  1. am i being petty for loving the fact aTm lost?
  2. No, it isn't. Softball won the conference just this past year and in 1997. And won the conference tournament in 09 and 97. And men's hoops won the tournament a few years back. That might be it though in the Big 12. Conference tournament wins are not winning the conference. C'mon, dude.
  3. There are only three schools with the option to jump--OU, UT, and MU. OU and UT are, at the very least, paying lip service to staying right now. MU definitely has some leverage right now. Whether or not they truly would jump, they can use the threat of doing so to get more of whatever they want (crystal meth, firecrackers, porn) built into the rehashed Big 12. A lot of the insiders on the boards I go to say many of the wonks at MU want out, so I think it's definitely more than idle bluffing.
  4. Missouri sounded pretty wishy washy in their presser. I'm not sure they're committed to staying.
  5. I doubt Brady Deaton is sitting on a Big 10 invite. The Big 12 is the best place for Mizzou unless they have a B1G invite. The SEC is a great option if the conference is breaking up. But if it survives, I'd take my chances here for the time being.
  6. He was allegedly "spot-on" the first round of realignment. I don't know any specifics.
  7. The infamous Purple Book Cat made this post re: Texas. I find it sort of hard to believe.
  8. Perry Ellis to KU. If we'd have missed on him, I'd have lost a lot of hope. Please get Kaleb Tarwhateverski now.
  9. nothing like popping open a college football realignment thread and reading 70 posts about search engine optimization.
  10. So what do you guys think happened with the PAC-10? It seems like it could be any one (or combination of) several scenarios. Did Larry Scott not have the votes to admit new schools? Did Larry Scott not have the votes to get OSU and TTU in the Pac-10, so their big brothers backed out? Was the LHN to big a hurdle to overcome? Was the whole thing a ploy by OU to effect change in the Big 12 that got a little out of hand? Did Larry Scott/the PAC get tired of having their chain jerked around and withdraw the offer? Did OU and UT get together to work out a deal, then decline the Pac-10. After that, the Pac "declined" to expand?
  11. It's because they're a borderline JUCO that has no fanbase or media markets of note. Their stadium seats 5000 less than the lowest BCS conference team(Cincy). Exactly. Also, if they had to play by most conferences' rules w/ regards to the types of students they admit, they'd have a lot more trouble fielding good teams.
  12. Jack Harry in KC reporting the B1G and Mizzou are talking. Usually, you can ignore anything he says. But a fairly well-connected poster at KU's rivals site says it might be true.
  13. That list is absurd. Missouri blows Texas Tech out of the water, academically. As does KU.
  14. Interesting article though I think it's a touch flawed. The conclusion - that the Big Ten and SEC are in their prime positions due to selectivity in expansion - is bordering on dumb. You take two conferences in the areas of the country where cfb is the most important (outside Texas) and full of several big schools and then you give one a contract with cbs and one it's own tv network. Which conferences will be most stable in an era where colleges have lost their minds chasing cfb $? The ACC and Big 12 are in just as much CFB-dominated areas of the country as the Big Ten and SEC. The Pac-10 expanded with two teams that really don't pull in much market share. They're really only in good shape if they land Texas and Oklahoma. After the Big East got raided for Miami and Virginia Tech, there just isn't much left there for football markets. Why is the ACC adding Pitt and Cuse and in a position to turn away WVU? Bc they made smart additions. Not bc they sat around. The Pac 12 was just looking to get to 12. They also look like the place most likely to add OU and Texas, if they move. How solid will they look then? And no, outside Texas, Big 12 country is not as cfb crazy as Big 10 country. The Big 12 is unstable due in large part to being dominated by 1 school. No school in the big 10 or sec will ever have that much power. I don't think it's that far off. The states of Texas and Oklahoma provided half of the original Big 12, and while they may not have the population numbers, they're very football crazy states. Nebraska is all football. Iowa St. is in a football state. Kansas really isn't a football state. I don't know what colorado is. Missouri either. But in general, the Big 12 was a football crazy footprint. It just doesn't have population numbers.
  15. Yeah, that's the same article that was posted early this morn. Always love Silver's stuff though. Kansas football is actually rated way higher than I expected. Only a few spots behind FSU. Ahead of Okie State and most of the PAC 10. Ahead of BYU, which always gets thrown around for having this massive fanbase. Neck and neck with Syracuse.
  16. It wasn't very sporting of Mayweather, but it was in the rules. I like Ortiz a lot, but you can't be wandering around the ring with your hands down. Just asking to get blitzed.
  17. Another rumor that they're eyeballing Tech. Or maybe they prefer MU to WVU, which makes sense to me. I think that's why TT doesn't like it. I'd blow a homeless man to get into the SEC right now. As long as we're in a real conference, I'll be happy.
  18. Another rumor that they're eyeballing Tech. Or maybe they prefer MU to WVU, which makes sense to me.
  19. I guess that's one way to look at it. I was more concerned that we'll effectively be cut out of the basketball equation, too. Although being shuffled to a nobody conference more or less does that anyway.
  20. So if it does go to superconferences, will the four superconferences cut the NCAA out and run their own basketball tournament? Because right now, there's a ton of money being made in hoops. The schools just don't get nearly as large a percentage because the NCAA uses it to cover their operating costs and other stuff.
  21. You know, throughout all of this, I never REALLY thought KU would get left out of the mix. Sure, we suck at football and there are only 7 working televisions in all of Kansas, but it's a solid academic school with a nationally recognized brand. I felt like there would have to be the perfect storm of events to be left out. Well [expletive] me in the face. The storm has arrived. Unless the SEC or the B1G take us (LOL and LOL'er) we're hosed royally. And it will severely damage the university not only from a sports perspective, but academically, too. It really blows.
  22. they just went for it on 4th and 3, too. I think you can ease off the gas pedal, tech.
  23. I will spot you the KU defense and raise you the Auburn defense. They are terrible, and making Clemson look good. We've given up 600 yards through 3 quarters. 441 yards rushing. 52 points already. Average scoring drive is like 90 seconds. Greg Robinson is watching this defense saying, "Man this defense is bad." ETA: 3 50+ yard scoring drives in UNDER 15 seconds.
  24. Georgia Tech might score 80 today. OU will score 100 on us if they want.
  25. Absolutely embarassing in every way. I had to step away a few times to tend the grill, but I saw only one good defensive play the entire first half, which was the sack by McDougald. Otherwise, just horrible. Which is a shame because the offense is coming along quite nicely. Pretty bad when a 14 point lead is insurmountable because there's no way we'll get stops to catch up. If this defense were only "kinda bad," we might be a 6-7 win team. As it is, I only see 2, maybe three winnable games on the schedule.
