http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-cubs-jake-arrieta-wins-player-of-week-20160425-story.html
  2. Pappas threw just one that year. But Burt Hooten turned the trick for the Cubs agains the Phillies in April of that year. Just going off memory. huh? Edited my post. I misread his.
  3. pappas in 72 i believe Pappas threw his in September. Burt Hooten turned the trick against the Phillies in April of that year at Wrigley, too.
  4. Putting this here. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/ct-baseball-expansion-manfred-20160421-story.html Just a question of when. I think Montreal is a lock. It'll be interesting to see where the other team lands and if Tampa Bay & Oakland stay put.
  5. Anyone else haunted by the image of "Pantsless Clark" of Comcast Sports Net fame whenever they see a picture of Clark?
  6. Here's the injury. Hoping it really is just a sprain. Looked like it could have been a lot worse. Edited for spelling.
  7. Don't know if this has been posted yet. The injury.
  8. This is the part I still have trouble grasping, too. I can't believe that my team, the Cubs, has this lineup. What's even cooler is that seven out of the nine guys are going to be here for at least the next three years. Amazing!
  9. I'll bet we hear this a lot this year from Pat & Len around the 7th inning: "Dexter Fowler is now in center field and replaces Jorge Soler in the lineup. Jason Heyward moves over to right."
  10. Almost deserves a thread all its own! http://www.chicagonow.com/cubs-den/2016/02/jason-heyward-takes-bp-video/
  11. This video will never, ever get old.
  12. The article is a couple of days old, but Jeff Passan makes a strong case for making an example out of the Cardinals. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/mlb-must-hammer-st--louis-beyond-its-checkbook-for-hacking-astros-005253782.html Love that the "Cardinal Way" keeps getting thrown back in their faces!
  13. I'll bet they held a gun to his head to make his sign his name to it. Starlin does have a way of being in the wrong place at the wrong time during the offseason. You make an excellent point.
  14. I'll bet they held a gun to his head to make his sign his name to it.
  15. Incredible letter by Starlin. He really did grow up before our eyes. A class act.
  16. i feel kinda bad for them I'm gonna enjoy drinking Thom and Marty Brennaman's tears, [expletive] them They're going to absolutely hate it when GABP is filled to capacity--with Cub fans! It's going to be fun owning ball parks like that.
  17. http://thesportsquotient.com/media/posts/20937/Dusty-Baker.jpg Gotta have that speed, dude.
  18. Wait...Dusty is more charismatic than Maddon? And Maddon is a stiff? Seriously? Seriously. We're blessed to have Maddon, but let's not equate his contrived antics to Dusty's authentic (but calculated) folksy charm. Dusty's too funny to be that stupid. How is Maddon "contrived" and Dusty "calculated?"
  19. Gotta give Baker some credit, he really knows how to fall ass-backwards into some talented teams. He just doesn't know what to do with them.
  20. I am absolutely stunned at how seriously bad the Cubs crapped the bed. They've been totally outplayed this entire series. All four games.
  21. You make it sound as if any of us were remotely productive yesterday. Actually, I was. It made game time come around sooooo much faster. Today I can't get squat done.
  22. Anybody else having their work productivity shot to hell today?
  23. Found this quote rather interesting in a Chicago Tribune article. It's about the home run Lackey gave up to Baez: "If I had that one pitch to go back, I would definitely do something different," Lackey said. "A pitch kind of out on the plate to a hacker, and he ran into it." Interesting because in his post game comments, Baez said he figured Lackey would spot a fastball on the first pitch based on Lackey's hissy fit after giving up the hit to Hammel. The "hacker" schooled you, Johnny!
  24. In the last three games, the Cards scored in seven different innings. Five of those times, the Cubs answered by tying the game or taking the lead in their very next at-bat. The only times they didn't? Last night when they scored two meaningless runs in the top of the ninth and today when they waited an inning before taking the lead. Difference!
