  1. There wouldn't be much question about him being ready by ST if they would've just shut him down and done the surgery insteda of putting him in the pen and pretending they were still in the hunt.
  2. This was supposed to be the KU team we'd see all year. Unfortunately, at looks like it'll make only one cameo appearance this season. At least it was against Mizzou. I'm pretty shocked, to be honest. Mizzou has the better team. For some reason, KU has B. Smith's (and Pinkel's?) number. Rock chalk Jayhawk.
  3. Mizzou fans-- On a scale of 1-10, how concerned are you about actually losing this game today? Because you shouldn't be. I have a feeling it wil be ugly. Nay, FUGLY.
  4.  This thread rocks.
  5. It's not the kiss. it's the fact that neither is wearing any pants at the time. Fortunately, it's just out of frame.
  6. i'm smearing the tines of my pitch fork with feces. look out. A seasoned veteran of angry mobs.
  7. Well, we can't express interest in Giles till we hammer out that Rusch contract.
  8. kessinger--wouldn't howry/eyre be the 8th inning guy? Also, could someone tell me what was wrong with Castillo's leg and the likelhood for full recovery.
  9. You realize that your little dancing banana is what EVERY Sox fan uses over at WhiteSoxInteractive, right? I've been using it for long time, but point taken. maybe I do need one that's a little more appropriate for the occasion. Is there one that shows a corn stalk falling asleep in his still-running car, with a hose snaked from the exhaust pipe through the window and a half-finished handle of cheap vodka spilling onto the passenger seat?
  10. I'm going to take a bath with my toaster.
  11. I'll take Sammy over Vlad and Manny. Probably Alomar over Carew, too. Carew was the better hitter, but I don't remember much about his glove. Actually, now that I think about it, I don't even remember him playing second. Wasn't he a first baseman?
  12. I think you give managers in general too much credit. When the other team is pitching as well as you and hitting your pitchers, there's not much a manager CAN do. And I'm not sure how much blame you can put on Garner RE: Clemens' two inning performance or Oswalt looking like crap. I do agree with indifferent, though, that he could take a few more risks.
  13. ^^^I hate it when alternate realities are so much better than the real one.
  14. I have no feelings either way on karma, but it's a faith thing for the people that do. personally, I don't necessarily need concrete evidence to believe in something; there are many things I can accept on faith. And I don't believe doing so demonstrates a lack of intelligence. Nor do I think requiring concrete evidence in order to believe is indicative of a higher level of thinking. They're just two different philosphies on living.
  15. why do you care what other people believe?
  16. I have statistical evidence that proves all 173 Sox fans are schmucks.
  17. Lionel Ritchie. Was the 24 guy wearing a Cubs hat? I know he has a Cubs coffee mug in the show. if so, he's my new favorite actor.
  18. They've been so hot, though, that I'm worried it's wishful thinking to have them just fold all of the sudden. Maybe they'll have gotten a bit rusty or something. Whatever the case, they'd better lose. Otherwise, I think JR and I will have to form a murder suicide pact.
  19. Let's bring Eric gregg out of retirement and give him exclusive role as plate ump.
  20. If the goal of this is to eliminate the Wild card, I don't see why baseball would do it. The WC is doing exactly what it's supposed to do--extend the playoff chase and keep more teams (and fans) interested in the season up until its end. In StL I'm hearing a lot of grumbling that, with WC teams making the WS (and hopefully winning it) 4 seasons in a row, baseball's going to have to make a change. But does anyone really care about that? Maybe I'm just not enough of a purist, but I'm not bothered by WC teams winning the series. It's not like in most of the other sports where too many WCs get in, and invariably one or two don't deserve to get into the postseason. Most of the WC teams have been reasonably good squads. (That '98 Cubs team probably being an exception). Besides, I'm guessing that, if the system stays the same for an extended period of time, we'll find this little stretch of wild card magic is probably a statistical anomaly.
  21. I'm thinking Dusty gives Jeffrey Hammonds one last shot to prove he's still got it.
  22. Ray King was mean to me once. I work at a gym, and they were hosting a blood drive. Cards players stopped by to say thanks to the donors. When Ray King walked in, I walked past him and said, "Don't get too comfy in 1st place. The Cubbies are gonna get you." At this point in the season, the Cubs were about 412 games out of first. The Asian Bird Flu was the only thing we had any realistic chance of catching. Yet Ray turned to me and glared. Glared. Not too jolly for a fat guy. True story.
  23. It's kind of hard to gloat when you were 25 games out of first by July. Sorry I missed you, indifferent. I ended up meeting some friends at Llewelyns to watch the game. Maybe we can all hook up for the WS, unless you guys are boycotting it. (I didn't watch one inning of the WS in '03).
  24. Edmonds did look overmatched in the LCS. I was surprised how old Walker looked, too. As for the over-reliance on vets, who would you guys have liked to have seen in the game, and at who's expense? Rodriguez over Walker? Something else?
  25. Give me Pujols, too. I understand the argument about relative value at position, but when it comes down to it, I'd rather have Pujols at bat than ARod.
