  1. The black guy Ty Cobb tried to choke to death. HE DESERVED IT, HE WAS A CHEATER.
  2. Roids wore off. NO! How dare you. The guy who told him how to hit homers, who only the he saw, was named George Baruth (omg, George "Babe" Ruth?!?!) and he left town at the end of the book. That's when he stopped hitting homers. Hahaha, I remember that part. Then he wrote the sequel where Eddie Cicotte of the Black Sox shows up and teaches him how to be a jackass. Oh yeah. "The Boy with the Shattered Knees." That one definitely scared me away from gambling on sports.
  3. Glenn Hubbard
  4. Lots of cheaters in the hall of fame. Spitball throwers, sign stealers...how about Ty Cobb's sharpened spikes? willing to cheat =/= steroid user i know. i just don't want people patting themselves on the backs about being "right" about sammy being innocent Well I feel much safer knowing you're on the case.
  5. or what'smyLD%aftergivingup4runs?
  6. It's more that these guys are pro athletes and likely not master, or even capable, criminals, and based on what this report is showing as to how a lot of these guys got their supplies, it surprises me that any of them would be able to do it seemingly as airtight as Sammy has done, if he was using. If he was, wouldn't he need to keep using whatever throughout the season at various points? I guess maybe he could just stock up in the DR if that was doable and then have enough for the season. It's more common in the other thread than this one. People there are continually "surprised Sammy was smart enough" for a variety of things. I'm guessing it's because he's an ELL. A lot of people assume "stupid" when they hear an accent and broken English, which has never made sense to me. Especially when it's likely Sammy has a better mastery of two languages than the majority of people on this board.
  7. Fukudome would have someone to talk to. In that case why not just sign Akinori Otsuka? He's coming off of an elbow injury as well. I'm pretty sure they'd have better topics to talk about. They did play together for Chunichi for a year. I could totally see Hendry using that as a criterion for signing a guy. "I don't care about his K/9 or WHIP, what the hell would he have to say to Kosuke?"
  8. Operation Shut-Down one of my favorite baseball quotes ever.
  9. I don't understand where the perception comes from that Sammy is stupid. He was a very savvy self-promoter, and he was great at giving the press what they wanted. Eventually his ego screwed that up, but he played the press like a fiddle in 98 and for a few years after that.
  10. Who knew Sammy's tailor posted here?
  11. I'm sure Hosak and Cubbievirus would have come back for free. They probably would have donated all their previous earnings to Cub Care, too, because they didn't earn that money. And if it looked like their career was over after the 2008 season, they probably would have donated both their legs to Ron Santo.
  12. Really? Those were like the first books I ever read. I wore "Soccer Halfback" out from reading it so much. My favorite was Catcher with the Glass Arm
  13. I pretty much agree with every word of this. It's hard to see him go, but who knows if he'll ever pitch again, let alone pitch effectively. nobody knows, which is why you keep him around for a year, so you can find out. didn't take long for the bad teammate spin to start up. Well, at least this time we're doing AFTER trying to trade the guy as opposed to before.
  14. I'd be open to Everett, especially over Theriot. I still haven't totally given up on Cedeno, but I may be the only one. What kind of fight over Everett's services could one expect?
  15. If he's really supposed to back by may, you roll the dice on him one last time, even if he'll accept only a 1 yr deal. Worst case, he doesn't pitch and rehabs on our dime. We've done that with worse players. Best case, he comes back, he pitches great, and we ride him to the post-season. If we lose him after the season, it's still money well-spent. And we'd still have the opportunity to trade him mid-season if things aren't going well for the club. The only thing that doesn't make sense, IMO, is letting him walk away without getting anything.
  16. i don't buy those projections for theriot
  17. "On Fukudome's personality and attitude: He's a competitor too. Kind of a throwback guy. No dyed hair, jewelry, image enhancements. Buzz cut, square jaw, intense eyes. Not that those things make you a good or bad player, but fans will be turned on by his serious approach." http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2007/05/mike_plugh_on_k.html Sadly, there are probably people out there who DO think those things make you a good/bad player.
  18. I might cream Rocket's pants, too.
  19. Was he injured last year? His number were very unBay-like.
  20. I could see this making Arkansas a legit contender down the road.
  21. If the Cubs got Figgins they wouldn't need Roberts Cubs get Figgins Angels get Gallagher, Marshall and Inge Tigers get Hart, Harvey & PTBNL yowza. you'd give up gallagher, marshall, hart, and harvey (who sucks, so whatever) for Figgins?
  22. Yeah, that's Roan. Chip didn't bother me on that call. The one thing he was good at was the exciting call, IMO.
