  1. Haven't read the whole thread, but I will say this. I'm PO'd about the Neifi signing, too. But I don't think the "I like guys who catch the ball" was meant as an insult towards any of the exisitng players. I think it was simply a justification for signing a light bat, good glove guy. Certainly, players who go unsigned or traded (Nomar/Walk) can feel free to be insulted, but I don't think Hendry had any intention other than to lavish a little praise on the player he just inked. Just my 2 cents.
  2. KU should have beaten them last year. We got jobbed by the officials. We also have the 5th best defense in the country, and they have the potential to keep us in games. That said, the opening line was 35 points. I expect KU to keep it closer than that. So do I, but Texas might finally be 100% healthy on offense for the first time in a while. Its going to be interesting to see how they play the 4 head backfield of Vince Young, Selvin Young, Jammal Charles, and Ramonce Taylor. Taylor will probably slot out to WR, but we saw last week why he needs to touch the ball 10+ time a game. Texas wins 38-10 almost my exact prediction. When I said they'll keep it closer than 35, I didn't say how much closer.
  3. Is Koronka starting? Or are we playing it safe with Rusch?
  4. Well, if we're lucky, maybe the sox will be good again so we can use our empty marquee to congratulate them again next Oct.
  5. I think that's pretty good analysis, TheDude, and you might eb on to something. However, I think his plan changes each season. O_O said in a different thread that Hendry seems to want to mold his team after the exisitng world champs, and I agree. Last year, he heard so much about Boston's chemistry that he becmae hell bent on eliminating our chemistry "problems". (The much publicized garbage with Merker, Stone, Sosa, etc. didn't help.) This year he saw the Sox win it with anemic offense and great piching, and I think he feels it would be a shorter road to get a team similar to the '05 Sox than it would to field a team like the '05 cards. So he's building around speed and small ball.
  6. Yeah, but from the box score, it doesn't look like Kirk or Gordon played well offensively. Either of those guys picks it up a notch, and we probably win.
  7. what channel? am i getting it?
  8. Really? Where have you heard those? Not to question you, but because that would be exciting! i was thinking the same thing.
  9. Why? Any CF is just a stop-gap rental for Pie. No reason to think big at the only position out of which the farm is expected to produce an all-star. Because there's no reason to accept a mediocre to bad stopgap when a good stopgap is available. Because Bradley gives us a better chance to win next year. No reason to wait for Pie to come up before we assemble a good team. (For the record, I'm fine with Lofton if that's who we get. But I'd prefer to cough up a couple of guys clogging the 40 man and get Bradley.)
  10. I don't necessarily agree with that. It just makes it way, way harder.
  11. This is the dumbest thiing I've read in a while. Our suckitude had nothing to do with a mediocre offense, a pitching staff in shambles, 3/4 of the season without Nomar, and a moron with a toothpick in his mouth. No, it all came down to the fact no player would police the team. That was the "something" that was missing. That cost us 30 games in the standings. Funny, I don't see where Carrie Muskat claims any of those things you are saying. Don't take things so literally. My point is, finding a guy who can police the clubhouse should be about priority 598 this off-season. However, the article assigns a fair amount of significance to that as a "need." There's no reason to put any emphasis on filling intangible holes when the team is riddled with very real ones that can be addressed. I'm not suggesting it's a top priority, but if you consider two (mostly) equal candidates, let the leader quality have some weight and value in the final decision. Isn't that self-evident? Given two equal candidates, you'll take the one who's a leader over the one who isn't? Are they even equal candidates, then? Besides, I would maintain we have plenty of leadership in the clubhouse. By all accounts, Demp, Wood, Lee, barrett, and Maddog are leaders. not all are necessarily vocal, but they're leaders. And if you want a guy who will tell you what he thinks, see Todd Walker. Unfotunately, that team leadership didn't get us very far. Why? Because the team wasn't very good.

  14. Does Dope have any value anymore? How about Sing? Harvey?

That said, the opening line was 35 points. I expect KU to keep it closer than that. Yeah, I think there was bad PI called or one that should've been called. That 4th and 18 conversion by Vince Young was silly, though. He's unbelievable. I think Texas wins in a rout, but I'm a big Mangino fan. Wish he was still at OU. 37-10 Texas is my guess. Hopefully they'll look past us to A&M, and we can make a game of it.

  17. Look for the Jayhawks to turn this whole operation upside down by beating Texas at Austin this weekend. It could happen!
  18. I suppose you're right. A bit of a pipe-dream.
  19. i'd take sizemore. Me too, but I think Crisp or a bullpen arm is more likely. You? Yeah, I agree. I'd be willing to kick in a decent prospect if it would land us Sizemore, though. Vance--I kind of like your plan. I forgot we'd theoretically have Furcal and thus have no need for a leadoff guy. Assuming he can handle CF, Crisp would be an upgrade over CP. However, does it make more sense to trade Walk for pen help and sign one of the serviceable FA CF (a la Lofton)?
  20. What about Walker for Coco Crisp? Can he play CF? OUt of curiousity, where would you bat him. OBP is a bit low for leadoff.
