  1. helluva play by Hunter right there.
  2. the Blackhawks are just the Cubs on skates and with sticks instead of bats. your top three players go down, you're going to have problems. however, for all the offensive woes, the defense is a fricken joke. Aucion or whatever his name is should have the C ripped off his sweater and be sent packing. giving up the puck constantly in his own end. I went to my second game of the season last night and saw another outstanding goal tending performance. Boucher absolutely stood on his head the whole game and deserved better. the disparity in shots doesn't come close to showing how much the RedWings dominated this game.
  3. in part time duty. I have to say that if I hear another tongue in cheek reference to the "overrated Brian Urlacher" I think I might puke.
  4. Why do they do that? I never understood why the refs spend so much time looking like they are trying to fake guys out. Want to make sure no one is anticipating the drop. If you start a little early you're most likely going to win the draw. Yeah, but what's the point? The shenanigans on faceoffs are such a boring waste of time from an otherwise exciting non-stop moving sport. plus, everyone's always anticipating the drop. who gets thrown out of the circle ends up being completely arbitrary. the ref fakes it, both guys fall all over each other, then one guy gets thrown out. if you fail to anticipate the drop, you lose the faceoff, so where does that get anyone? just bring the guys together and drop it. whatever happens happens. I think they should start doing it in hoops to. make those guys start pogo sticking trying to win the tip.
  5. I was there too, and Khabibulin looked great, accept when handling the puck. He should just stop it and skate away. Absolutely terrible. At least three whiffs that made for some scary moments. Unfortunately I arrived a few minutes late and missed Havlat's goal. Sloppy uninspiring game (4 shots total in the second even though they had several power plays). Faceoffs were a problem, until I got vocal about it. Then they came roaring back to tie wins at 15, only to lose the next 8 or so. Of course the refs don't help with their dekes and fakes. Just drop the damn puck. as for the food question above....I would give you an account, but it is completely out of my price range. If I recall from a game I went to last spring, 2 slices of Connie's pizza 1 nachos 1 soda 1 beer $27.50.
  6. I agree with most of what you said, but the faceoffs are not really a separate issue. I saw three power play goals were set up by easily won faceoffs. also, they do have to clear the front of the net, but Boucher shouldn't have lost site of the puck on two of the goals, on the pass that trickled under his stick or the bouncing puck out front.
  7. the problem I have with it is not the strength of the SEC (which I believe is severly overrated), it is the weakness of the Big 12, the ACC, and the Pac 10. at least one if not two of the participants always seems to be whoever wins USC/Cal or Oregon (depending on the year), FSU/Miami, and Oklahoma/Texas, while those teams trounce the also rans in their weak conferences. the thing about the SEC is they are no different than the Big Ten other than perception. year after year, regardless of what the teams actually look like, the SEC heads into the year with 6-7 teams in the top 25, thus 'strength of schedule' is a self fulfilling prophecy. also between those 6-7 teams, they may play 3 or 4 non-conference games against non-patsies, solidifying their those pre-season rankings. year in, year out, the difference between Fl, GA, Auburn, LSU, TN, AK/AL/SC v. OSU, UM, IA, WI, PSU, NW/MSU/PU is minimal, accept in the perception of the people who vote for these teams.
  8. Unless the coaching staff will change their plans this week, Idonije played for Wale against Buffalo. Yeah, you're right. I'm really excited about Anderson though. And now I just saw that he is featured in the top story on Yahoo's football page, about draft steals. As much as we talked about the Bears draft being too defensive oriented, they really did an amazing job so far. I would be happy with every draft from here to eternity if the Bears got a starter (Manning), key contributor (Anderson), and a special teams standout (Hester) in every draft. if I'm not mistaken, there was a rotation between the two last week, Anderson in passing downs, Idonije in running situations. Anderson's sack total is truly amazing considering he's played about 1/5 of the defensive snaps.
  9. savage! during FA years, major leaguers get a boost becaue they are finally served large slices of bread.
  10. there isn't alot of difference because of the depth of the lineup, but Arod is still the best hitter in that lineup. no, it wasn't ronnie cedeno being put fourth. it was a guy who had an OPS that was 100 points fewer than Arod this year though.
  11. It's october and he was 1-11 with 0BB before game 4, 1-14 after. Simple fact of the matter is Arod bats in the middle of the order Joe Torre is stupid, Arod bats at the bottom of the order Joe Torre is stupid. I don't know if you are trying to bring new york baseball politics into this with your statement, but the simple fact of the matter is he's Alex fricken Rodriguez. 1-11. that's one helluva sample size on which to judge. Damon was 0-7 in games 2 and 3. did he get dropped in the lineup? Sheffield, Bernie Williams did nothing. did they get dropped? the notion that Arod's performance was the sole purpose of him being dropped in the lineup is preposterous.
  12. Any man who would bat A-Rod eighth, in any game, for any reason, is invalidated from consideration IMO. Disagree. ARod has sucked in the playoffs recently. With that lineup that they have, I don't see a problem dropping him that low in the order. it cracks me up how much people buy into clutchnicity. I generally agree with you, but nobody is saying anything about clutch. How can anyone bat Arod in the heart of the New York Yankees line up, when he is not hitting at all, "clutch" situations or otherwise, in an elimination game? And 4th and 8th, is there really that much of a difference with that lineup? I wish the some of the Cubs would not hit at all the way Arod did not hit at all the entire month of September. edit - the more I look at this, the more it appears to have been some sort of statement to Arod. Robinson Cano had done nothing in the playoffs, but he was kept ahead of Arod? can't use the rlrlrl excuse because the two of them were sandwiched between two switche hitters. Sheffield was 1 for 8 with a couple of Ks. he didn't get dropped in the lineup.
  13. isn't the main knock on range factor that it is based on plays/outs and therefore doesn't account for Ks and flyball v. groundball pitchers? well the Cubs staff leans groundball over flyball, and once again they lead the league in Ks, thus Murton had far less opportunity to build those RF stats, yet still managed to be top 5. what do the defensive metrics say? I view Murton's defense to be firmly in the catagory of nonconcerns.
  14. Well I'm sure they could fare better than the 01' squad. I hate to use the term "fluke", but alot of things bounced their way in 01. Alot of things. 2001 WAS a fluke. Three consecutive losing seasons after that says it all. This team is the real thing. Seems like the 2001 team came together with a couple of FA veteran signings that luckily panned out. Ted Washington, Keith Traylor, etc. The rest was Rosie Colvin, Brian Urlacher, Mike Brown and an opportunistic secondary. As for the offense...well I have no idea how the offense put up as many points as they did. It was more of an above average defense and then a snowball effect of winning that got them success in 2001. In 2002, they had a shot to go back to the playoffs, but injuries absolutely killed them, as did having to play 8 games at UIUC. They started off 2-0, and then the wheels fell off completely. to answer the bolded part above, they had a veteran offensive line that worked great together. in 2002, I believe the left tackle left for Denver, Villareal or the other guard missed some time, I think Olin battled injury all year, and Big Cat was one year older.
  15. isn't that an Arond-Yankees-Texas situation? I thought the Marlins were paying a big chunk of it.
  16. Blitz heavy? I saw almost no blitzing tonight. they brought out the blitz a few times Mark is right. I just ran through 2-4 quarters on Tivo. looks like about three blitzes. one was when Bernard caught the slant to the one. another was when on the in caught right at the sticks for a first down, another, Rex had all day but eventually threw it away.
  17. I very well may make a time share reservation tomorrow. even if they break my heart, I'm sure to get a pretty penny for it. reminds me of the post game reaction from the playoff game last year, the dude that was complaining about already having bought plane tickets to Seattle a plane ticket to Seattle in an individuals name does have less demand than a two bedroom condo near Miami at Superbowl time however.
  18. I very well may make a time share reservation tomorrow. even if they break my heart, I'm sure to get a pretty penny for it.
  19. Davis? I suggested Daniel Manning earlier. I thought one of his positives when they drafted him was that he could return punts. I want Davis healthy. I like having a dime back returning punts. I heard Manning would already have the job but for his promotion on defense.
  20. demotion time. Hester, Maynard, Jones the worst performers tonight. gotta get used to those winds Devin.
  21. Tillman gets burned a little too much, but damn he can tackle for a CB.
  22. what a find. seems almost every team in every sports needs a player or two to be a big surprise, come out of nowhere to contribute. Robbie has been awesome at a position I worried about coming in to the year.
  23. guys, I think Tommie Harris is going to be an asset to the Chicago Bears football team.
  24. take some bloody punishment and finish a run for once Jones! clock still runs, but he's reminding me more of Neil Anderson every day.
  25. he was poking himself in an area on his arm that indicated it was muscle related.
